    Hello Simon, long time no speak, hope you’re well ? it’s Dave Digby, I came across this video by chance due to searching ev videos as I’ve owned one since last august which I use now for work, my commute to bidder street is around 100 miles daily, I mainly charge at home on an eco 7 tariff. Your video is great to show it’s not as scary living with an ev as a lot think, after doing 7k miles now I don’t think I’d actually go back to an ice vehicle. I’ll be sure to watch your other videos on this channel for the insight in what goes into the infrastructure behind the ev network. All the best.

      @@simongallagher8661 I’m really good Simon, good to hear from you. I’m with E.on next on their eco 7 tariff, yes mainly on eco 7 for the longer window, if I got in late after a standby I couldn’t get any charge in on the cheaper rate. I have a 77kw battery in my car so the extra length of time on the cheaper rate helps if im planning a long journey to get as much charge as possible. I’ve even ventured down the route of a upgraded 3 phase service to be able to have the 22kw charging speeds.

      It was the same in the UK where the Supercharger network was on the only game in town for a few years - but now with Instavolt, Gridserve, Ionity and others putting in massive infrastructure, it's almost swinging the other way.

One thing puzzled me, were you really at 50% when you plugged in at Stafford or have I missed something? I note that (visually from the drone shot) you swapped chargers with the iPace so maybe you got some charge out of the first one before switching. I would have expected you to be down around 30% not 50% and 145 miles. I'd also be interested to know what the charging curve is like on the Taycan?

Secondly you didn’t mention that the Taycan automatically changes from miles to kilometres when it senses which country it’s in.

    Nice video. Your views are spot on. I have a Tesla M3P and hoping to order a Taycan 4S on salary sacrifice next month. Your 3 mile/kw is seriously impressive given the weight of the Taycan. Some questions, if you don’t mind. Were you in range mode? Did you travel at the speed limit or under on the motorway? What was the outside temperature? Lastly, is charging at the Porsche chargers quite expensive, as I understand that you get charged by time as well as kw provided?

    • @esmartnetworks
      @esmartnetworks  Před rokem +2

      Simon here - thanks for the feedback! Your questions:
      - I never use range mode, I made the conscious decision to never try and 'eek' out range as for me it would take away from the enjoyment, so I always have the heated seats on etc.
      - Traveled basically the speed limit the whole way, traffic was good so spent most of the time on the motorway at 70mph
      - I use my Porsche Charging card at Porsche Charging stations, I just had a look at the invoice - you are right, it is 26p per kWh and 37p per minute (both excluding VAT), which I hadn't realised. Does not change the figures in my video though as that was charging well after I had completed the trip. Average cost for the Porsche chargers was 56p per kWh including VAT and the time element.
      - I don't know what the temperature was, the English leg was a cool day, and it was raining hard by the time I got to Belfast. It was the last week in June, had the seat heaters on the whole way.

      @thebeatonclan Před rokem +1

      @@esmartnetworks Simon, that’s all the more impressive that you drove it normally. My plan is to use IONITY and Porsche chargers, where necessary. Keep more coming if you can.

    I follow the MacMaster CZcams channel, who currently runs a Porsche Taycan on a personal lease. Car cost £120,000 new, and is now one year old and only worth circa £45k. That level of depreciation is terrifying. He's also had some truly horrendous experiences trying to charge on the public chargers around the country, and the car itself has been far from trouble free. To be honest it's put me off EVs completely. I simply couldn't live with the level of stress and anxiety that Lee (the MacMaster) is having to endure with his Taycan. It's good to see the perspective of another Taycan owner, but I'm not sure the journey filmed was as relaxing or as easy as it was being portrayed. For now I'm sticking with internal combustion.

    • @geoffersvoiceofreason2534
      @geoffersvoiceofreason2534 Před 5 měsíci

      Surely you can see that all Muckmaster’s vids are merely clickbait grifting! He deliberately makes poor choices when it comes to chargers. He never sets off with a full battery. He charges his car on the road up to 100%, knowing full well that the last 10 / 15% takes a long time as the charge slows down to protect the battery. In reality he could just charge for 30 / 40 mins and put more than enough range in his motor.
      If he was really having such a pro with that car, Sutherland would get rid. Regards depreciation; in the list of worst depreciatng cars in the U.K (2023] there is only one (1) EV. and that is an old model (Leaf) with quite old technology!

    Your video was slightly misleading in that you just happened to find the ONLY 2 350kW chargers in NI, and, according to ZapMap, they do not exist. I presume that is because they are only available to Taycan drivers and only when the Porsche dealership is open.

      'In real life' there is no penalty - the car is leased, and paid for out of my gross salary. When the car goes back, I have zero to pay, and the pleasure of knowing I only paid about half the cost from my net salary for the car. So the benefits of an EV in terms of tax are very real.
      I think what you are talking about is buying an EV though a limited company, you get 100% capital allowance in the first year. You of course then have to account for the cash you get when you sell it, and lose that capital allowance - but you are still better off that an ICE car as the first year capital allowance is far lower.
