How to Trade Gen 1/2 Pokemon into Gen 3 and Up - Specials

- Welcome to Atop the Fourth Wall, where bad comics burn. However, this video is not about comics - but Pokémon! It's always said that trading Pokémon off of Generation 1 (Red/Blue/Yellow) and 2 (Gold/Silver/Crystal) cartridges into Generation 3 and up is impossible! ...Or is it?
atopthefourthwall.com
NOTE: Other suggestions have been thrown in that would also work, including using an Everdrive GB to get around the GB USB Smart Card, since that uses micro-SD cards inside of it and doesn't need proprietary software to work. And while it doesn't work with the Mega Memory Card, you CAN trade from a regular cartridge onto it and then directly convert them from there since it uses the standard rom formats and the like on it. That being said, having just did some google and ebay searches for it, it IS rather expensive, hovering around $60-$100 (which were instant-buy options. On Ebay, bidding for them can be cheaper, but it's not a guarantee of receiving it). Someone else mentioned they'd try backing up the save using a Retron-5.
UPDATE FROM THE FUTURE: In the years since I made this video, of course the Gen 1 and 2 games have been released on virtual console with a method of trading up (PokéTransfer). For those who still want to trade up using their original cartridges, the good news is there's still a way to do it via VC - tutorials have already sprung up on CZcams on how to copy your save file into the virtual console and just using PokéTransfer with it. This is a considerably cheaper solution than what I offered here, especially since the only thing you need to acquire is a way of getting the save file off of your cartridge through Mega Memory Card or similar device. Be aware, though, this will require Homebrew software be put on your 3DS, and I have no familiarity with that. - Hry
This question keeps coming up - "Why do you need an R4 if you can just trade it over to a Gen 3 cartridge?" You DON'T necessarily. I'm suggesting TWO DIFFERENT PATHS to get it into an official one, since some people may not have two Gameboy Advances in order to get it over to normal cartridges, especially since the Supercard I showed off in the video didn't fit into a GBA SP, which more people are likely to have than a model one Gameboy Advance. If you've got it over to a regular GBA cartridge, then you're good. If you can't get it over that way, then using an R4 will work.
Thanks for the info.
thanks for coming back 2 years later
I have FOUR original-model Game Boy Advance systems - for multiplayer reasons, of course.
Aside from the fact that their screens are super dark, and aren't lit - neither front-lit nor back-lit - I still like them a lot more, because unlike the Game Boy Advance SP, the original doesn't cramp my hands. :D
Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall I'm a gen 4 trainer, but thanks Linkara for all your hard work.
Hold up. Are you saying that I can transfer my Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow save data to a Pokemon Emulator? How? I'm always completely lost when I watch this video.
this comment goes to all those Pokemon lost before this video was made, you shant be forgotten
hellothisismufin shall we vote or heads in they're lost grace
hellothisismufin yup i lost my stong charizard in fire red a couple months ago RIP 😔🙏
I was still young when my Gold game unexpectedly crashed while I was playing it. It's a shame, nowadays I would know what to do.
Wait gen 3 can do that! Oh no! Time to transfer my pokes up!
Deadn’t
God, this looks like the most elaborate experiment with a video game, ever. Goes to show the awesome power of technology.
Technology is incredible! Now you can transfer Pokemon from another time!
--"Technology is amazing" NPC from Sun and Moon
The future is now, thanks to science!
dylangonzalez13 I see what you did there
dylangonzalez13 xy and z was so awesome.
(I know but this is a year old, but) Citronic gear on!
(or for dub watchers) Clemontic gear on!
Just watching this made me exhausted lol.
But i still miss my Charizard from 13 years ago... RIP Cinnamon..
+애니 Awww That name is soo cute :)
+Redouan Amankur Sounds like a stripper
+annie
may Cinnamon rest in peace
+annie I know how that feels, I almost lost my Pecan Chu...
A moment of silence for all of our first Pokemon from Generations 1 and 2.
It's really heartening to see that 4 years later, Linkara still replies to help people out with the transfer process.
literally 7 years later
Thanks man, I just got my first ever Pokemon, Venusaur, into my Alpha Sapphire game and already used her to dismantle Steven :)
Did you get the mega?
have you megaevolved it yet ?
Hey, idk if it would work so maybe you could tell me, would using an old save file with the palpark already usable on a normal ds game work?
God thats a lot of equipment just to transfer pokemon from 20 years ago.
Yep! We're kind of nuts like that. XD
:D
Can this still even be done now that it has been a year later? Or is it now even more difficult or expensive?
Also, what about after generation 3? Wouldn't you still need to transfer through each generation to get to the current one?
why would it be any more expensive? Generation 4-6 are backwards compatible, you don't need anything special to get a Pokemon from generation 3 to generation 6 other than patience, a DS, and a 3DS.
