Mike Holmes to the Rescue for Kitchen Chaos | Holmes Inspection 102
One issue I question is using gable vents and soffit vents with a ridge vent. It's redundant. Normally, we install rafter vents just beyond the top plate and insulate to the vents to allow proper airflow into the attic space, in conjunction with a vented soffit and a ridge vent system. By adding gable vents to the equation, the air won't draw through the soffits sufficiently. Air is like electricity in that it will take the path of least resistance. Gable vents don't need a ridge vent. I don't like the gable vent system for multiple reasons, but under certain circumstances, you have no choice.
😎
Wake up mike. It was a drug grow house 🏠

These crooked home inspectors will never change until they're liable for the repairs, time in jail and loses their license.
I wish I had your confidence in a deeply broken system.
Vents in bathrooms should be on the wall, not in the floor.
no matter how "equal" we may be, that is no job for a female
THANKS foe what your crew does!
Previous occupant had an office? Or was it a weed operation? Owner said the stink was awful.
Maybe that toy house is a Holmes approved house 13:23
I detest home inspectors. BUT... if I ever move again, I know EXACTLY how to hide EVERYTHING from even a good home inspector! 😉 In the meantime, I know exactly what to look for myself. The house I bought 2 years ago, the inspector missed EVERY important thing, but I didn't. The guy was obviously taking a check from the realtor. But... I caught it and bought the house anyway since the problems were not a deal breaker for ME to do myself. People really should try to learn more about how to keep a house before buying one. If you depend on a contractor to change a light bulb, home-ownership may not be for you. I learned a whole lot from Mike!!! 👍👍
What does the inspector gain by not giving them a proper inspection? Or, these inspectors are ignorant when it comes to what is code, what is proper.
More inspections in a day, more likely to get used by a realtor if they don't find issues, easier report to just write "Good" for everything
Inspectors are not trained or licensed so their knowledge is often from whatever work experience they had. Majority of them don't have expertise in all aspects and only really know generic things. And of course there are some scummy ones that are just in it for the money.
Money - Realtors like inspectors that give a good inspection that makes people buy. The realtor will hire the inspector again and maybe give some monetary support if the house is sold for more than it's worth. Another thing is when they just hurry and don't take the time for a good inspection and a good report they can do more inspections per day. And I don't know if it is still the case, but there were no consequences for a false or bad report at the time the videos were made.
Love this show. Happy to see folk get the help needed. But…🤔electricians cleaning their mess 😂. Kidding aside. Very nice.
Scam unfeed it Vince it should be taken down immediately
This place was a grown wasn't it? How blind was the homeowner? So many easily visible issues.
No, it wasn't a grow op. The cops would have pretty much condemned the house. She wouldn't have been allowed to buy it.
A townhouse will never be a grow op. The neighbors are too close and could easily smell and detect one. Too much risk getting discovered that way. Most likely (as said in show) just a bunch of computer hardware that needed the outlets.
That rescued kitchen seems like a great example of being cheap and losing.
She can't work,is on disability, and she just bought a house. Egad, she'd have trouble buying a tube of toothpaste!
18:33 - I don't think one should hit a hammer with another hammer. I could be wrong, perhaps it's not another hammer, perhaps it's ok.
It's fine as long as you pretend the other hammer is a chisel. Metal strikes metal all the time and unless you got Paul Bunyan swinging one of the hammers in this clip it is perfectly safe.
That is so sad that you are done like that which has messed you up for life glad to see your daughter is living with you 👍🙏✌️💯
Scammer Mike! 😨😨😨
?
@@ge2719 He's probably referring to the recent controversy with the Holmes Approved Homes in Meaford, Ontario that had to be torn down due to building issues.
@@RCLapCar i just read about it. apparently he never guaranteed any of the houses involved, and theres only one thats potentially his liability, that was part of a development where he bought it himself and then sold it, theyre trying to claim his holmes homes guarantee applies to that home because he sold it but he never guaranteed it under that separate business, yet they are trying to sue him. then on top of that the people in the other homes who claim there were issues, didn't properly contact the main company and instead a government funded legal agency paid for fixes so that they could then be able to hold the other company liable and try to sue them. Sounds like some corrupt legal firm if you ask me.
So stupid - his companies did not one piece of work for/in those houses. He gave the developer a credit to develop and took a picture for them. Same like a prominent ice hockey player does adverts for a drink etc. - but I guess you are the guy that say that ice hockey player is guilty and has to pay for the damage when you get hit with the puck he does an advert for and not the person that shot the puck. And it's embarrassing behavior you are posting this shit comment under every video about him helping people years ago..... - looks like you are jealous.
