A great song from 1993 - becomes a great new song in 2010. Sting has a great innovative spirit of reinvention. This is a masterpiece and a new favorite of mine - again.
You'll remember me when the west wind moves Upon the fields of barley You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky As we walk in fields of gold So she took her love For to gaze a while Upon the fields of barley In his arms she fell as her hair came down Among the fields of gold Will you stay with me? Will you be my love? Upon the fields of barley We'll forget the sun in his jealous sky As we lie in fields of gold See the west wind move like a lover so Upon the fields of barley Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth Among the fields of gold I never made promises lightly And there have been some that I've broken But I swear in the days still left We'll walk in fields of gold We'll walk in fields of gold Many years have passed since those summer days Among the fields of barley See the children run as the sun goes down Among the fields of gold You'll remember me when the west wind moves Upon the fields of barley You can tell the sun in his jealous sky When we walked in fields of gold When we walked in fields of gold When we walked in fields of gold
Such wonderful instrumentation to a song that we have heard so many times already with conventional, and even evolved musical instruments that are being played in this video. I hope that all see the wonder in this video/musical performance! It would have been so nice to have been there in person!
I think Sting said it was an archlute that he received as a present, which lead to him doing an album with Edin Karamazov since he wanted to learn how to play from a master.
love this beautiful rendition of Fields of Gold. such a lovely song. Beautiful voice and wonderful singing & lute playing by Sting. Heard a Daniel Lanois interview talking about lut playing and thought of Sting and this video came up on youtube. Thank u yt & Sting
Beyond questioning whether it is appropiate or not for Sting to be singing modern songs in such a classical instrument, it is such an incredible feeling to witness his great evolution as a musician, from being a punk bassist up to learn how to play the most beautiful musical instrument ever created by man.
IS this a modern song? I mean really? It has such a feeling of an old folk song. He's even using the repeating lines often found in songs sung by bards.
What the hell kind of stupid question is "whether or not it's appropriate to..." Of course it's appropriate! Only a fascist would try to argue that only certain songs can be performed on certain instruments. 🤢
This song saved me from insanity doing sound for an Eretrean "band". You have no idea of the torture that I endured. Thank you Sting for saving my sanity
Edo fantasticno, Nice work..I miss our great time in New York. Hope i will have chance to see you with Sting in New York but if not here then in Beograd
YAY. & sigh. I've always wanted the STUDIO 60 ON SUNSET STRIP performance intact. This is more outgoing - lhan the wonderfully quiet, introspective performance Sting gave there to match the emotional pitch of the scene it framed, but at least the same acoustic set up.
@BaxorUpGreat You're right! When I was at his concert in Amsterdam 2 weeks ago, before he played this song, STING told that he wrote the song because of the fields of gold he sees when he looks out of his own window.......
@signguy930 Actually, there is a relatively high-quality version of this version of the song. You can find it on The Journey and the Labyrinth DVD, as one of the bonus tracks.
It is a lute, the other player plays an arch lute. An ud is a similar, though non-fretted arabian instrument. Check out the supurb record "Thimar" from Brahem, Holland & Sureman for ud =)
@lollopisemis So did I :) Everywhere I found an information about this composition Sting was written as the only author of both music and lyrics. So Kribaby gave the wrong information. More over had it been written in the 15th century the language of the lyrics would have been more old English but "Fields of Gold" sounds quite modern :) I agree with you.
One of the precursors of "New Age" music, a group named Mannheim Steamroller, took some of the Classics and put a rock n roll beat to them. So not ALL New Age music is vapid.
does anyone know how I can download this particular version o the music - not especially interested in the video but love the lute and this version. Thanks
I think it's just a mesmeric performance. This probably isn't that interesting to read, and I don't know alot about Sting and The Police, but fuck this is just a brilliant thing. Thanks for posting!
@kribaby76 - Mmmmm, No, this is written by Sting! No 15th century bard there... And why "still" it brings a tear to your eye - are you born in the 15th century or what? *just kidding*
@Cuddlemocha Of course you can't compare two songs but you can compare the process of their making and the artist. I'd say that there is a significant difference between the popular artists of today and those of the 70s, 80s and 90s. I don't think that Sting, Eric Clapton etc. would be as popular if they had to start in todays world of music. Look at Lady Gaga. She's probably a great talent but her music is made for maximum profit.
@kribaby76 Are you sure this song wasn't written by Sting? Is it true that it was written by someone other? I can't belive that :) How would you proove that?
Rap and hip-hop can't move you, perhaps. But for a lot of people, it's everything - it's life. Not disagreeing with your earlier comments, you're certainly right that music just isn't the same now; but rap & hip hop shouldn't be ignored, it is incredibly important sociologically and musically.
@Cuddlemocha I think you are wrong about that. An artist has only limited influence on the way he becomes popular and those who are alone or are casted to become a band are heavily influenced from the people in the music industry. I think that the way Amy Winehouse went was bad rather than good and had she had people around her who actually cared about her personality and health she would still be alive. Not meaning that these things never happened in the past but I think its worse today.
it can move you. It's just that the really good stuff is just as rare as the really good stuff used to be. f'ex. Eminem's Kim, if you make yourself look past the graphic violence and pay attention to the motivation laid out in the lyrics and performance, is heartrendingly painful.
I feel like this is how this song was supposed to be performed.
This song sounds the best that it's ever sounded with lute. Thank you for sharing this.
You knock my socks off!
+Vašek K. "What's it like telling a rock legend what to play and having him play it?"
"I didn't tell him, I asked him. I like this song...it reminds me of something..."
Jedna od mojih omiljenih Stingovih pjesama, Edo nadam se da ce te vjetar nanijeti i u NY uskoro. Pozdrav za tebe i ostalu Karamazov bracu.
A great song from 1993 - becomes a great new song in 2010. Sting has a great innovative spirit of reinvention. This is a masterpiece and a new favorite of mine - again.
No sintethizers, no back-up, singers, no dancers doing a choreography... and this piece is just musical ambrosia. This performance is just superb.
Musical ambrosia-beautifully and eloquently put
This album is all so beautiful ❤
Best version of that song I've ever heard!
A much more emotional story on the lutes.
I almost grew fur on the top of my damn feet!!
2024. Svedena umetnička izvedba...glas, instr.
Predivno
Best live of fields of gold ever
Studio 60! A Great show that only if it had a chance
You'll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we walk in fields of gold
So she took her love
For to gaze a while
Upon the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down
Among the fields of gold
Will you stay with me?
Will you be my love?
Upon the fields of barley
We'll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we lie in fields of gold
See the west wind move like a lover so
Upon the fields of barley
Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth
Among the fields of gold
I never made promises lightly
And there have been some that I've broken
But I swear in the days still left
We'll walk in fields of gold
We'll walk in fields of gold
Many years have passed since those summer days
Among the fields of barley
See the children run as the sun goes down
Among the fields of gold
You'll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold
When we walked in fields of gold
When we walked in fields of gold

