    Quit my job today!
    Felt amazing.
    How? Drop applications and resumes EVERYWHERE you would enjoy working. Plan ahead. If you hate your job (in my case a very rude co-worker who went undisciplined for their rude and disrespectful behavior) then you know you want out. Save your money. No more spending money; no unnecessary trips to the mall, eating out, shoes, video games, ect! SAVE SAVE SAVE! Eventually calls start rolling in. Schedule interviews on your days off. Suit and tie, yes ma'am no ma'am, yes sir no sir. Be prepared for questions like "what do you know about our company", "Why are you interested in working here", "How long do you see yourself being with our company". Once you get an offer it's up to you! In my case I gave the company the same respect they gave me; came in after hours, packed my stuff, and left my key. Bridge burned! Never going back!

    I was at a job where I worked 9 hours a day and had to be there a 4 in the morning. I gave it a month but I had to quit, it wasn't exactly a bad place to work but it was so physically draining. Even trying to get enough sleep I never got used to it.
    If you don't enjoy where you work, just leave. Your paychecks will start to feel like it's not even worth it. Sorry, but I'd rather try and enjoy life.

    • @amythomas409

      I agree with this entirely. I have a degree in Animation and I graduated nearly two years ago and have struggled get a job in that area since. It's been extremely hard and I took up a job in a call centre last September full time and it really isn't for me. I enjoy talking to people over the phone when things are going well but when things go wrong the constant whining and moodiness I get from customers is emotionally draining. My shifts vary each week so I have found it hard to adapt and function having a decent social life outside of it. I live an hour away from my job so I commute by train 2 hours each day there and back and especially during late shifts all I can do when I get home is go to bed :( We all have to work and I could never be the type to sit at home and do nothing but I would rather enjoy my life than hate it :/

    I've been at my job for a year and a half. I am at the point where I fake being sick just to not go. I HATE it and feel so depressed. It's hard for me to smile even on my days off because this place just drains me. My boss micromanages to the point where even if you do everything by the book, he'll give you a lecture over the angle of the tissue box (no lie, I got in trouble for the way the tissue box was angled on the counter, it was horizontal instead of vertical!)

    • @charleshart5563
      @charleshart5563 Před 8 lety

      +ashley johnson Ashley one thing I would recommend would do is talk to your boss and let them know in a professional way how you feel. If they still don't address the issue professionally then I would seek a new position. You only have one life and only so much time for work and life balance. There are plenty of other opportunities just make sure you aren't trading the bad for worse and maybe the best route would be to apply for a role within your current company if applicable.
      All the best and I wish the best to you and your future career.

    I totally disagree that a person is “damaged goods” who chose to leave a job prior to getting a new one. There are so many abusive, toxic workplaces. Each person needs to make decisions based upon his or her individual circumstances. The best advice was don’t waste time or invest time in a place you hate.

    We know it's the wise decision to have a new job lined up before quitting our Job.
    However in reality we need confidence and motivation to apply for new jobs which are often key factors we are drained of when working in a negative/ toxic work environment continuously. When you go home feeling worthless how do you prove to other employers of your worth? It's a catch22 situation.
    At least when you leave a job you can use that time to rehabilitate yourself and get in to a better mindset to apply for new jobs. Having more free time can enable you to work on new self development projects, learn new skills, volunteer and feel more positive for it

    I left my job today (August 3rd). I was under the impression that the "Employment at will" policy on the front of the manual really meant that I could just get up and leave. I go there, tell them I'm leaving and can either go now or work for another week. They tell me to just leave, but this is burning a bridge since I'm not working any additional days as a notice. I felt weird about it, but it had to happen. I just did not enjoy my time there after the first month in and I could not stay there due to better potential out in the job market. It's for the best, but I still feel odd.

