Wow! A lot of vintage "roadside America" in this film. I noticed at 1:39 the orange roof of what was the Howard Johnson's just east of the Truman Presidential Library that Harry S Truman himself on occasion would visit for lunch when he was attending his library (judging from the signage, it may no longer had been a HoJos by 1970). Love the shots of the other businesses such as the A&P supermarket, Skelly (34 cents a gallon) and Standard gas stations and even the shot of the passing Santa Fe freight train. It appears the footage beyond Independence, MO was filmed in Kansas. At 2:34 you'll notice along with the Interstate Hwy markers a yellow Kansas sunflower state road sign. Thanks for sharing!

this is the only footage i know of when nickerson farms was still in operation. there is currently 3 other vids of abandoned nickerson farms. there was a 4th one but the creator decided to leave youtube. sadly all that is left from these places is mostly postcards, tokens, coloring books, menus, napkins, place mat, bank some toys and on rare occasions the odd employee of the month award. there was even one guy selling remains to the one in waynseville, mo. luckily theres a ton of pictures and stories of ppl eating at nickerson farms when they were children to relive the the glory days of this once great family roadside restaurant. unfortunately i was born when they closed so i personally never got to enjoy them but for some reason the high hill mo location got me intrigued one day to do research on it to figure out what it was. my father when moving to columbia mo wanted to turn the high hill location into a house. at the time i was maybe like 14 and thought it was an old abandoned hotel. this was like circa 1996. i didnt think anything of it till 2010 and thats when it peeked my interest and got the ball rolling to do a ton of research. map locations of nickerson farms on google earth. collect memorabilia from the restaurant. the most photographed and famous location was the Picacho Peak az one until it collapsed in i think 2015. it was the most preserved original location. thanks for sharing. wish there was pictures or vids of the inside. im trying to find this location for ya :)

Ever been to Fowlerville Farms in Fowlerville, Michigan? It's a former Nickerson Farms location that's still operating as a gas station, convenience store and a very good full service restaurant. It's been in continuous operation since the Nickerson days. When Nickerson Farms went under, they changed their name and kept right on going.

Nickerson Farms was off I-55 in Illinois at the Mt. Olive exit in the early 1980s. I don't know how long it lasted.

The old Nickerson Farms building in Sanger, TX was just approved to be knocked down. It was turned into KT Adult video sometime in the 80's and has sat vacant for at least a decade now. Anyways, some googling led me here, surprising how little information there is online about Nickerson Farms.
