    Love your tutorials at 74. I wish I had watched this video back in the summer of 1962. Same with cross stepping and of coarse, tippers. Thanks!

    Can't wait to give drop knees another shot! Very helpful. I always wanted to hear you explain those drop knees where you really push the board out and straighten your back leg.

    Nailed my first decent drop knee cutback today thanks to this vid, thanks again bro you are killing it!
    I was putting back foot too far off the stringer, and trying to put all weight on back foot, but this vid showed the true way of keeping weight mostly forward and ball of back foot on the stringer!

  • @garryhoban4771
    @garryhoban4771 Před 8 měsíci +1

    So am I right that a drop knee turn is a three step procedure:
    1. Angle the board with front foot across the stringer to begin the turn
    2. Step back with toe in the middle of the board
    3. Slowly place weight on the back toe
    Thanks
    3. Slowly

      @BenConsidine  Před 7 měsíci

      hey garry! Yeah absolutely right, that's for the more beginning stages of the drop knee. There's more complexity with advanced drop knees in terms of arm position and tail kick but this here is a great place to start!
      I hope it is able to help your surfing! If you have any further questions at all or wanted more depth/clarity on anything please don't hesitate to message - email is longboardcoaching@outlook.com if you did :)

    this is the second time I watch this video, and the question that rises is this: does it matter what foot is in the back to turn right or left? If I turn left, my backfoot may be the right, correct? From watching you surfing it seems that sometimes your back foot is the right and you turn left... what matters is turning your chest to the direction you want to go?

    for beginners, get a board from local shaper(more expensive) or standard brands(torq/nsp/surftech)? Also should we go for noserider model or all rounders? Thanks a lot!

    • @BenConsidine
      @BenConsidine  Před 2 lety +1

      Great question that I may cover on tip time soon!
      I would say getting a board from a local shaper is always worthwhile as they know the area and conditions where you will be surfing, you can also tell them your level of competence which they can design the surfboard around! Although some of the surftech boards can also be a good place to start.
      I would definitely start with an all rounder model so you can get the benefit of learning how to position and turn the board correctly, as sometimes the noserider models can be super heavy and cumbersome which can make these aspects difficult.
      I hope that helps, please let me know if there's anything else you'd like to see or if I can clarify any further, yeewww!!!

    Hi Ben,
    Does it help to place your back toes to either side of the stringer with the drop knee turn? Specifically, on the side of the board in the direction your turning?
    Some surfers raise their arms up when dropping a knee, like a ref's field goal gesture, is this overdoing the weight transfer? Thanks!