Actually, gen 2 is also backwards compatible, it's only gen 3 that wasn't, so you'd only have to do this once hopefully.
Holy mother.
Thanks for all the hard work you've clearly done in the name of preserving first and second generation Pokemon. Sadly, my much loved Feraligatr named Chomper died when the internal battery in my Silver cartridge did. He was a big part of my childhood. I was absolutely destroyed when I dusted off my old game to show him to a friend and saw that dreaded battery message.
While some may laugh at the notion, people honestly grow attached to these little characters of code. Feraligatr helped me through so much when I was growing up. That's part of the magic of Pokemon.
+Pikachew
may Chomper rest in peace
+Pikachew I feel you. Yellow was my first pokemon game and after seeing Ash's Charizard in the anime I couldn't wait to pick Charmander as my starter... Instead I got a Pikachu. I liked Pikachu but Charizard was my absolute favorite pokemon. It stayed with me as the strongest member of my team, Until gen 2 came out and nobody would let me use their Gameboy to trade him to my silver version (Bas*%#ds). So Charizard got left behind with my other pokes until one day the same dry battery of death message appeared. Goodbye old friend even though you were nothing but numbers the time we had together I'll never forget.
just change the battery?
With the older games of G/S/C and R/B/Y, the way the game saves are stored is different from that of R/S/E and onwards. Once the internal battery runs dry on the older games, your save data is also lost since it was only from Gen III and onwards where they started to use flash based memory for storing your file.
Replacing the battery would mean I could play Pokemon Silver again and save the game, but my original file and Chomper would still be lost to time. If only, right?
i have a couple of stories for you that's similar. in gen three, in my copy of emerald, i held onto the first team that i ever used in that game. the team itself is 13 years old, and when i heard about save batteries dying in g3 games i frequently checked up on my loved 6. Luckily, after nearly everyone's files died mine lived, and i was able to bring my babies up to g6 and they even rest next to the g6.5 recreation of that team in alpha sapphire now. though, after i brought them up and stuff, i had a heart attack for a while. see, my 2ds that i had since launch got stolen with X in it, (that game had over 700 hours) i had no way of checking if my loved mons were ok until a few months ago when a kind friend got me a 3ds out of kindness. between the time my 2ds was stolen and i got my current ds, my bank pass expiried, and i was scared i'd lose my living dex, my countless events, my over hundred of shinies, and those six pokemon i've had for years. luckily, i had a brain and the night before i was robbed i moved them onto AS and they were ok, along with everything i had in bank.
my second story is shorter. My Magene, my first levl 100 pokemon and my maganium in gen 2. Had t hat file since 2013 (i was poor as dirt at the time and it was the first time i could afford a gameboy) collectively, over the dozens of files i had on that same i easily had 2,000 hours on it. One day, after getting home from my third year of high school in 2008-2009, i eagerly put my crystal version in my gameboy to find out that it my crystal version died. Not the battery, but the strips. I still have the cartridge years after it's death because of the memories tied to it and my poor, ever lost Magene.
You are a legend. This is the greatest Pokemon Tutorial video I have ever watched, can't wait to get MEW. We need to get people to remake the mega memory card for a cheaper price and to make it readily avalable.
Sitrush Mew, Celebi, Everything Else...
Yum yum.
DethHydra Mind you, I haven't tested anything with Celebi before, so I don't know what the specifications for that would be for its location.
Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall You get it through glitches, just like mew. Hopefully I understood you correctly.
DethHydra Nah, I mean where to set its original location for trade-up so it'll pass the bank. Like I said in the video, some Pokémon like Mew you have to be more specific on its original location or it won't go through.
Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall Ah. That makes sense.
This video is a public service to the game community. Thank you for making it.
*Born in a world of strife!*
*Against the odds!*
*We choose to TRADE!*
Alas, the only pre-Gen 3 game I have left is my old Crystal, but they are not lost on me. But wow, talk about the level of dedication people can go through. ... Though this IS the Pokémon fanbase and all, but still, I guess the saying really is true: *Impossible is nothing.*
TheGamingFreakGG that's nothing
Hmm Reburst catchphrase.
MageKnight404 *Blossom Dance* !
You mean *PETAL DANCE!*
11:20 - SURF is the problem; Pokémon Bank does NOT accept Pokémon who know HMs.
Why?
@@ing4gi I'd imagine because different things are HMs in each game: flash, defog, rock climb. It probably doesn't know how to make an HM into a normal move and vise versa
@@Subjecttochannel I'm fairly certain its to prevent people from trapping themselves because they transferred up all their hm mons while on an island or something.
