As a Hungarian I have to say that the team improved a lot. The '16 3-3 with Portugal was a miracle, today there would be more chance to see a result like that, but the squad still lacks real depth. A 2nd or 3rd place group finish is realistic but if anything happens to key players like Kerkez, Orban or (ofc) Szoboszlai the team is going to be in trouble. The largest problem imo is the mentality of the team. Looking at the last two friendlies it really depends on the day how the players do. I would say Hungary is closest to a grayish-dark horse. If the day is given and everyone is in top shape they can win against (maybe even dominate) better teams but on others a goal conceded from Spain/France/etc. could fold them like a piece of paper.

It’s a really difficult team to play against, they just seem to be very consistent on getting results for me
Actually the mentality is what really improved a lot in the past few years. We used to crumble after conceding a goal, but now we have a fighting mentality and a true belief in the team and we want to comeback whenever we concede. Also the quality of our players is a bit better now and we seem to have much better endurance. All this helps to consistenly get a decent result even against top teams now.

@@zac6858 as a turkish we have so many young prospects and good players like çalhanoğlu, arda güler, kenan yıldız and semih kılıçsoy that most of the people doesnt know, he scored 9 goals and 1 assists in 11 matches this season at 18 y.o. and he did get selected for the national team but after 2 days he was downgraded to u21 for no reason, of course it broke his heart and almost all of the turkish fans was angry about it. and while the international break he scored 2 goals in 2 matches in u21 while turkey's national team only scored 1 goal in 2 matches. our federation always does dumb things, im not sad that we lost i hope it was a lesson for the turkish football federation.

People underestimate Croatia like they underestimate Belgium. Apart from two or three world class players attracting worldwide attention, Croatia does not have as many world class players as countries like France, England. It is the players who attract the most attention from around the world who make the competitions more attractive. That's how it's always been so it's a bit logical that we forget about Croatia as long as they don't win. Even Italy is underestimated despite its victory at the last euro for this same reason.
You've never made it past a RO16 in a euros, so I wouldn't say they're "wrong everytime".

So the argument that Croatia or Italy is likely to exit early basically rests on the idea that Albania will finish ahead of them... which, no disrespect to the Albanians, is a frankly astounding belief. Albania are almost tournament neophytes coming up against 3 teams that have so much experience in tournaments. And facing Spain/Italy/Croatia in a tournament setting is a totally different thing from playing perennial underperformers like Poland and the Czech Republic in qualification games.
As a Turk, I’ll always support Turkey in these competitions, but I just don’t see them winning, maybe in the future when our youngsters improve

Having a friend from Finland, we both watch the same ice hockey team here in America, Its a funny dynamic he cares more about Liverpool then Finland internationally but me being from America the club culture here isn't amazingly strong so the national team means more to me than say DC United (my closest MLS Club). I still watch the Prem and other top 5 leagues (lately a lot of Serie A) as a result of following my fellow countrymen but yeah. Sorry for the small paragraph just thought I could relate my personal experience with a friend. Also nice prediction, Dutch are always a good shout!

I think thats the difference between being a piece of the puzzle in a world class side alongside other creative talent like Trent, Salah and Mac Allister whereas for Hungary, he's by far and away their best player and he basically gets to do whatever he wants in a far more free roal than what he has to work with in Liverpools system

I'm Belgian and I agree with you: now that expectations are lower after the golden generation fell apart, I think this will actually help them play more freely, as if the burden falls off your shoulders and you suddenly do better. Our midfield is very talented, but most play in Eredivisie, Bundesliga, Serie A or La Liga. Problem with our midfield is rather that not many of them have links with each other.
But Frenkie de Jong, Reijnders, Koopmeiners, Xavi Simons, etc. are some of the best midfielders in their competitions.
Our attacking positions are lacking though, compared to decades ago. Or even a decade ago.
As a Swiss, I can assure you we finish second and get out in quarter finals

Serbia getting massively overrated here, we've been so shit in qualifying and in the past friendlies, we lost 4-0 to fucking Russia who didn't play an European nation in 2 years and only won 1-0 against Cyprus. Don't be surprised with Serbia ending up bottom. The individual quality is there to go through, but Dragan Stojković (Piksi) is such a shit coach, I just don't see anything happening.

