Best High Point Scientific promo ever...."scuse me while I kiss the sky".
Hehe phew
Getting baked, a cold one, Astrophotography, and gettin laid under stars... just like Baseball, Hotdogs, Apple Pie, and Chevrolet!
Our star is like a wife who cant get any attention from her hubby because he is always out late looking at other stars.
not to mention shes constantly trying to kill us
Only most people don’t know how to give make their wife have a coronal mass ejection. 😜
On the plus side, at least the warts you’re seeing on the sun are happening 8 minutes ago and not 5 mill light years ago.
Or watch the moon about a second ago
I love the idea of a bunch of baked astronomers now spamming HPS with astrophotography questions 😂 great video mate!
Hehe
Dylan has fallen to the dark (or should I say light?) side.
I've had one clear night since December 2nd and I was drunk.
blurry drunk eyes syndrome (BDES)?
Are you sure the mount can handle the PST 😆😆😆
It looked like a bodybuilder thats jacked from the waist down with skinny arms.
Only one counterweight, too. Dude lives on the edge.
oh hi!!!! remember me??!
Its A Small Telescope.. Perhaps The Computer in Mount Wont Notice The Payload😄😄😄
*POS
First time I've watched and laughed at a paid promotion... TWICE!
😆
Dude. So many of us slaying our night time hobby on the altar of solar imaging while getting baked. I’ve had 1 clear night in 40 days and I’ve just bought a new mount. Keep em coming.
It is a lot of fun to image the sun! I am new to astrophotography, I ordered solar sheets off amazon and made my own filter cap for my telescope. With this i can practice polar alignment and imaging basics more often. In the winter the weather here is -30c at night and a much nicer -10c during the day. Less cloud too. I have been having a blast!
Damn that’s cold !
Now those were some equally sick beats :D
Hehe thx Helena 😆
Looking good, Dylan! I'm usually on hold for the sun during December and January because it's too cold and the sun is too low.
Kind of glad you made a video about solar-photography. Been enviously watching Trevor and some others posting their amazing videos, and here I am, suffering from AP-withdrawals having had a single clear night since December 1st.
@1:29 "So join me in my back yard under the deathly Australian hot summer Sun..." Sounds great Dylan. Today in Byron Bay I see it's 28C and 21C tonight, while here in Winnipeg it's -24C, tonight it will be-29C, and tomorrow will be -32C. Plus it's cloudy.
Great video. Well scripted blending satirical humor and delivering an acceptable product at the conclusion while keeping the folks HPS happy.
4:43 That's f*cking hilarious. On the plus side, your mount looks sturdy enough 😉
Dude I love your videos thank you so much for continuing to post!
Sounds like you've gone star-craving mad!
Groan 😆
As far as puns go, that was stellar
Another great video, I actually LOL' ed a few times. Im on the Sunny Coast and have had nothing but cloudy nights since November.
Crazy right?
You’ve now inspired me to try and capture the sun again. I’ve had a loan of a Lunt Solar Scope now for a while, but have struggled in capturing anything “good”. But I’m now keen to give it another crack. 👍🏼
Not sure why I kept laughing all the way through the video! Maybe I read your tweet this morning and now I am seeing the image. Anyway, you got me some good ideas about the "Del Coronado"! Awesome as always!
Thats gotta be the best sideways to a sponsor Ive ever seen
Dylan, seriously..
the intro is getting louder every video!!
I love it.
Personally I'm fighting with ordering a solar telescope. I currently have a non-Ha filter and the sun seems rather boring. I think what'll push me over the edge is the increased solar activity in a few years! But as always, really, really great video. From ~1000 to ~30,000 subscribers so quickly.
You keep turning it up ;)
OMG you’re so right. You DO have the best comment section on CZcams. Lol. Great Vid Dylan!!!
Hehe it’s true
That beginning was pretty strange. I've never seen Dylan snap like that before. I hope hes ok.