@@seanthiar Shut up dumbas* 😧😧😧
When did Canada start drywalling garages i grew up in ny we never had drywall in our garage and now i live in fl and still nobody drywalls garages
Drywall is required by code anywhere the garage wall has a living space on the other side. This is to give extra fire separation between garage and living space and to help prevent exhaust fumes from entering the home. In this case the garage is surrounded on all sides by living space (except the front of course) so it has to be drywalled.
@@RCLapCar its not required in ny and fl
It is if it's an attached garage. Code (in NY, I just had my garage done)requires the wall between any living space to be dry walled to prevent fumes from getting in, and to serve as additional fire protection. The ceiling also has to be dry walled.
My brunet home inspector missed a ton, rotted flooring, electrical issues, hvac issues. Costed him over $30000. There was no way he should have missed it. But he was referred by the reality place. Go figure.
Were the stained glass windows protected?
First red flag should have been home inspector turned contractor. Usually is the other way around. Contractors become home inspectors.
not real just a scam. you will regret answering their questions. and you will never see any tools
Is it considered OK to hold a 7 years old kid like a baby? Seems like it's maybe 4 when you stop doing this but I could be wrong. My kid is 3 years old so I don't know yet :)
Scary buying a home or renovation when you don't know who to trust. It is hard to find the right people.
they should be called cold water heaters because thats what your heating
Every time I see the plummets working without gloves I just want to yell at them. Risky business thaat.
Hate to say this, but these kids kind of rub me the wrong way. Her wearing heels on a motorcycle, which isn't safe at all, and then this 'house' that they bought. Depending on just where in Canada they are, this 'house' could have cost them anywhere between 800k CAD, and over 1 million CAD. For money like that, they'd have been better off building a new home. I just get the impression that these two had a lot of daddy's or mommy's money to burn. It doesn't help matters that they present themselves both as photographers. The average salary for a photographer is in the 45k (CAD) range for a photographer... so wouldn't make near enough money to be able to afford something like this. Meaning they're either DEEP in debt and likely to lose the home to foreclosure... or they had a crap ton of outside cash and no real viable idea for how to prepare for the future.
Watching this reminds me of Watching Tofu Dreg Buildings in China
Did the home inspector get a cut from seller for the sale of the house?
They never addressed the brick issue underneath the windows…
Never, never, never go with the inspector supplied by your realter. Nine times out of ten they are there for the real-estate company, not you.
so the original "geothermal" system was just some pipes buried a foot below the surface? so it was essentially the opposite, it was a big heat sink that was cooling the pipes that were then trying to be heated by the hot water tank.... wow. whatever company fitted that should probably be sued.
Truly one of God's warriors. What a pleasure to watch these shows. In a world awash with hate, greed, and corruption, people like you let us know that there are good people in this world making and doing things right. Thank you.
Trash, no thank you!
New homes in subdivisions are no better than (or maybe not as good as) manufactured mobile homes.
What does the builder care, the house was sold and he got his money.
Why was Damon walking around the basement barefoot?
The evidence was there all along. If you want to protect yourself from a virus you end up in what looks like a spacesuit connected to a suitcase. Using a mask to stop covid is like trying tostop an atom with a volleyball net. They knew it all along - the goal was mental illness and anxiety. As a bonus it kept us fighting amongst each other.
I haven't watched the whole video but i like the kitchen in the first home but it seemed too dark for me at the same
Dam ive never seen mike pissed like this!!!
Holy crap this woman is nuts. She had me cringe from the first 3 minutes talking about Barbara Streisand and her ugly furniture.
Anyone have updates on Benji and Sean how they are doing. Thanks
Christ. If anything has been proven, home inspections are pointless. Holmes has proven this. Unless you hire someone like Homes. And home mant inspectors are there like Homes. Few. They can't make a living, because the realtors just want to sell a house, and the seller wants someone else to pay for the repairs on the house they want to be rid of. Homes are money pits, made to fail. They refuse to make homes that last, and are efficient, and won't bankrupt the owner. Phooey.
You know it's tiring to watch a program where let someone else got screwed on a house.
when licensed home inspectors miss so much do they lose their licenses
I'm trying to imagine why anyone would buy this hideous mcmansion with so many obvious construction/design defects. They wanted humongous. The hack developer gave them humongous problems. Nothing about this oversized, ramshackle eyesore makes sense. It was obvious from the incongruous assemblies. Have these people never seen a house before? Blaming it on the home inspector is an abdication of common sense.
Wow, she’s really annoying. Probably would never ever try to fix her house.
Called a ear L
These people are full baloney and they don’t deserve any work to be done here