@@dutchvanderlinde8034 it’s more so that Serbia on paper has a really solid team. Tadić, SMS, Mitrović as veterans Vlahović, Samardžić, Pavlović, Petrović as a young core should be very promising. It’s just that Piksi is a terribly average coach, we struggled in a qualification group which should have been a piece of cake, with all due respect to Montenegro, Lithuania and Bulgaria. Once Serbia matches up with real opponents, it can get very ugly for Serbia. Because people only see the team on paper, like Vizeh (no hate, he isn’t the only one. Only one on football yt that seems informed about Serbia is HRVizak) and they aren’t informed about the reality, because there is not much international media attention for the Serbian team, they tend to overrate Serbian squads.
Croatia will have massive support in the stands. It will feel like Zagreb ( maybe better) . That will give them a massive advantage.

I don’t know if I’d fully pick Hungary as my dark horse, but they’ve been very consistent as of late, and get results. I do think with a few good performances they could get further than we might think. Very solid team that can put up a good fight on their day, though I do think they could definitely struggle if they went down vs a team like France, England, Spain, etc.

No, if you're relying on some web site either the website is wrong or you misinterpret it. Knockout ties are planned to ensure teams from the same group can only play each other again in the final (or in the case of the world cup also possibly the 3rd place playoff). The UEFA website clearly says Match 40 1C vs 3D/E/F. So if England win group C they play a team from Group D, E or F. If you get this basic fact wrong it blows your whole video apart.

The difference will be small between second snd third place in most groups, but i miss arguments to support your doubt that the Dutch team will be competetive. They have already performed very decent in the last 2 years (last 4 in Nations League, qualifying for Euro behind France ) with a team that was still young and rebuilding. But especially this last season many young players have had a breakthrough (Simons at Salzburg, Frimpong at Leverkusen, Reijnders at AC Milan, Koopmeiners at Atalanta, Ake at City, Micky van de Ven at Tottenham, Joey Veerman at PSV). Together with the established top players (Virgil van Dijk, Frenkie de Jong, Memphis Depay,) and a very deep pool of talent (Timber, Gakpo, de Ligt, Dumfries, Maatsen, Blind, Malen, Botman,.de Vrij, Weghorst) i dont see any comparison with Austria or Poland in terms of quality. It wouldnt even surprise me if the Dutch will challenge France for first place, as they definetely hsve shown some serious problems in their more recent matches.

To be fair I don’t know how we have gotten these results lately (topping a group with Switzerland in it undefeated!) but we did and it fills me up with weird hope. If we can get these results who s to say we can’t put together a nice run? I mean, Greece 2004 and Portugal 2016 didn’t play very well either and they won the damn thing. Yeah, that is the ranking of our group on paper but you never really know, a draw or even win against Ukraine wouldn’t be a massive upset, maybe even Belgium falls apart like they have been doing at tournaments lately, maybe Slovakia can get a result as they are no slouches either etc. I think international football in general is wild lately. For as much as I have criticised the football played in the qualifiers the one major thing the current team has is that we don’t give up before the final whistle, so many other Romanian teams of the recent past would just give up as soon as they concede a goal or two but this one doesn’t, just look at that 2-2 against Switzerland or yesterday s friendly against Colombia (went from 3-0 down to 3-2 in like 10 minutes or so).
In other news, Hungary getting that far would be insane but they have been really good last Euros so I get the thinking there. Germany is a weird one to predict too, maybe these last few friendlies have shown a resurgence or maybe they will fail once again and you will be slapping yourself for thinking they will reach the final lol. Injuries can have a massive effect too, have to wait until we are closer to the tournament for that. And last but not least, fair play to Georgia even though I don’t think it was as massive an upset as most people think, Greece isn’t exactly France or anything and Georgia has a few standout players, the other qualifiers deserve congratulations too (despite not having a shot on target the whole match, looking at you Poland lol)

I fully agree with the Austria shout although I was born there I just saw them beat Turkey the "dark horse" 6-1 :0.
