    I wanted to backlap the Swardman but apparently you can't.

      The unit I tested at Ware’s House could be backlapped. I don’t think they want you too, but it can be done!

    I've always read and heard that there should be no steel to steel contact between the bed knife and the reel blades, when adjust properly for grass cutting. Seems like your reel, in this video was still making steel to steel contact after you back-lapped. A one thousandth feeler gauge should slide between the reel blade and the bed knife. Do you have an opinion?

      It’s preferred by the manufacturer to have no contact. however, most of the greens mowers available on the used market are 10+ years old and it is hard to get them adjusted perfectly like a new unit. I run with a lite amount of contact between the reel and BK. I find it to work best for me,

    Poppi3579, Valve Grinding Compound will do the same.

    • @apbarry
      @apbarry  Před 6 lety +1

      v8soarer1991 Valve lapping compound is typically a much finer grit like 400-1200 grit, and 3-4 times the price per oz. of product. It’s also much more difficult to remove from your reel and can harm/kill your grass if you don’t remove all the valve compound.
      It’s best to save yourself the time and money to buy the correct product for the job.

    I have a John Deere 260SL. Do you know how to remove the transport wheel axle?

    • @apbarry
      @apbarry  Před rokem

      No, I cut them off mine. If you cut yours, be sure to leave .5 inch of the axel in the event you need to disassemble the drum assembly

    How do Sharpen your lawnmower??

    • @apbarry
      @apbarry  Před 4 lety +1

      Israel Lopez this is one method you can use to sharpen a reel at home. The true best way to sharpen a reel is using an expensive grinding machine.
