I heard he was 17. I guess it doesn't really matter. He and Paul Weller, who I believe was 17. Such rare Genius. And amerikkka barely knows either. Shame...😢
Roddy is a pure genius. What an amazing recording. Such sound quality and the music is, of course, stunning. Thanks so much for sharing this. His voice has always been wonderful and I've seen him play live many times but I saw him in Birmingham last week and his tone has never been better. Truly right up there as one of the best singer songwriters ever.
Aztec Camera released several of my most favorite albums of that period. There was no escaping the infectious nature of their songs. My god what I would have given to have seen them live in concert.
I never knew about Roddy Frame, I've heard there's been a band called Aztec Camera, now I've found out what a brilliant bunch of talented people they are.
That's right. But actually they changed their line-up almost with every new album. Aztec Camera has always basically been a solo project of Roddy's. Maybe not yet in those early years, but from the late 80s onwards for sure.
Aztec Camera at their best: songs that still sound fresh, relevant...timeless. What a joy! Thanks for sharing this document of a band and an "auteur" at their peak.
I was lucky enough to see them at Bimbos in San Francisco with dear friends around this time. Great venue for them and one of the best concerts no one has ever seen.
How young they look here and sound like veterans, remind me of actual The 1975 young and talented sounding amazing Live!! People, there's still great music and great musicians nowadays!
Walk out to Winter ....la mejor de lejos....
Being a child of the 70's, I had a hard time adjusting to the cultural shift of the 80's-especially the music. I could ignore it all until I hooked up with a much younger girlfriend in 1985 who cut her hair, colored it and had ear-piercings and even a nose ring. Anyway, I had to pretend to like the punk and new wave garbage she was into, but I did like The Police, Talking Heads and especially Aztec Camera, which was the BIG discovery for me! I said one night when she finally got to a couple of Aztec Camera tapes at the bottom of her record and cassette pile, "Why Didn't You Start With THIS? I was hoping we could see them on this side of the Atlantic, but I don't think they ever made it over here. Anyway, great memories from a long time ago now whenever I play these songs now!
Friend, I think there are many of us who were so fortunate to learn, hear and see Great Bands like this from yester year. I saw most of my favorites back in the 80's and am great full because all these great bands will never be in oblivion. Never.❤
This was such a great tour! Loved seeing it. Thanks so much for posting. I forgot he was only 20 during this tour! Have to admit I was very annoyed that the camera never focused on Roddy's guitar solos.
But we have the gig! There were no amerikkkan TV stations or art tv stations providing us with such greatness like other European countries such as Spain, Germany, Italy. And mtv does not Count!
@@qwj68boots There were a couple of shows like Fridays in the US that played live, but it was usually just a few songs, not whole concerts. This is just amazing.
Una carrera tan breve como genial. Recuerdo rebobinar una y otra vez el casette para escuchar "Head is happy" "Just like the USA" "Oblivious" y "High land, hard rain". PD: Paloma Chamorro...you´ll always be there
I miss Ian and those Bunnymen! No other front man was so caustic and rightfully full of himself and that Band. Greatest 4 albums they created with each just getting better and Better.😊😊❤
I love Roddy’s guitar solo on We could Send Letters but it’s nearly drowned out by the keyboard. The solo has a bit of Leila (Clapton, Cream) angst and yearning
@@qwj68boots They were just different, this was the early 80's and I was around the same age as Roddy. I know he also was influenced by the punk scene as a lot of us were, but he just found his own way, like so many other artists in the 80's.
Yeah, groups like The Jam, Prefab Sprout, the Go-Betweens could not really make it here in the US. R.E.M. is an exception but having seen them from Reckoning thru their next 3 or 4 albums, they certainly changed their sound. I'm trying to say that sensitive singer/songwriters of this ilk just didn't really have a real place here in the states. Elvis Costello and the Attractions were an exception. Joe Jackson only had one massive hit album here, Night and Day. The music industry can be summed up in Costello's "Radio Radio". Just some thoughts...
The bass player, Campbell Owens, teaches me bass at college in Glasgow. Legend.
He was a great guy when we went to school in East Kilbride, back in the 70s.
Roddy Frame was 18 when he wrote High Land and Hard Rain and Knife a year later. I always loved his Dreamland album in '93.
I heard he was 17. I guess it doesn't really matter. He and Paul Weller, who I believe was 17. Such rare Genius. And amerikkka barely knows either. Shame...😢
I think he wrote stuff like Just Like Gold when he was 15, recorded with Postcard the following year.
The don't call him The Boy Wonder for nothing!
Incredible musicianship! Roddy's a legend and that backing band is fantastic! Underrated!!

La Edad de Oro is still today one of the best Music TV Show we have had in Spain, greatest bands and spectacular sound .

Also my favourite guitar player forever; and that's my second fave standing to his left!
This should have 10 Million views
It hardly will. That's the way things go, unfortunately.
i come back to this vid at least every month
The band on this tour:
Roddy Frame - guitars, vocals
Campbell Owens - bass guitars
Dave Ruffy - drums
Malcolm Ross - guitars
Eddie Kulak - keyboards
Makes me cry. Amazing quality considering how old this is.
I saw then in Irvine, Ca. that year. They were introduced (opened) by Elvis Costello. A great show.
Aztec Camera released several of my most favorite albums of that period. There was no escaping the infectious nature of their songs. My god what I would have given to have seen them live in concert.
Such a underrated and underappreciated band.

How did this fella not become absolutely massive. Saw them a good few times around Scotland in the 80s.
The best live performance of Aztec Camera
Jump has been one of my favorite cover songs ever for years but I have never seen him do this live. Even better live than on the record!
I remember the thrill of hearing a band that had acoustic guitar at the forefront, when evrything else you heard was keyboard- and synth driven
that's freaking LIVE... such a beautiful voice
Roddy is only 20 years -- feeling blessed to have seen Aztec Camera in the 80s.

This band, Roddy Frame/Aztec camera….still a cool drink of water! 😎✌🏼
Admired this guy and his music for over 30 years now, such a talent!

Incredible live quality, not easy to find nowadays. Thanks for posting this jewel of the 80´s
40 years ago! in 1984, to say 40 years ago was to be in WW2. Mind is blown. Love A.C. and Pale Fountains, too.

Great band, great singer-songwriter!
y sigue sonando tan fresco como entonces, guitarras limpias, buenas letras
Severely underrated band
Aztec Camera. What do you say? Beautiful. I have been in love with their music since I was 17.

Love their version of Jump!
Mejor grupo de los 80. Frescura y ganas de bailar. Pasarlo bien. Esto es lo que nos gusta.

The sound of my 18 yo... Roddy is talented, handsome and humble..
Still love his music.. just makes me a bit sad

If you are referring to this side of the Atlantic, meaning the states, they came to the Ritz in NYC in 1990 to support Stray. Saw them. Great show.

Brilliant..thanks for posting!

Frame was a bit early with his music, this is more like the 90's than 80's. That brain must have been working hard.
I loved a lot of groups from the 1980's and a tad earlier. Please explain if you have time as I'm curious.

Never seen this before. I'm genuinely loving it. Shame the audience look like they died on their feet.
SilentLD yeah, what’s up with that audience? It’s like they don’t know who the band is?
How that guy looks and sound like 90´s band? Ahead of this time.
I agree. Roddy was almost too talented and ahead of the curve to be mega-successful at the time.
