With this i can practice polar alignment and imaging basics more often. In the winter the weather here is -30c at night and a much nicer -10c during the day. Less cloud too. Using a PST requires patience and as it has a sweet spot, sometimes requiring averted viewing. the longer you LOOK THROUGH THE EYEPIECE the more detail you will see. I see filaments, plages, active areas as well as prominence detail. Some of my best "astro-photos" have been taken as single shots (no processing) with a basic holiday style digital camera at full zoom to avoid vignetting.

The primary mirror was not silvered, so only 4% of the Sun's light made it back to the diagonal mirror and on to the film and the primary focal plane of the telescope..

I have just stumbled on this video, I have the Coronado PST40 as well, this video came along at the right time as I am trying to get my scope to focus with no success. I have tried with different eyepieces in camera adapters, 2x barlow, even tried the barlow lens on a camera adaptor with no luck.
I have the IMX174 camera which has very simular specs to the ZWO174 I cant get it to focus either. Tried DSLR cannon1300d no luck with that either.
I know this video was put up a few years ago but can you recall how long the adaptor and barlow that you used is? did you use an eyepiece in the adaptor? I have tried all sorts of adaptors, eyepieces, 2x barlows configurations and nothing has worked, I have also noticed that the scope wont focus with a camera connected using the focuser knob.
You made it look too easy, just connect the camera and plug in the comp' and away you go, as if it was that easy for me I would not have bother you. What am I missing?

@@DylanODonnell Thanks for getting back, much appreciated. I was fortunate enough to get an other reply through Ice In Space, where they shortened the eyepiece holder, as it is in two parts, and still maintained focus for visual and for camera work. I have yet to try it out because of cloudy weather. Cheers Robert

Epic!!! Coronado on the CGX in a dome... People at my work are looking at me like I have three heads cause I laughed too hard. Back to work! Astro equipment doesn't purchase themselves and I'm going to get fired.

Great video! I love Solar. I live in Tucson, Arizona 15 minutes away from Lunt. They are great. If needed I can stop & show you they do exist. I can probably have Faye from Lunt show me your scope in the assembly area. I hope. Or maybe she’s in Hawaii with your money😝

Thanks for the Video ! All of us out here under Covid Lockdown are desparate for anything Astro related and we wait at out PC's for hours hoping for a new Video . LOL . Sad but true eh ? I see you are using AutoStakkert 2 and not 3 . Any reason ? I see Emil has confirmed a v4 will be released this year . Can't wait . Cheers . /SRK

You should try for an ISS pass of the Sun I managed it from my observatory using a Coronado scope using a Point grey grasshopper camera on the iMAC, unfortunately the MAC is nearly dead so I've been unable to try it again although I did manage it using a DMK41 & laptop but it dropped a few frames a higer speed camera would be better I guess.

Have you ever considered solatgraphy? I think it is kinda cool. Also it would be cool if you could put film on a 3d printer tray and magnify the sun onto the film and then draw stuff. Very enjoyable video as usual 😀

Dylan, you shouldn't stress your mount like that! i had a PST, worked great then got a Lunt 60, i have an image of a flare taken with the PST and my smartphone that rivals
dudes with expensive cameras. Having lots of time to play with the PST, i was able to really get every drop out of it.
