Holidays and traditions in Germany: Many European countries celebrate St. Martin's Day each year on November 11th. Germany, too, celebrates the Funeral day of Saint Martin of Tours, who famously cut his cloak in half to share with a beggar who was in danger of freezing to death. Find out how we celebrate St. Martin's Day in Germany while learning German in a fun and easy way. Learning German through storytelling is not only an enjoyable way to learn German, but it will also help you to progress fast and to acquire vocabulary and grammar naturally. Viel Spaß!

Learn German with a natural approach and comprehensible easy German!
In the classroom we are told to endlessly study grammar and memorise concepts, however, research shows that language is acquired through authentic experiences. The concept of Natürlich German is based on Dr. Stephen Krashen's second language acquisition theory, in which one uses comprehensible input to acquire a language, rather than 'learn' it.

Thank you for this helpful video
I already knew the story of St. Martin of Tours already being Catholic, so hearing the German translation very slowly actually helped a lot with my German learning
You deserve more subscribers. They are coming for sure. Thanks for your incredible work.
Danke dır...
Nice tradition and very well described
Alle deine Videos sind sehr cool
Thanks for the very nice explanation ❤
I enjoyed that as it’s something I was unaware of … as always I love your presentation style.
danke schön
Great material. I especially like that you repeat the vocab you expect would be new to us. You are on to something really great. Keep going!
Danke für die Geschichte. I didn't know about St. Martin's Day. Ich liebe deine Videos.
I love learning about German culture. I can watch many such videos per day as I want to understand german culture and psyche in detail. People from my country are known to integrate very well into host societies so I wanna live up to that standard 😇 Do you know of any more resources to know German culture in detail?
I read more about the goose eating part and as expected. it was a French idea to eat birds in this case too 😂Later it spread to other countries like Germany UK etc
Edit: I also saw a Lanternlaufen video and heard lanternleid on youtube. Kids were holding lanterns hanging from a handle made from a wire with sticks in that video . Reminded me of a similar tradition in my country that has is dying down.. but the difference was only female kids used to walk with Diyas (small lamps held on palm) behind an elephant on 14th January. Hundreds of kids just like in Deutschland.
I am a Catholic in Chicago. We take St. Martin's feast day very seriously. We have the goose cake and the pretzels and a big feast after an evening Mass celebration (after Mass we have a public procession on the streets of Chicago with lanterns...while we walk the streets we sing hymns in Latin and English). Right after the feast, we have 40 days of fasting and abstinence (or whatever penance the penitent has decided). We call it St. Martins Lent or the Christmas fast. Thanks for letting me live my own culture in German. It's pretty amazing.
We also have a young man (who's unmarried) dress as a Roman soldier to be our St. Martin during the procession.
Wow! That's pretty cool, thanks for sharing! We have so many cultural pockets in the USA. Hi from Philly!