Well it is possible to transfer Gen 6 pokemons in the bank with HMs. I can't remember what happened when I transfer mine from gen 5 to 6 but I can say some moves will stop your pokemon from transferring, like my Blissey with Bide, which really pissed me off since I thought about it hard in Gen 1 when I got my TM from Brock. Blissey blessed with high HP and I ended up removing Counter instead for something else like Blizzard since I thought there was no need for 2 counter moves. Ends up you can have a Blissey with Counter as it counts as an egg move -___- Also my legit gen 1 Mewtwo got blocked from the bank for unknown reasons. I basically took the one from a random guy's ROM I downloaded and pasted all of my Mewtwo's info except of where it came from, which is now FireRed. Worked like a charm.
Sure that it's a long winded process but it's amazing that it's now possible to send all your Gen 1 or 2 Pokemon into later Gen games.
Linkara I just want to say thanks, I bought half the hardware to do this when this video came out Five years ago and made a backup. Then I couldn’t figure out how to get all the software to work and gave up. My original cartridge died, the laptop with my backup died, and I gave up hope.
Then this video Popped up two weeks ago, and I thought I’d check my backup on my megamemory card, it still existed Which blew my mind. It took me almost two weeks of most of my free time (up to five-six hours some days) to get all the software running. I’m not exactly tech savvy, I mean I do alright but this was one hell of a trek involving links saved through the wayback machine for old patches for r4s and AP patches.
Anyway, very long story short, my original venusaur from 21 years ago that I beat the elite 4 and champion with for the first time, who survived cartridge battery death and laptop crashes by sheer luck, sat in backup almost lost for five years, and has survived moves across the planet from the uk to australia and back, twice, is now safely in my Pokemon bank waiting to get transferred into sword and shield.
So thank you, not much else I can say but that
Congratulations! =D
I just salute you. Your venusaur was meant to survive with you. I wish I had backed up all my save files to the Mega Memory card before the batteries died. I'm so happy to read of your success!
C. Skas it’s funny that you commented today, because it was today that I transferred him up into Pokémon sword after finally being able to get a switch.
I really wish I hadn't lost my Feraligatr as a kid...my heart still hurts over that...
***** Same with me and my Moltres. I'm not really to sure what happened to it, the last game I remember having it in was Pearl...
Falconwing 51 I bet 100 dallahs that you forgoted in the day care lul
I just want to say how much this helped me get my Pokemon to Gen 6. I lost my original save files from Silver and Blue but by dumb luck most of them were in the Pokemon Stadium 2 boxes. After transferring a few out of the box I did this trick pretty much word for word of what you said and it worked. I was almost in tears when I saw my very first Chikorita I ever had in Gen 6 and he will be staying with me forever now. I knew there were tricks to do this but I felt like it was all over the place and it was the first real documented way of doing this. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much. Words can't describe how I feel about this.
+Konacha37 You are more than welcome! Congratulations! ^_^
In a way, it looks like Nintendo listened to us now that the Pokemon Bank is eventually going to have Virtual Console support for the digital Gen 1 Pokemon games.
+Buzzing Sign Diner I wonder how they'll officially handle the EVs/IVs, splitting the Special stat, all the missing personality data, and Pokemon that would be shiny in Gen 2.
ShermTank7272 Seeing as how some fans made a converter for EV/IV stats, I can assume that Gamefreak can make a similar converter and include it built-in to automatically work in the Poke Transporter (the way Gen 5 Pokemon can be transferred to the Bank "one-way.")
As for shininess, then it's probably going to be some sort of command that knows how to read the Gen 2 IV stats as either regular or shiny-producing stats, then adjust the personality values accordingly during the conversion process.
I thunk it's only for Sun and moon cuz they didn't mention XY and ORAS
UltimateDailga12 I know, but I never said anything about XYORAS compatibility.
P.S. Don't be surprised to see Pokemon Bank straight-up stop allowing two-way transfers between those games and itself once Sun and Moon comes out.
Buzzing Sign Diner There's no way they'd not allow 2 way transfers between Bank and XYORAS. Otherwise, you would never be able to bring your Gen 5 Pokemon up into Gen 6; you'd have to go straight to Gen 7.
Jesus! And i thought Transfering to a 3DS to a New 3DS was a chore!
TheArceusftw All this taught me was that there was a pokemon program that allows me to generate pokemon. Honestly, if I wanted to go the 'legit' route when hacking, I would just make the pokemon as identical as possible and then delete the 'legitimate' pokemon afterwards. It would be the same result and no ethical boundaries would have been crossed.
+Megalus Doomslayer Except that pkhex and pokegen don't allow for selecting gen1/2 as origin game thus you're tough outta luck.
***** You're missing the point.
This guide should be named "How to get your Pikachu to lose weight in 20 minutes" - before 6:15 and after 18:50
Javier Crespo lol
I am so glad that you also uploaded this to CZcams on the same day. Thanks a lot.