This is so beautiful.
I attended few Edins masterclasses, and played on the guitar few pieces. He's such a great teacher and cool guy.

Sting, one of the best artist living on the planet
Just divine!
Ovo je prelijepa muzika ... samo covjek da se opusti i uziva!

Edin Karamazov rocks!
Pure masterpiece
definitely the best version of a song
Phenomenal!
So gorgeous!!
Brilliant.
This song saved me from insanity doing sound for an Eretrean "band".
You have no idea of the torture that I endured.
Thank you Sting for saving my sanity

Uh oh I think I saw Phoebe in the 4th row from Sting’s left!
Great performance
The strings are beautiful!
Great song...Thanks for sharing.
Great version, thanks !
english-bosnian maestral collaboration!
this song was written by a bard in the 15th century, still it brings a tear to my eye, and memories of my love to mind
dude get some help
It is a beautiful song, and this is the best I've heard him play.❤
On Lute sound so great
now thats just epic
Wauuuuu!!! Stupendo!
SIMPLY AMAZING! :-)
Edo fantasticno, Nice work..I miss our great time in New York. Hope i will have chance to see you with Sting in New York but if not here then in Beograd
Tão lindo!
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks. I used to play Renaissance lute and it looks different from the lute that I played.
YAY. & sigh.
I've always wanted the STUDIO 60 ON SUNSET STRIP performance intact.

Old songs, New styles & vice versa? Richard Thompson's 1000 year tour.
The beauty of Not That Innocent revealed...
@BaxorUpGreat
You're right!

thank you... i hadn't found it and had no other reply. I appreciate your time.

Bello
nice song
Sometimes browsing youtube suggested videos for an hour leads to horrible things. And sometimes it leads to things like this.
@edinbujak Absolutly!
@freddh2
Could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the event was being run by XM satellite radio and was broadcasted live. Roughly a year ago.
@antjh1981 Completely agree re. both the song and the show!!
It is a lute, the other player plays an arch lute. An ud is a similar, though non-fretted arabian instrument. Check out the supurb record "Thimar" from Brahem, Holland & Sureman for ud =)

LOVE ***&
Happy Birthday Carlos! You are loved by me. ❤️ This song is for you. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ posted on 01/02/2020
The only minus of this piece is that it isn't in 4K, being a 13 years old concert
nice one igor
To take a bit of modernity & bring it back to the source is a good thing.
Anglian/Danish music, 1000 years later...
@pba94 Hip hop has been around for several decades.
Why does this sound so much better at 0.75 speed?
For Roy....will you stay with me, will you be my bun...?

Ytmp3.com a little bit late😃
Mani oan lute 2
awesome. you have a cool head on your shoulders. no need to descend to his/her levels to argue.. anyhoo enjoy what you enjoy and have fun Eh?
Is it a lute or a theorbo? Whatever it is, this is beautiful.
If you search: Sting & Edin Karamazov
You'll find this in iTunes ... if you haven't already gotten a response for this request
is this instrument an aud? or what was it called. i know hte sound, but the name eludes me
I think it's just a mesmeric performance. This probably isn't that interesting to read, and I don't know alot about Sting and The Police, but fuck this is just a brilliant thing. Thanks for posting!
At Least For This One Song, There Should Have Been Dominic On Stage Too.
@kribaby76 - Mmmmm, No, this is written by Sting! No 15th century bard there... And why "still" it brings a tear to your eye - are you born in the 15th century or what? *just kidding*
No, he is adapting the song for style purposes
@freddh2
Looks like a private show case for some "high caste" audience ...
Dunno, I've seen tons of performers do that just for the hell of it.
@Cuddlemocha Of course you can't compare two songs but you can compare the process of their making and the artist. I'd bet those lutes are a real bitch to tune.
+David Yates The guy who posted this made a mistake those are theorbos not lutes but yea they are
Is this from Studio 60?
(((♥️)))
@kribaby76 Are you sure this song wasn't written by Sting? Is it true that it was written by someone other? I can't belive that :) How would you proove that?
Fun fact, did you know that Sting is the father of Neil Patrick Harris?
wat

He is playing theorbo not lute
Doesn't it seem or feel like he is rushing it a bit?
OCARANA!
