I was about 15 and at the Night of Champions in NYC with the guy who owned my gym, Charlie, and his girlfriend Cathy, who (literally) had an equal or better body than Rachel Mclish who I've seen her standing next to. We're in the lobby, it was packed with bodybuilders and fans. Mike Christian was running around like a madman wearing a bright orange cutoff Golds gym sweatshirt...he actually did what we call a photo bomb these days, jumping into a pic Charlie was taking of me and Cathy. It was a wild energy filled place, not like the tense uptight shows I've been to a few times in the last 10 or 15 years.
Then this dude walked in. He was tall, well dressed...like a perfect fitting polo shirt and slacks. He was so confident in himself, even in a room filled with bodybuilders he stood out. I remember how wide he was, but he had this ridiculously small waist, probably not 30 inches on a 250 lb body. He looked EXACTLY the way a bodybuilder should look and there wasn't an awkwardness or weird hunchiness to his physique.
    It was John Brown.
He came over to us,introduced himself. I remember what a cool and polite guy he was. He wanted to know if Cathy, Charlie's Girlfriend, was interested in doing mixed pairs posing, which was becoming popular at the time. (In retrospect, I think Charlie discouraged her, because, let's face it...John Brown is hard to compete with).
I've met and trained alongside (and trained with) quite a few pros in the NYC/Long Island/NJ area...Chuck Williams, Jimmy Quinn, Steve Micalich, Chris Dickerson....honestly, John Brown's physique still impresses me the most. Size is one thing, but his physique had perfect shape and flow on a big frame. And if you've ever seen him pose, which I did later that night when he was the NOC guest poser, you know how he's the ABSOLUTE MASTER of that art.
I'm glad to see he's alive and well and looking great 40 years later. He definitely was and is an inspiration to me.

John, was one of the first bodybuilders I followed religiously back in the day, I was watching NFL this past Sunday and they did a short piece on Amon St Brown and he mentioned his father was a professional bodybuilder and they had video of John Brown, so I googled Amon and sure enough there was John. Nice to see his seeds succeed and garner their own success, still looking ready John.

The mean comparatively. They don't know how to train hard- a lot of them. But, a lot of these guys aren't training the newer guys like they once were.

At 6'2' myself, John was a real inspiration at a time where almost all pros were much shorter. He was a revolutionary poser but long before I got to see him live at Night of Champions, I admired his physique from a Muscle Digest article. The posing seems to overshadow any credit to his physique and even here at 7:30 the discussion of his physique started up but Dennis swung it back to posing 30 seconds later. John was X-frame long before Tony Freeman and his potential was perhaps cut short by the constant demand of guest posing and later, the pec tear. Great to see him here.

If I minimise the rests to say 45 seconds, I assume I can't increase the weight and stay at 38kg.
OR should I start with 42 and do say 45 seconds to 1 minute rest and then 8-12 in the first set. And then see if I can do 8-12 reps again and if not, reduce the weight?

Legend but another old guy complaining about how the old times are best. Promote the sport & get with the New Generation & help out. Rather than do nothing, just complain, and talk bad about the current athletes. If not Shut up.

Bodybuilding now is a science experiment to recreate the hulk 🧪 it’s not doing your best with what you’ve got. So to me it takes away from the true beauty of the sport . I do agree with TRT for optimizing but keep it between the lines. Ps: such a great and interesting discussion 😊