I'm so glad you made this. Even though Pearl was my first game, I bet you made hundreds of other people happy that they can do this and be with their original team. Thanks for the vid :)
I surprised nintendo didn't flag this. They're a bit on the draconian side
After all the shits I've seen in Gen 6 battles I can understand why. I mean, it's one thing to see your first shiny Arceus but when it's the 6th time a trainer has one you start to wonder.
You can teach Charizard Seismic Toss, it has to be from Gen 3 tho. There's a move tutor in Pewter City can teach pretty much any Pokemon in that game Seismic Toss.
I’ve also since learned that it is also possible to get Shiny females in Gen 2.
• _In Gen 2, Shiny Pokémon must have a DV of 10 in every stat but Attack._
*ie:*
_( X / 10 / 10 / 10 = Shiny )_
_X = Attack Stat_
• _Gender in Gen 2 is tied directly to the Attack Stat. Female Pokémon are those who have the lower Attack for their gender ratio._
_(That pink and blue bar when you search Pokés on Bulbapedia)_
Basically, the value of a Shiny Female Pokémon is tied to gender ratio **and** DVs (Gen 2’s version of IVs) simultaneously.
Here’s the list of ratios from male to female (mtf), a 50/50 (even) split and female to male (ftm) as I understand it:
3:1 ftm - ≤ 11
1:1 even - ≤ 7
3:1 mtf - ≤ 3
I love that someone else tries to do this besides me! And the satisfaction of the Pokebank accepting your efforts is great :) Both my yellow carts still work and also Blue and red, but crystal and gold died, I had some great Pokemon on Crystal....
I love you for this! I've kept certain Pokemon since Gen1 and have always wanted to be able to save them. Thank you for all your hard work and research!
0:45 How did he predict the release of Pokemon rby on eshop and the pokemon bank usage?
He didn't. He was just saving face incase nintendo sees the video.
Pokémon Ruby is on eshop?
Connor Daley
Red blue and yellow.
Oh, sorry I misread it
:OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Nintendo should just release their own peripheral "trade kit" for transferring pokemon from gbc/gba into the 3ds so that you can keep your pokemon... im so supprised they havent done this yet
And eventually Gen 2 VC games. Only thing missing is Crystal.
MegamanNG Crystal’s out. Be rad if they released gen 3 games to the VC for Switch.
The reason they don't is guard fissure machamp
Gl if you want mass no guard fissure machamps everywhere
Bought the suggested equipment to give this a shot in preparation for Sun and Moon. You are a god!
Even though I don't need to do this, this was an amazingly fun watch as a tech / gaming nerd who just got back in to Pokemon this year. Playing Yellow atm. Thanks for putting in the work - Liked, faved and subbed.
I just fired up my Gen 1 Red and saved file was still there. I need to get them moved off. That is a 23 year old Venasaur that I must save!
This video was so dope !!! you broke down everything well done my friend well done
4:44 this pretty much explains how most GB games got turned into ROMs in the first place this was extremely educational thanks for the video
Oh, my, gosh…
I watched this entire video thinking I was watching TheJWittz.
Lol.
Holy cow. Mega Memory Card. I remember owning one back then.
Neat method to use, though a little too pricey. Not to mention that my Gen I/II files have long since been dead.
Most useful video ever. :)
I still have my Fire Red, Leaf Green, Ruby and Sapphire carts. I don't know if I still have my original Gen 2 cartridges cause they got lost. Now this is making me want to get this.
Awesome man, this is an epic process to move those little buggers.
Damn, and I thought I was a nerd.
You've done the world a great service, Linkara. Now, if my battery for Gold and Crystal hadn't died 3 times over, I'd find this more useful than I have.
IT ACTUALLY WORKED THANK YOU!
After you placed Pikachu on your PC at Pokemon emerald, what next?
I tried to save it after transferring pikachu to my PC, but when I reload the game. He was never there... I keep doing this, pls help how to fix this
@Aga_013 What game? The Emerald on the ROM? From your PC or Supercard cartridge? If it's from your PC just save the game from the in-game menu, then save from the emulator too. Just save every possible way, I had slight trouble figuring out at first. If it's on the Supercard cartridge well it's probably bugged like mine was, I couldn't save in-game so once it's in the supercard and running just trade ASAP to a FULL BLOWN LEGIT gen 3 cartridge.
@@FL_nar_Rayya I tried using the PKhex Editor to transfer Pikachu from Pokemon Yellow to Pokemon Emerald. And it say: " you are not allowed to transfer older version from this Generation III " and I'm so upset for the results.
