- Kerry paid a contractor to lay a smooth stone concrete floor in her front entrance, hall, and powder room but it was smooth in some areas while rough in others. The paint tint was applied unevenly and the wood boards installed to keep the concrete in place are still in the floor. Mike Holmes arrives, demolishes the floor, and gives the home owner brand new granite tile floors.

I don't think I've ever seen this young of an MJ on the show.
True story, my family and I were redoing a kitchen in an old house, and we had to pop the tile one by one, who ever installed it did a fantastic job…..my son was about 6th grade, I come home and he’s got on all the safety equipment I told him to wear, popping that tile, jeans, flannel shirt, eye and ear protection….even gloves…..totally barefoot….i didn’t tell him to wear shoes.
Just like Beverly stated...WOW Mike Jr. looks SOOOO young! It's amazing how time flies. Kids just grow like weeds.
Oh Wow ! M.J. as a youngster.
Yeah Take Your Kid to Work Day usually happens in grade 9 so he would have been 14. He was born in 1990.
@@animeangel1983 The copyright year shows 2004. So, you're correct.
Interesting seeing a much younger Michael, who was just starting to join his father doing construction. He is now in his 30s.
What a trip down memory lane!
It’s scary knowing I watched the transition in real-time…
@larryriendeau To me, it's not really scary, it's a boy becoming a man over the course of probably twenty years or more. He was probably early teens in the clip, and he is now in his mid thirties .Kids grow up and become adults.
Yep.
I've literally watched Mike's kids grow up on his shows!
"I wanna try not to scratch the toilet" - 30 seconds later, HAMMER TIME!
That's editing for you, the whole crew probably took a crack before they went to the fun solution
That granite tile will be slicker than snot when a little water gets on it. It also scratches very easily.
Awwww MJ looks sooooo cute.
Love all the Mike Holmes shows! 😊
Mini Mike Jr.!!!!
The tile work was beautiful. He did a great job. Be kind to each other. Stay safe. Love to all
I NEVER SEEN THIS EPISODE
WELL MIKE JR IS YOUNG
WATCHING JANUARY 5 2024
I HOPE THERE ARE MORE WELL KNOWLEDGE CONTRACTORS
HELPING OTHER PEOPLE
Great show.
Nice program. Thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I am glad she didn't pay the rest she owed on the job.
THESE SHOWS ARE WHAT I REALLY LIKED BECAUSE MIKE EXPLAINING ALOT ABOUT HOW NOT TO SCREW UP A RENOVATION
LATER SHOWS WITH DAMON
YES HE AND THE CONTRACTORS DUE EXPLAIN ALOT
IT IS NOT THE SAME WITH OUT MIKE SR IN DOING THE WIRK
THE DIFFERENCE IN LATER SHOWS WITH THE DIFFERENT CREW IS BIGGER AND THEY TAKE ON BIG TO HUGE HOUSE FIXES
I had to cut the rusty bolts securing my toilet to the floor. One of the scariest things I had to do. I was afraid of chipping, scratching or breaking the toilet. thank GOD I was able to cut the bolts with the sawz-all.
Wow, MJ was soooo young! I still see his personality pretty much the same throughout the years. Looking forward to Sherry in a future episode!
Great jobadd a new subscriber.
Hope that you don't re-use that coffee cup.
There are SO many of these episodes when I think, "DUDE, buy a damned rotary hammer already!"
I replaced my aunt's toilet with the " Help " from her Granddaughters boyfriend. He saw some " residual " passings, asked me if it was " DOOKIE " after I told him yes, he started gagging, puked and damn near passed out. LMAO. He has 3 kids.
I love what you do but there's a problem on one of the corners on the skirting
Done right again..
You cant just willy nilly chose the groute width. You have to consider heat expansions
Hmm. Mike criticized the tripping hazard from the first contractor, but then he installed his own (top of the stairs + at least 1 of the transitions). Not sure why they didn't level and reinforce the joists. Cost?
They need to pull that contractor's license. They need to pull his license out of the countypermits inspections
looks like something you would use in a garage , how would you clean that in the bathroom
Hang some plastic. Get a skill saw and a diamond blade cut 2ft x 2ft squares then use a hammer drill. Pops right up
Wow, what bad previous contractors (if they really were contractors at all). Not pulling up the quarter-round trim? Even I know to pull up ALL the trim and I’m just a little, old grandmother.
❤
Was this your sons first time on a job site?
Ha, should have done something about that squeaky front door.
12:30 is that MJ? Man, he is young here.
Continually calls a quarter round wooden strip a three quarter round, even the client called it correctly
I was wondering about that one.
Wondering what he would call shoe mold I know I misspelled mold
He is probably referring to the size 3/4" - 1/4 round shoe moulding.
"This is what everyone else wants" " I am paying you and we agreed on something else, I don't care what other people like"
this is a Holmes on homes rerelease
1/4 round not 3/4
Hammer drill
This is why you don't make toilets stubborn 8:46
I have the utmost respect for Mike and his crew's ethics about doing the job right. However I have issues with some of the terminologies. Maybe it's a Canadian thing, but why does he keep calling 1/4 round 3/4 round?! It's a 1/4 of a round.
Also, calling asphalt "ashphault" or maybe "ashfault"? (Not in this video, but roofing involved videos)
Pronunciation is probably the difference between an American and a British Pronunciation for those like me from Australia now living in NZ. All my life, I've heard it called Ash Fault. Another example would be the word tube. We say "choob" Americans say "toob" nobody's right, nobody's wrong. Like colour vs color.
the new tiles are just as bad lol
Mjiscute
woes of a bird owner, the parrot will get into whatever it so chooses to get into
No concrete board or Hardi-backer. I’m very disappointed
Not needed.
@@GoatzombieBubba - I disagree. Standard subfloor expands/contracts with humidity. A stable product like Hardi-backer is the ideal underlayment. It also takes tile adhesive better than plywood
so the woman had them work most of it for 500 bucks and then cried they wanted 2k only.. then got mad it was not good enough when good work would be 5k with good tile.. dont go cheap or be cheap
That kind of blind confidence is kind of interesting as an oddity. He'd obviously never installed any kind of floor before, scoffing at even watching a "what is a floor" YT video,,, and charges in with a can-do attitude. Or maybe it's a 'these people are idiots, " attitude
It is NOT a desperate case. There are thousand of people with bigger issues in their houses that put their occupants at risk. They should come first, especially considering the budget this production must have. This woman is more likely a friend of someone running the show. They make a huge fuss out of nothing (ripping the bathroom apart!!). It comes to the point where you think they will have to destroy the house to fix a floor!! They create unnecessary drama for the show to increase their audience rating and make you think they are the saviours of a desperate obviously well off family… Just nonsense. Could not even finish the video.
You’re getting so upset for absolutely nothing 😅, what a saddo.
This is an incredibly old episode - 19 years old this year. This was back when they were still new as a production and Mike Holmes wasn’t a famous/trusted person.
Mike helped 100’s of people over the course of his career, and he’s still doing it…what have you done lately?
@@markdoucette6828 He probably did as I’d never heard of him before so my comment was based on THAT video. Oh, and I’ve done a lot lately to help my community. I just wish I had the backing of a multi million production company, and filmed it with lots of drama, so I’d have more money to help more people.
Bad images ... not very clean, ... Are we really in 2023 and not in 1980 ?
This episode came out in 2004 💀
no cementing down the new toilet?
