Heya everyone, just wanted to say the way i put the harness on Yuki was wrong and i shouldn't have put it on him that way, I know that now and will now let him become more used to it so he will let me put it over his head, i appreciate those who kindly let me know that i shouldnt have held him the way i did, and i will do better next time. Thanks guys.
It's okay! You didn't hurt him, and he will become desensitized to the harness eventually.
Yeah, it's fine. If he's not trying to bite you, it means he's only mildly annoyed by your handling. He'll get used to it.
🥺🥺 he didn't seem too upset and i commend you for taking such good care of him and taking him out
Subbed!!! I was at first horrified when I saw you grab him, but watching further I can see you love him and care. I love that you've seen the issue and not hidden from it. Not many people can admit to mistakes and it takes a good person to do that. He looks such a happy little egg! My GCC Loki is a devil and is a lot more aggressive with my ears haha! The thing with the wings/feathers take a very long time to grow, and the molts are usually once a year for the major feathers like wings and tail :)
I’m wondering what diet you have him on
Seed or pellet diet?
Mines on a pellet diet
When a cockatiel's wings are out in that heart shape like that it means they think of you as their mate and are trying to impress you.
He's probably hormonal.
My bird does that. Then when I slightly move he freaks out and runs away. :v
My birds do that all the time when i whistle to them, then they hit anything on the cage at the rate of Alex The Honking Bird, then they start singing, then they fight because one was gonna sing..
Just your normal bird owner life.
Um oh Kay.......
also, that's called fido
TacoJK yea same here
Wow! That pet store actually has some decent enclosures for their budgies! If only all pet stores do that :(
How long do you have to have your bird before you can take them out?
Breezy89 I’m no expert, but most sources say two days to a week depending on their temperament? I took my cockatiel out of her cage after her first three days, after which she had fully acclimated to the new environment. Make sure to give them lots of treats and praise! And do plenty of research on how to get them more attached to you, mine was my best friend the second she came out of the cage almost, but some birds need more time and training to build up trust. In fact generally do lots of research before you get any pet, and while you’re learning the ropes on how to take care of them. Having a pet means you’re never done researching.
Anyways, sorry if I went on a bit of a tangent. Good luck with your new buddy! By the way, might I recommend the website Cockatiel Cottage? Tons of great advice on there for new bird owners.
@@mahnoor2688 I bought a bird that was already tame and very young I got two budgies 3 years ago and they were 2 months old at that time and since their birth educated by a bird trainer that breeds them so they already knew her and me from a young age. That was the best solution for me so I cant really tell you how to train your bird other than always do something with them but if you still wanna buy a bird that could work for you as well
@@so4_m92 I didn't buy my birds. Someone who lived in the same block as us was moving houses and just left them outside in hope someone would take them and we took them in. However they were treated badly, they had a tiny cage for two budgies, no clean water and minimum of food and barely any toys. The cage wasn't even clean and it was broken in some places. We brought them a new cage, toys and food. 4 months after we took them in one of them died which was really upsetting, her name was Lemon. She was always very quiet and didnt like to interact with me that much unless i was feeding her. Our other budgie, Lime, he is a lot more interactive and I've tamed him inside the cage but not outside the cage. That's what im trying out now. I would love to buy him another budgie friend but with this corona going on i cant.
@@mockingjay1988 Thank you for the advice, my budgie isnt hand tamed outside the cage he just flies away from us but if i go to where he is sitting, he will sit on my hand but he's quite jumpy. He usually doesnt want to come out the cage and once he's out he doesnt want to go back in 😂
He protecc
He attacc
But most importantly:
*He eat harness for a snacc*
Haha
Thank you for blessing my eyes
Harnesses rub against the bird and can cause discomfort and rashes they aren't dogs and aren't that durable. I feel bad for that poor bird.
it’s a good thing that it was only for a few hours. I imagine owners who do have harnesses and take their bird outside don’t do it very often for long amounts of time