I use the PKX Delta v4.5 and it works like a charm, if it still doesn't work and you can see your Pikachu's info you could just create a whole new pikachu in Emerald but put in all of the info of your Pikachu. Give it the same exp, on the second box of trainer ID give something like 64408, the IVs are multiplied by 2 and on the EV stats instead of something like 9742 it must go more like 55, so multiply the 9742 by 0.005646 and round it down. The personality value can range to anything you'd like, so long as it's between 0 and 4,294,967,295.
Linkara, I just want to say that this guide still has its merits, especially if people are getting into collecting the original games.
Of course, you could use CFW on your 3DS, backup your VC R/B/Y/G/S/C save files with JKSM Save Manager or CheckPoint, and then use the Metropolis Converter to edit and add them to a Gen 3 cartridge (provided that you used an R4 card on a DS to backup your GBA cart and its save file).
I know the method outlined above defeats the purpose outlined in this video, but if you’re new to Pokémon, there’s all kinds of fun to be had when it comes to catching them all, and this guide, although obsolete, shows us one way to cross the bridge from one generation to the next (though this will have limits when it comes to using Pokémon Home with Sword and Shield).
I enjoyed the video, keep up the great work!!
I love how others figured out how to use similar tools to take the save file from the cartridges and put it in the VC version! =)
You know...this video teared me up a little, i mean, we all have feelings for our first pokémon pokémon game, being able to transfer your pokémon to the newer generations is just awesome and the hard setup for this just makes it more special, it is like we are making an effort to a good friend from the past (in this case our pokémon)
R4's still being made, but its called R4i now, and is only being manufactured for 3DS. It still exclusively runs DS roms though. I recommend using R4i Gold for this procedure.
If only I still had my old Blue Version game. I would love to have my old Blastose and Butterfree again.
You are an absolute legend for making this
Linker, thank you so much for making this video. I haven't started on the project yet, but I will be doing it, hopefully sometime this year. I'll probably make a video of me doing it, so maybe I'll tweet it to you.
Charizard can learn Seismic toss through Move Tutors in Gen 3.
NOTE TO ANYONE STILL TRANSFERRING THEIR POKEMON TODAY: You can now do it without any equipment if you're trying to transfer your Pokemon from your ROMs into your DS! Here's how I did it:
1. Transfer my Gen 1-2 Pokemon into a Gen 3 ROM using Metropolis' Converter tool.
2. Downloaded a Gen 4 ROM and a DS emulator. I was able to use the Migration tool in my completed Platinum ROM by inserting a 'GBA cartridge' ROM into the emulator's settings. I was using Desmume for this portion but switched to MelonDS later on, MelonDS seems to have the same function.
3. Using MelonDS, I connected to the WiFi Club on both my DS and PC ROM to trade. NOTE: Yes, Nintendo has closed the Wifi servers years ago, but there's a server being run by Poké Classic Network that allows you to trade and battle online! There's plenty of videos out there to show you how to set up your device to use it.
And ta-dah! Now I have my Pokémon Crystal and Pokémon AshGray Pokémon on my SoulSilver file. ;) Happy transferring to all!
Edit: Made a walk through video on my channel for those who need guidance :)
i am going to share this video with my friends who have played since gen one thank you linkara
I didn't know Linkara was a fellow Pokenerd! This is great!
2:20 "CONGLATURATION"
- Linkara
You Have served this Country Extremely Well...
God Bless you Lmao
This was incredible to watch.
Probably explains why I keep watching it
I already completed FR's National Pokedex, but thank you for the great video and interesting mechanics!
"Pokemon you catch in Virtual Console versions of Red/Blue/Yellow will be able to be transfered over to Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon through Pokemon Bank."
+TheMonyarm Eeyup. Only thing missing is Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal joining the eShop. The eShop would crash within minutes.
+MegamanNG I hope they make gen 2 eshop to playing blue at and it's fun
PhantomDR Definitely.
***** hoping here want to play Crystal seeing as i remember playing Silver when i was little (i don't think i beat it but ohhwell i remember my cousin going into whirl islands to catch Lugia and we kinda got lost and i didn't have dig or escape rope)
I'm from the future. Red and Blue and Yellow are coming to the eshop but no news about the transferring to Bank thing.
I'm from the future too. I hope the PokeBank transfer happens, because since gen 1 is simply being emulated, Missingno. Still hides in the code ;) I'd love to catch one and send it to X XD
Actually that was me from some other year. I'm in '16 now
+TheSuperqami To convert a a Gen 1 or Gen 2 'Mon to be Gen 3 ready alone is a trip (Believe me, I've been working on doing it via the processes in this video), but the jump from Gen 1 to Gen 6 would require even more details added to each 'Mon.
The amount of math and manipulation of data involved in this process makes me think the eShop versions will not have Bank connectivity.
I was really hoping they would, but the more I think about it, the less realistic it becomes.
