    I think I have this problem on approximately an octaves worth of notes under middle c that has been driving me crazy on my new 'to me' piano. I am having a technician come next week. I thought it was voicing but after chatting with another technician he said to him it sounded like more a damper. I think he was right. Thank you

    Success! and in a relatively short amount of time, despite "...some other inconsistencies...". Sometimes the 80% solution is 100% the right answer. This is the kind of fix that puts smiles on faces and tips in pockets. Nice job.

    Great video! What if the ringing is on a single bass string (like A#0). Also, how about a tri-chord where the right string isn't muting by the damper?

    Love your videos - I've seen a pair of hammers that are attached to each other in this and a few other videos. How are you using this makeshift tool? for striking keys? It looks quite interesting regardless of its use.

      Yes I used to use that for striking they keys. The more I tune aurally though the less I use that (for obvious reasons, since you need to use two fingers at once to play two notes! :))

    Suddenly my middle C's right most string is not muted by the damper or felt. What can I do to fix it?

    Sorry I accidentally deleted my previous comment when I went to go edit it. I am experiencing the same ringing on the left side of the damper with the b flat note just below middle C. Is there another way to align the damper or maneuver the string like you did without using the tool?

      EC0205 I suppose you could try and use some long needle nose pliers, although it'll be tricky. Damper repairs are often very complex, more so than it may appear in a video. Best to use the intended tool, or hire an RPT to fix it. Happy fixing! www.TheGildedPiano.com

    what cause that buzz sound? did you hear it?

    • @TheGildedPiano
      @TheGildedPiano  Před 4 lety +1

      The buzzing may be poor recording device (my phone)...it was a year and a half ago so I don't actually remember. Good ear though! The point is that the main problem I was fixing was the ringing damper - if the string was indeed buzzing then a 1/2 or full twist of the bass string often does a good job at diminishing or eliminating those noises.

    Fujan tuning levers are becoming ubiquitous. And rightly so!

    Yes, what exactly did you do, you just put something in there and moved it around. I have a ringing and can't get it to stop. I have two that are ringing, if I can figure out how to fix one, the I'm sure I can fix the other.

      I bent the damper wire up near the damper head making sure the damper felt landed on both strings simultaneously. Damper work is tricky so good luck!

    No no no. Inconsistencies when the strings are consistent. This is a cheating solution. :-)

    Please do not touch the bass strings with your fingers! Only wear gloves. The natural fat and water on your skin will bring corosion on the strings which is not good.