Parrots in the cockatoo family do yes lol
yep! Yuki used to hiss when I first got him. they do it when theyre angry/scared of something
Love your profile pic!! Jupiter is so cute
Yep they do when they’re scared or angry
Is that not the first time I’ve ever seen birds for sale in the correct size enclosure with good food and enrichment!
My bird was bought and immediately put in a CARDBOARD box, hes terrified of people. Im assuming hes been poked and prodded by little kids at the shop he was from, sadly i wasn't it was my cousin who bought it for me. They picked of how dark the bird was because i said i wanted a darker bird but didn't consider they happiness and how friendly he was 😥 my other bird was froma breeds and was bred mainly on the ground giving him deformed feet from not being able to stand on a perch. Only the breeding one is used to me, the other one has took advantage of his strong dangerous beak and attacks 24/7 lucky he let me touch his head for the first time 2 days ago.
annas animals I had a similar situation once, they had lied to me abou the age of the baby and said she was on hard food, she was too stressed out and passed away after2 days of adopting her. They shoved her in a box and shipped her across the country. We had paid for her to be in cabin and escorted in a career by a human to out house... turns out the bird was 3 months old.... the way people treat birds like lesser than other pets is horrible.
Plus mirrors aren't even good for birds
My cockatiel is also OBSESSED with my earrings. He always tries to take them out of my ears
@XmenMagnetoAcolytes is it bad for them he always nibbles on my steel necklace and my gold bracelet
Ouch,
Noemi Sburlea same
My budgie sits on my shoulder and i have studs. Whenever hes on my shoulder he bites it and i tickles
My cocktail make me never be put exsesrise like gold or silver because it Will rept out
Bruh birds in your pet stores have such big cool cages. In the pet stores here birds are all crowded in very small cages with almost no toys (maybe one bell/mirror sometimes) and they can't even fly :/
〃Polish Pigeon 〃 omg ikr One time when I went to a pet store to look at the birds I saw at the bottom of the cage that the newspaper was moving then I noticed a bird was stuck underneath the paper (idk how that happened)
the budgies at my pet store can fly around but not as much as the store shown in the video
pet stores are abusive :/
Thank you. This video really helped me. I lost my cockateil of 13 years early today around 9am. He was a beautiful white cockiteail with brown eyes. Im gonna miss that little guy. If you were wondering he died of a heart attack. Hes had heart problems all his life. He died in my hands.
So R. I. P my guy. 🐦
My cockatiel had a heart attack, I gave her a bath and she was fine. Then our neighbour gave us their male so theu could mate "they were in love but then we had to seperate them since he started abusing my angel) but before that, her mate was yelling like crazy and when we checked I saw my cockatiel standing so weirdly like she was bents, heavily breathing so we took her to the vet, gave her oxygen and after like months she died :c (her husband died before her because of the pain of love)
Aww I'm so sorry to hear that 🥺
awh, I’m so sorry you had to go through that. He’s in a better place now, rip 🙏
That bird was like me when I first started wearing bras lol 😆
Lol yeah and I was one of the first in the class (10 years old) so nobody would understand 😅
Awesome to see how well you are taking tare of him. He looks like a real sweet baby. Just to let you know the wing feather was probably growing in and cockatiels sometimes have a knack for breaking their feathers by falling, night frights, general clumsiness etc. so it must have still been a blood feather. Don't worry too much about it, it will probably grow back in a few months at most or quicker if he force molts. You should definitely take him out as much as your schedule can allow to desensitize him to the harness and new surroundings. Also if you introduce him daily to a new person, place or object, this will socialize him better and make him less nervous of new situations, bring the millet along and treat him for not being afraid and he will be a happy, social sweetie that is not fearful or phobic. Awesome job!
Thanks so much for the tips!
Thank you too! I will do that with my cockatiel!
How is this cockatiel ignoring the Millet Spray like that? My Budgies would freak out.
😄
Lol
lol mine does that too, he is a rescue aand im pretty sure he was somewhat manipulated and has some sort of trauma with food because he only eats when no one is around him and is scared of being hand fed, and thats all, he will sleep on me and everything, and i can even grab him and hold him and he likes to cuddle with me in my hoodie
Are budgies a fun and cool pet? I wanna get one soon so I want people’s opinions
@@evii888 u have to get at least two or more
My cockatiel is called Freddie...
He’s started say “hey I’m fred”
He’s a pain... my cockatiel is forming full sentences like “Hey Fred...How you doing today?”
Wow really? Cockatiels don’t really have the vocal capability to form words, does he just make the words’ tones??
Molly the male cockatiels talk
I have a male tiel and he’s characteristically loud asf and mimics tonnes of tunes, but can’t speak. They just don’t have the right vocal shape for it, but budgies etc do
That’s so cute!!! My cockatiel is named Louie and he always says “Hi Louie”, “Pretty bird” and “Watcha doin”
@@mollymishy they can speak extremely broken words, ive seen many. My bird once formed a sentence similar to "i saw a pregnant worm" i dont know its just blabbering or if its a threat ....
Coming from a experienced bird trainer this is a very incorrect way to harness your bird. Please train and desensitise your bird correctly as this isn't teaching people the right way to do this. For anyone reading this if u have a bird and u want to harness train it the harness comes with a video that teaches u how to desensitise your bird. Please do not under any circumstances force or chase your bird to harness them u can harm your bird both mentally and physically. And holding the bird like that stops them from breathing correctly as an example. Please do research and take your time when training.
I agree it was the incorrect way to put the harness on him, i will do more research next time and allow him to get more used to it first
@@sodapets im not trying to be rude with previous comment but it's very stressful and dangerous for the bird u should never have to grab and hold him work on picking up his wings and letting him play with the harness. Goodluck 💙
@@Launiemitchell5175 thank you for the advice i appreciate you being nice about it :)