As the eShop games are Gen 1, genders will have to be added. Natures and characteristics will have to be added. Abilities have to be added. And EVs will have to be reformatted to conform with the 510 standard of Gen 6.
I use cross multiplication to figure out what the EVs are supposed to be now, but can we really expect the Bank to do that, and to assign genders, natures, abilities, and characteristics? I unfortunately think Game Freak won't do it.
I am absolutely willing to be surprised though!
+Alex Johnson having watched this 20 minute video my head blew up. I'm holding out for the eShop red blue & yellow versions having pokebank compatibility.
Hedd Wyn John I feel you. I really do. But my gut tells me it's not happening :/
I've gotta say you're a life saver, well pokemon lives at least... I followed every steps, struggled through with my own knowledge of hacking/modding/glitching and I'm now enjoying good times in Gen 6 (Alpha Sapphire) with the same pokemon I won the whole Pokemon Stadium 2 game. Now speaking of struggles and such, first thing is the Supercard, I had to glitch it to make it work, removing the cartridge while making a bug test (holding L + R while starting) (also I'll specify the bug test revealed problems with the SDRAM or something like that) and then putting the cartridge back in (fast enough), this bypassed the SDRAM error (or something), while my Supercard game wasn't saving I just wanted to send the pokemon into my legit game. Now into the trading: YOU MUST HAVE COMPATIBLE GAMEBOY ADVANCED. I originally thought my SP would work with the basic advanced but turns out it doesn't. I ended up buying another Gameboy Advanced and two wifi port thing but that's not all. YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE YOUR CARTRIDGES ARE LEGIT. I found out my Emerald game (which I spent +100 hours already) was not legit and I had to FIND then buy a legit gen 3 game, which was FireRed and I took the opportunity to catch some pokemons I didn't have like Mankey. Aaaand finally there's gen 3 to 4, which in order to import all of my +200 pokemon to gen 4 I can only legitimately do 6 per days, unless you glitch it with two LEGIT gen 3 cartridges, so I ended up buying ANOTHER FireRed (that one was the fastest to get at the time) in order to perform the glitch. I gotta tell you though, after hundreds of dollars spent, 2 months working and waiting for it I can assure you it was worth it.
This was magical. It needs so much more attention. As someone who can only replay games on emulators, and with a DS flash cart on the way, I might actually try this out! I'd love to see my Miltank in Gen 6 :3
This man just predicted the future
16:44 when the imposter is sus
Awesome guide, thanks very much for your work!
You are the real MVP . Tnx very very much . credits to the original writer of the tutorial !
Lets trade up missingno to Oras F YEAH MISSINGNO USE WATER GUN!!!!
***** you can look at the video
+Nicesnofla missingno is caused by gen 2 pokemon that were scrapped, like ho-oh,delibird,sneasel etc. Yes you can trade to gen 2 but it would turn onto a pokemon that it represents. So you cant get a "missingno" in its glitchy form to gen two but as the pokemon it represents. bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_Pok%C3%A9mon_by_index_number_(Generation_I) this will tell you which missingno transforms into what
Anirudh Arvind aha okey well but a missingno would be kinda nice in a 6 gen game :P
Nicesnofla tru dat
+Nicesnofla 1) people have used texture hacks for gen6 missingno. 2) the actual "missing number" data in Gen6 which can technically be triggered after messing with the rom is displayed as... Wait for it.... Unown. Yeah... Unown.. 10/10 funny GameFreak
Plays Pokemon Oras without a sentret oh crap I need one to complete my dex *gold game has sentret* OH WELL HERE GOES MONEY
AAAA! I remember seeing something like this a long time ago!
I was ment to do something like this before but i..admitedly forgot about it after being invested in something else, thank you for making me remember this!
The funny thing is that I'm watching this a lot later in the year, and I'm just laughing at the fact that this hard work and money has gone down because of the thing you predicted. XD
Hey, I don't mind - it was still a thing for a while and I was happy to do it. =)
Do you have an all-time favorite Pokemon, Linkara? Like, of all time or one from each Gen? I know Weedle has a special place with you from your Psyweedle days. I'm kinda bad at choosing favorites myself. I like the kick-ass ones, like Charizard, but I also like the cuter ones, like Snivy and Emolga.
TPrower Bulbasaur is my favorite Pokémon of all time. ^_^
Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall I think there was a Beetleborgs Power Rangers Turbo comic. Would you be willing to review it (if you can find it)?
(Fun fact: The R4 chip/cart is an personified enemy in the HYPERDIMENSION NEPTUNIA series.) Heck, the HDN Re-Birth 1 game is on Steam. (I would love to watch you play the game on twitch or something to hear your reactions and possible snarky comments.) What do you think on this idea?
