  • The prospect of space travel will feel much different after the Inspiration4 mission-the first orbital mission with an all-civilian crew-launches this fall. Once that happens, the history of human spaceflight will instantly be divided into two eras. There will have been the six decades after the first human circled above the Earth in 1961, when orbital space was mostly a realm solely for nation-states and their hand-picked astronauts. And then there will be the post-2021 era following Inspiration4, when space travel will come definitively within the grasp of private corporations and citizens-an era in which, for the right price, anyone can look down at our blue marble from orbit.

      @hanschristianben505 Před 2 lety +1

      just a bit of FYI...
      sir Jeffrey Kluger is considered one of the leading authors and correspondents for spaceflight related news and history today.
      He’s the lead reporter for one of Time’s documentaries - A Year In Space - from which they covered the One Year Crew of the ISS, AND the Netflix miniseries about Inspiration4...
      and oh, he’s the Co-Author of “A Lost Moon”, the official biographical book of the Apollo 13 mission, from which the mission’s Commander - Capt. Jim Lovell - is the other Co-Author. Their book became the basis for the critically-acclaimed 1995 movie of the Apollo 13 mission.
      And ever since, he has made countless articles and publications about the space program that is backed by information straight from the source itself.
      in short, calling him “ignorant” reflects more on you, not him.
      P.S. just so you know, even though Crew and Cargo Dragon are very similar craft, their flight control systems have significant differences, with the former allowing human intervention (manual control) that can be used at the crew’s discretion, which by the way, is a huge part of the certification process for the spacecraft to be allowed to carry people in the first place.

    • @williamgreene4834
      @williamgreene4834 Před 2 lety +2

      @@hanschristianben505 Their flight control systems are exactly the same ( except for the superdracos ) but they remove the touch screen interface. This is because there are no humans to use them. In fact during the in flight abort test which was a NASA certification flight they didn't put in the touch screens. In fact they use the exact same flight computers on Starship and super heavy booster. The software is of course different.

      A little bit. It's cool, the technology is incredibly impressive. But can't help thinking this is directly killing our planets habitability. So maybe prioritize funds to sorting out that 1st. Not after, because we can still fix these things. But if we keep going we won't be able to and all this awesome technology won't help us at all. It's very impressive and I really want to understand the universe. To do so we need to survive. Not destroy ecosystem, ourselves and the planet. This was a collosal sum of money that was talked about for about 5 minutes. Wasteful and not in touch with reality. Only "average" dude that went up only got like 5 minutes screen time lol.