    My friend walked out on his job (I have known him a number of years) and my father wrote him a reference for it. He should use job-hunting places which do that for free and where the people are paid a salary to do that and where there are at least a few to give you some they can connect with. My father was not paid to do that on his behalf. I am not certain he should have although he came back to hang around our house and told my father he had walked out. It was a certain amount of trouble for my father and other people to write him a reference for it and it was a job that was hard to find. Walking out on it is fine (he had issues with the way a manager explained something to him). He is a decent enough guy (very intelligent although has a few issues when dealing with certain people/situations he is not familiar with or reasons differently from). I am not mad with him and my father isn't as much as he could be as this guy does useful things for us and we like him in many ways - it related to computers which he is good with although I do not know if that is a way to do it - I would not ask my friends parents to give me a reference then go back to their home and tell them I walked out because of the way something was explained at work?

    Happy this was posted. I'm considering leaving my retail job I've been at for 7 years. I graduate next Spring and I was going to try to work two jobs through the summer, retail and internship, but the retail job bosses are unethical. The main thing I'm battling is leaving a job I've been at so long. Its hard!

    I've been a HVAC technician for 15 years. I was at the same place from '02 -'17 until my boss suddenly died of a massive heart-attack in January. His widow and I ran the place ourselves until June when she decided to sell the files and customer list and retire. She then planned an auction to sell the building, land, trucks, tools, equipment and parts.
    She lined me up with another place that were friends of theirs. I took her in good faith that she knew what they were like and sent me to a good place. Upon my first day, the first hour in fact, I discovered I made a grave mistake. Those so called friends were in fact just acquaintances. I've worked mandatory 10 hour days with only 1/2 hour lunch (no breaks) and mandatory Saturday 5 hour days every single week since I've been there. Then they put you on 24 hour call every single week at least one day....sometimes 3 or 4 or a whole weekend.
    What was 85% residential and 15% commercial at my old job is now 95% heavy commercial and 5% residential. As you can imagine I didn't sign up for any of this. The owner simply pulled a bait and switch, as well as cheating me on overtime on several occasions. I got ripped for a whole 5 hour Saturday once....poof gone! I made up my mind right then and there I was leaving soon. You already lied to me and made me a prisoner, you aren't going to steal from me too. I let it go and didn't mention it to anyone for the time being.
    Then they put me with this 29 year old kid that is a major screw off. He is more busy texting on his phone to his friends than he is working. He disappears when he should be working often. He also calls off all the time forcing me to not only cover him during the days he works (pick up his slack)... but I have to do it when he is gone too. I've grown very tired of this and thought about just walking out several times.
    After being stuck doing hot summer attic work in 120+ degree attics nearly every single day for the last 1 1/2 months I decided this week to pull the plug. I handed in my notice and am leaving for good now. I feel as though my life will come back to me not working for those slave drivers any longer. That boss thinks you have no personal or home life and your sole purpose in life is to work for him. I'm glad it is over in a few more days. Time to move on and get my freedom and life back.

    If you hate the job period and you know you hate it then it's time to leave but if you just hate that one manager or employee then you have to talk to who ever is above them and work something out to fix the problem by switching your schedules or whatever should be necessary.

    I work at a hotel and I only work 1 day a week. They have have been doing this to all employees who work in the retail side. The bosses expect us to sell these passes which are so expensive like $50 is the cheapest ones. Honestly, I don't like selling these things because I don't have the cards I need to open a register and it's like your ripping off families who come in because they paid hundreds of dollars to stay in. The hotel also hired so many people that we should be given those hours.I really want to quit that job, but I don't have a stable job.

  • @realeyesrealisereallies8607

    Word to the wise, I advise just taking a leave of absence if applicable, just incase whatever career/job your planning next doesn't work out, its better to play it safe, especially if you have seniority in that job/company. A check is better than no check, unless you already have another better earning job lined up,

    • @JohnDoeEagle1
      @JohnDoeEagle1 Před 6 lety

      Worse when you work at least six days a week, sometimes seven.... and always get off after everyone else is closed.
      Your only choice is to quit just so you can go look for a job. I can't even get to the Post Office or bank with this damn schedule.
      When you work 7am to 5 - 7:30 pm it's kind of hard to do.
      Also after you spend a whole day busting your ass from 7 am to at least 5 pm with only 1/2 hour lunch you get rewarded by being stuck on call until 11 pm.
      Remember, you have to report to the shop at 7 am in the morning. What if you get called out and don't get done and home until 3 am......
      To hell with this......