Any way, this video was very informative but I don't think I'll ever do this. Keep up the good work.
Oh come on everyone knows linkara's first favorite Pokémon my question is what's your second favorite Pokémon is and if you are going to be doing a history of power ranger?
Kai Adair Hard to say. Probably the entire Mareep line. XD
And of course I'm doing more HOPR. I've had a schedule for them for months. Next one is up March 19th.
Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall That's good to know thanks I'm not update on this stuff a lot so, sorry if I'm not updated.
I can't believe I got to talk to linkara.
Holy Crap! these people must be freaking geniuses to figure this out
NightBladeSpearichu At the very least, they're MUCH more skilled and knowledgeable about the programming aspects of these games than most. I try to look at some of the basic code that's described in other places and I just scratch my head. XD
Awh, this video's just adorable. I no longer play pokémon, I wouldn't want to do it anyway, my cartridge's battery is already dead, it's way too expensive for what it is, and it'd just be mildly amusing if I'd randomly found a video of someone showing it, but the fact that it's Linkara walking us through it warms my heart in a weird way.
Maybe I just take a little solace in the fact that the jaded loud comics nerd is also a Pokémon fan.
Just a quick note, you can use the monsterbrain instead of a 'mega memory card'
it also lets you backup your saves, but at a fraction of the price,
you can find them brand new for under $10!
I thought that the internal battery only could die in the Gen 2 games, and not in the Gen 1 games, but now I'm not sure any more, so I have a question.
Can the internal battery die in a copy of Pokémon Yellow!?
+Henrik Madsen Yep. It was the way the save files were done back in the day.
+Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall Aw man :'(
How long does it take before the battery dies? :'(
Henrik Madsen Usually about 10-15 years, but some have said there's are still working even now, though it's hard to say.
+Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall Okay thanks.
I don't know how old my copy is, but I think it maybe is around 10 years old. :'(
I just hope my copy will continue to work, like some of those people who say that theirs are still working. :')
+Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall I've had Yellow since it came out.
It suffered a corrupted save file once, but it still works fine.
My Gold version's battery died, but a friend fixed it for me
It is possible to now transfer the save data from the Cartridge to the 3DS Virtual Console czcams.com/video/9ZZ06Hh19Bs/video.html its much easier and after you transfer the Save to the 3DS you can use Poke Transfer to get it to the bank and finally get it to gen 7 or 6
Awesome !! I think just like you! Using your original team vs new versions, thanks!!,new suscriber
Man, this is really handy! thank you for showing us how to do this! I've got two R4's so yay! R4's can play GBA ROMs too but...it's...finicky at best.
You sound like an older version of jontron!
God now i cant get that out of my head
+Hype-Pen sweet dreams
+Hype-Pen same
+Hype-Pen ha!
AKA before he was racist
do it with missingno
I just want to know how much trial and error you went through to figure all of this out. So much respect for this.
Linkara! Thanks for sharing this, you are awesome :D
Pro tip: replace the battery when the game is on. This way the SRAM which holds the save file is powered while removing the battery.
At last, now I can bring my Shiny Mew from Crystal over to SoulSIlver! well I'll probably have to get it into Emerald then SoulSilver but still, thanks Linkara.
Also, kinda makes me wonder how people in the Pokemon world would react to a trainer having Mew in their party, especially a Shiny one. I could imagine another trainer taking it as the ultimate challenge, throwing their hands up in surrender or not knowing about the legends of Mew and laughing Mew off when I send him out.
Lest they know how good of a special attacker my Mew was :)
Hard to say. In the anime, during the Sinnoh tournament, there was a guy named Tobias who had both a Darkrai AND a Latios, so while there was shock and amazement that that's what they had, they were still considered as valid entries in the fight... and unfortunately felt very dissatisfying for me, personally, buuut that's just me. XD
Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall
Unfortunately if I were to bring out Baby Blue Mew to Gen 6 and into a PvP battle (if possible), closest I'll get to that is being called a hacker or getting asked "how u get blue Mew" or something.
At least I will have an automatic Anti Fairy type with me in Gen 6, Sludge bomb works wonders.
DragonMastrNova Well, why would you be bringing a fresh Mew into a PvP battle, anyway? XD
No reason really XD After wiping a team I can imagine Mew going like this

Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall
It gets better during that tournament you can see a guy with a Heatmor in the back ground. A legendary pokemon just chillin with his trainer.
This is amazing. The fanbase for these legendary games.. These ppl care.
Well I'm quite pleased to say that this worked for me and once again linkara proves to be the most functional person.
was it worth it ?
Actually, is isn't. The pkmns can be directly injected in 6gen games
+ViboraUnleashed But it doesn't feel right to do that :/
I say trust him, doing it the way in the video is very costly and takes a lot of time.
barely, the effort you put in this is the time you could be battling and getting better.