She makes me wanna get a cockatiel, when I know damn well I have to many cats dogs & other pets to be doing that 😔🤘🏻
Nagito Komaeda i mean I have a dog, cat, cockatiel, and many fish haha
•KocaKolas• yeah, good job on you for getting your dog and cat to not (go after the cockatiel) be dumb
It can be stressful especially for the bird with dogs so you should moist defiantly do your research and maybe when you move out but it is possible to have a bird and dog but it can be stressful for the bird I have dogs and my bird is fine sometimes he talks to them just whistling while there in my room the dogs aren’t at all interested in him so it works out but every dog is different
My bird didnt grow up with scritches so I can’t scritch him :(
Awe!
Just spend more time with him
Mine has a severe distrust for hands, and will only let me scritch with my chin. He'll sit there for an hour just nudging my chin with his neck, then sometimes I can sneak a hand up and scritch with my finger

When the cockatiel hisses it means it’s scared
no, it’s used as a threat when a tiel is intimidated. i own one. ^^
@@lucidcolorss intimidation forms from fear
@@jisookim5787 not necessarily, no. tiels have different personalities, some are more dominant and aggressive than others and can be territorial, for example. it's not always out of fear.
@@lucidcolorss and why do animals guard their territory? out of fear that it'll be taken over. In most domestic situations (especially bird x object or bird x person), it's because it is unfamiliar with the new thing and wants it to go away. Why? because it is scared of it. Why? because it's new. Most aggression in birds stems from fear, especially in smaller birds.
Hannah Kim before you continue making me look like some bad owner, i hope you’re aware that you don’t know my bird like i do. you have zero information on her personality, what she does and does not like, as well as how long i’ve lived with her. your assumptions amuse me. they’re literally two different things, and aren’t always linked to each other. you have no idea what my pet is like, and i really hate how you assume every bird acts the same because they don’t. here’s an example of an animal being intimidated: someone wanders to close to a goose’s nest, and they goose charges and hisses because it feels THREATENED, not afraid. i would suggest doing a little research, there are so many videos out there of this exact situation. there’s absolutely no signs of fear when these geese react, this is plain dominance and aggression. can you stop trying to argue now? i’m quite certain i’m right, and if you disagree, then keep it to yourself please, it’s been a week now and i’m kinda over this argument. ^^
7:42 ooooooh I’m a handsome bird
“He tries to rip my earrings out. Very lovely boi”
I'm so sick of pet stores clipping wings, I was so happy to see the pet store you go to have birds with their wings fully intact.
I want to do the same with my pigeon (she doesn't fly away and stays on my shoulder/arm, anyway she can't fly because of her injury).
But if I take her out, someone could call people who could pick her up and euthanize her (it's a kind of non-domestic pigeon, but we keep her because since she's a baby, she broke her wing when she came out of the nest and it's never going to fix, and since she can't live in the wild, if they catch her, they kill her...)
oh nooo! people would really do that-? that’s not good- but i’m sorry that your baby has a broken wing, i hope it doesn’t hurt her :c
I don’t think they can just take your pet lol
I have an African grey. He is 38 years old and only ever been outside a handful of times. I’ve been thinking of getting a harness for him to see if it will encourage him to come outside more. He also loves and can’t resist the scratching to the head/neck.
I really liked your video great content :)
“no one can’t resist the scratches”