  • @howdini
    @howdini  Před 12 lety

    I understand where you are coming from, but I also understand your girlfriends point too. Women really need security and when you talk about quitting it kinda scares them. However, you need support w/ having to "put up" w/ your current job. Maybe you can share that you won't drastically quit your job until something else (better) is lined up.

    My job made me look like a total toothpick.i lost sleep and was too tired and sleepy to eat once i got home.it took it's toll on me. Even on the job i would have to go to the restroom and doze off for a few minutes.my body was worn down dramatically.my hair was a mess.my skin was suffering.i still had no money.i was living paycheck to paycheck.as i looked at my co workers i could tell they weren't going through what i was going through.everything felt so wrong.i was drained.i had no help and i needed it soooooo bad but they watched me break myself down every single night.i was always dreading to go and happy to get off. To top it off i was being talked about really bad.i was being lied on and lied to.if i spoke up it was a problem. I didn't have a voice and i didn't get equal treatment.come to find out they were against me.the person that reccomended me for the job was the main one putting me down to other people.it never got better.it only got worse for me.my last day was January 28,2019. And all the stress from that job has gone away. The dreading has gone away because i know i don't have to go back.

    I m having difficulties on whether or not I should resign my job or not. My boss, the manager, and even the owner of the company really like me as a worker but I dread coming to work each day because I have just grown tired of it. Now, upper-management has decided to increase pay, and also provide me with an opportunity to join them. I don't want to.
    How do I resign without pissing them off? They have done so much for me, but I can't work anymore...

    hi Maggie, I have a couple jobs. At first I liked working at this catering company but then my boss changed her mind and said she is giving all shifts to her employees first. She made me go to a staff meeting and said its intentional we are not getting hours. I wanted to quit after the meeting and didn't. The month has gone by, no hours or emails. Before quitting I sent her an email saying I liked having a job when might I get hours? This was the busiest month and they gave me no hours.

My work history had become pretty spotty sense 2009 few years here and there or a few months. Are you in a position where you can job hunt while you are still employed? That would be the best scenario. You do not know how long it will be before you can replace your income with another job. Also, if you leave abruptly, employers will contact your precious employers and ask questions. So if you leave on bad terms you probably will not get a good referral. You really do not want to burn any bridges. Even though you feel justified, it might come back to haunt you later.

    @TheOneBailey Quitting your job if you put aside all your worries and do it can be liberating. Things may change, but this is only due to what you have grown used to working. When you work, you can pay for many things you didn't have before. Many of these things are non-crucial, only we forget that once we take them for granted. Things like internet, a cell phone, perhaps a car, or at least gas to get you everywhere you could think of going.

    I am usually the common denominator at my job. For some reason I’m always targeted by bullies. Then I shortly realized that I was putting myself in those predicaments because I constantly took on jobs that hired quickly. I am currently working a job where gender, age, and commitment is put before human respect and workplace etiquette. They gossip and are very rude and disrespectful. I find myself in fits of rage and anger constantly. Told myself for a long time that I was ungrateful, then I realized that I’m the 1% who puts their self value and worth before money and material needs.

    @TheOneBailey (part 2) you do what you can. Use what money you have to cover what you need. Cut financial burdens that are perhaps not as crucial. Go out less. Minimize your cost of life. Also, when you are free of work related issues and able to level with your friends and comrades, things have a way of coming together. It's just a natural thing. You have to leave your worries though; you have to throw them aside and not concern yourself with other peoples' burdens. You are your own person.