Thankfully we can just take the .sav and put into the VC now, if you have a modded 3DS that is.
So I was interesting to learn new things Your show is awesome
Well, good news! Your voice was heard! For quite a while now, pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, and Crystal are all available for 3DS Virtual Console. This guide isn't technically obsolete yet as if you want to transfer these mons to gens 3, 4, and 5 you still need to do this.
My brain hurts now.
0:59 as of 2/28/16 this guide is obsolete
+Grady Childs Disagreed. I want those equip items out of my Pokemon before banking them.
+Grady Childs He means if Nintendo made a service for transferring Gen 1-2 to 3 and onwards.
My god the time effort reading studying and $ you put in just to be able to do this is insane you my friend are a very patient & intelligent person just wow almost mind boggling
Nice ending and great video
lol there is a way that's full legit, skipping 5 gens. That's getting the virtual console and using pokebank to go to gen 7 XD
Bingogogo721
Date...
Zeku ik.
Now this is posible via e-shop and pokebank.
He's not talking about the 3DS version he is talking about the ones on the gameboy look it up
TEM And I'm saying that now we can send gen 1 pokemon to current gen.
***** Sigh. I am saying there will soon be a method to send gen 1 (and probably 2) to recent generation games.
***** I SAID RECENT GENS.
Oh my god you thick boy...
He's referring to the eShop method using Pokemon bank, like you said. It is sending Gen 1 games to gen 7, since the original games are not modified in any way, shape, or form.
Can't say I relate to this much since I never completed a gen 1 or 2 game, I was very into Pokemon via the Anime yet rarely do I get that into actually playing RPGs.
Retron 5 wasn't released before this video but you can pretty much everything with just buying a Retron V.
Retron 5 allows you to back up saves and you can put those saves onto SD cards which can be transfered to your computer very easily.
Check older comments - some have tried to do so with a Retron 5 and were unsuccessful in converting it into the proper save format, although I don't have one myself to test it.
Alternatively titled: "How to Spot a Genwunner from the Thumbnail Alone"
or i could just throw my pokemon games to the trash. it certainly would be easier
+Ace D. I don't think that would achieve what we're trying to accomplish, but thanks for the suggestion! =)
+Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall nope but i would achieve something by the end of this life haha.
PD: Keep up the excellent work :)
I wish I had known that some years earlier xD But great to see it actually would work!
Or you can use a pokemon creation program for gen 3 that exports gameshark/action replay codes to manually recreate your gen 1 or gen 2 teams (essentially what the converter in the video did automatically), then use the code with a gba action replay to add the pokemon to box slot 1 for each code. For the secret id you can use an old gameboy gameshark to reveal it if it really matters to you. From there transfer all the pokemon up to gen 5 using actual hardware and then to pokebank. If pokebank rejects it, you can run various legitimacy checkers to see what was wrong and start over (or make a gen 5 pkm file and use a gen 5 legality checker if you have access to a ds action replay). Makes it so you don't need flash carts, and drops it down to one device to buy (gba gameshark or action replay to get it through all gens, or a ds action replay to go for a direct gen 5 pkm file) or two if you really care about that secret id. Another option is to recreate your team using a gen 6 pkx file and inject it directly into x, y or oras via the qr code workaround, assuming you still have an original 3ds without upgraded firmware.
You're crazy if you wanna pay and do all this to get those Pokemon
+MarcusRalphson Yep, I sure am. =)
+Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall Was a reference to anyone doing it xD but fairs.
At this point you'd may as well hack it
MarcusRalphson Yeah, but it's not the same. There's a sense of legitimacy about this - after all, you can technically get any Pokémon via GTS or the like if you just want the pokedex entry, but I want the data from the original games. ^_^
+Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall But to me it feels like it´s not "The same data" as it's a copy of a converted copy upon copy that has gone through so many processes...
It's like teleportation, if you have to be originally destroyed before reappearing somewhere else as a replica, then it's not you, you were destroyed! Although I think that's pretty much what happens when we trade, or something haha. XD
In any case, it does not feel... organic XD
TMSNssto And that's a fair enough critique, and it's one I've shared before from those who have said "just get a Pokémon with the same IV stats!" or the like. It feels more organic to me, at least, since it copies over so much data from it. ^_^
But hey, this may all be obsolete if the upcoming virtual console releases of the game can be traded up. XD
Still own all of my games from gen 1-9
Did not realize the price of my games are 200$… 😅
Thank God for the GB operator making this even easier.
Thank you so much for making this video.
Occasionally would use an R4 and a Ruby ROM to move emulated Pokémon to actual games, which I used to think was clever, but . . . wow. This goes above and beyond. Hats off to all the smart people who figured this out.