Bird: sees earings
Also bird: oh no human you got somthing stuck in your ear I’ll get it out for You.
I can't wait until I have my own place and can own a cockatiel again. Had my boy for almost 19 years before he passed. I didn't get to bond as a baby as I myself was also a baby and he hated me then. But as I got older even though he hated me and wouldn't let me touch him for years, I always spent time with him talking to him, kissing through the bars of his cage and singing to him. Eventually he let me touch him so I'd take him to my room (dog tried to eat him so he was always in a separate room when out if the cage). Aaah good times. When he discovered what scritches were he NEVER STOPPED.
Yuki is a precious boi
That’s the exact harness I got for my bird too
Omg made me remember when I used to be a Starbucks barista and a young lady pulled up to the drive thru with a cockatiel perched on her shoulder. I soaked a piece of our freeze-dried strawberries in water and gave it to him. Made my day in that miserable job.

I really want a bird and I can get one but I need to do something with it on summer because we're gone and we can't take animals with us. do you know what I should do with it when I'm gone on vacation?
Depending how long your going away, maybe wait till after your vacation, as they need time to bond with you first. Otherwise get a family member or friend you trust to take care of it while your away
@@sodapets thanks for the advice! I'll try to find someone~
My brother looks after my birds when I go on holiday and you definitely need a bond with the bird before hand otherwise you will either loss their bond they have (if it's quite weak) or they will end up bonding with the person looking after them (if it's longer than say a week).

I love your cockatiel!

Love your cockatiel. My family in 1998 looked after a friend's pet cockatiel for a week while that person was on vacation, and watching the small bird interact with my 3 parrots (2 Amazons and an African Grey, videos of which are on my channel) was fascinating, as each larger parrot had a different reaction (nervousness, hostility, and panic), but the cockatiel seemed to admire and get excited by them all, as if he were awestruck upon witnessing such giants roaming the earth.
Beautiful Cockatil.
*wonder woman voice* a baby!!
I remember when my Charlie was that small. Apart from liking the scritches they're very similar in behaviour. He also hates the harness. Evil harness.
So what size did you use on your cockatiel, I found the harness on Amazon, yet I don't know which size to get
The end where he got up in the cam was so cute I love him
Those budgies seem really chill
Never ever get only one! They need partners.
Jens Hofmann you can have one bird you just need to make sure you can provide enough attention for him/her to stay happy. Yes they are better in pairs or flocks but if you are close enough with your bird and he/she can stay happy they’ll do just fine alone.
this is very false🖤
Nope its not false... its alsways better to have a Partner. Even for health. The same is with mirrors to play with.. the Start trying to feed the imaginary Partner and will get sick in allmost every case. Allways remember: they just stay with you all the time and cuddle with you because there is noone else.

Helloooo so early idk what to sayyy

I have 2 tiels, there 2 years old... how should i start with the harness because it's my first time..
I know this is a bit late, but first make sure they can step up, are tame and you ahve practiced target training. Then you can start with having them near the harness and let them know that it is okay. Then take it slowly until they are comfortable. However I'm not an expert, so I reccomend looking up a youtube video too. If there wings are unclipped(hopefully) then you should take a few more precautions. if you read the pinned comment she actually says she made a mistake. so yeah :). Good Luck!

Baby wipes are your friend.
Don't force him to wear it.
If you get a harness NEVER put it on right away and expect your birds to wear it and like it.
You need to get them used to it.
Let them watch it from a while from a bigger distance for a while.
Then you can try to let them get used to it being around them not on them.
You should do it with baby steps and not put it on right away and expect the bird to love it 😅
Idk if you watched the video but this wasnt the first time he wore it lol, he was already a bit used to it but it had been a couple of weeks so he was being very dramatic lol. But he was fine once he was wearing it, if hes uncomfortable he would definitely let me know by screaming and biting