Enjoy your sense of humor... For me it's "Remember, its all about free entertainment"
Thanks Randy :)
I became an amateur solar astronomer in ..... 1963 by projecting an image from my 1.25" refractor .... Now I also have one of these scopes. I was amazed to see you easily slide off the Cx telescope. I can hardly budge it!! I also have a PST.
I figure as I get old I'll just choose a big scope and leave it there.
The most fun astrophotography videos on CZcams 😂
This was hilarious. I watched it twice and had literal tears 🤣
I'm doing solar imaging ATM, hence why I watched your video! Awesome btw. 👌
But, erm, guess what I was doing while sorting out my filters and watching your video! 🍁😆
As a solar photographer, and one who has a PST for quick peeks, I'd say this is a fantastic first attempt, Dylan. Nice job.
Thanks!
I haven’t watched your videos in a few months. I forgot how much I like them.
Thanks :)
When Skies Are Cloudy at Night I Love Solar Observing and Some Bird Watching🔭👍🐦🐦
Wow, I'm impressed with the PST. I've had a Coronado 70 since the 2012 Venus transit and this motivates me to give solar imaging a try. (but not today because its snowing, and I mean the type of snow that makes you cold, not high)
High Point, NJ. Home of High Point Scientific and High Point State Park. It's a ridge along the Shawangunk range with a memorial tower and great views of NY, NJ and PA. Nothing to do with "getting high." :D
Solar astrophotography could be a kind of rehab for alcoholic astronomers... Or the end of the line if you dare to open a beer at 10 am! Great work as always Dylan!
Nice first light with the Coronado!
This was so well crafted I watched it twice then rolled a Camberwell Carrot!
Hehehe
Using a PST requires patience and as it has a sweet spot, sometimes requiring averted viewing. the longer you LOOK THROUGH THE EYEPIECE the more detail you will see. I see filaments, plages, active areas as well as prominence detail. Some of my best "astro-photos" have been taken as single shots (no processing) with a basic holiday style digital camera at full zoom to avoid vignetting.
The Coronado is a cool device. I have ground down my eyepiece sleeve to achieve focus directly.
Regards Andreas
Great video! (Also did you buy a new lens or anything because it looks great)
Thanks :) no I just fluke the right settings sometimes 😆
Keep on blowing the smoke Dylan! Cheers. x
Baked astronomy mountaineering . Could well be an Olympic sport one day !
I’m in
Back in the 1970s I used a Pentax H3 35mm to take a b/w photo of the sun and the Transit of Mercury on a 6" F8 Newtonian scope - no solar filter. The primary mirror was not silvered, so only 4% of the Sun's light made it back to the diagonal mirror and on to the film and the primary focal plane of the telescope..
Thanks, I had wondered what the High in HighPoint Scientific meant!! All cleared up now! Where's my wallet, so I can support this wonderful business?!
Thats Who Ive Used From The Start😂😂😂They Are Great
Love it, great work! Now, get lost you damn clouds!!!
Nice shots of the Sun. I actually laughed out loud when I saw your scope setup in the observatory. The size comparison of the scope to the mount in the observatory is absurd.
Hehe
AS IF I HAD NOT ENOUGH TELESCOPES ON MY WHISHLIST, NOW I NEED A SOLAR ONE TOO...
Anyway, great video as usual !
Solar imaging is kinda cool too, nice video
"Mom...he's scratching his astronomy itch again!" Cheers, CS and GB from -17C South Dakota!
Nice photos man
LOL took a couple hits as I sat down to watch this !! Cheers Man !! plus snow tonight lol
Bahaha!
Great video! 🌞😀
Nice work with tbe PST Dylan. I love my Coronado Ha scope. Look forward to your opinion on the Lunt as I am considering the same scope for travels on the little ioptron mount.
The PST looks too cute on the CGX.
If you need a solar tracking program let me know. I use LuSol guide which is ascom compliant and dedicated to tracking the sun and moon.
It is no longer available for download as he appears to have shut down the site but the last version is solid.
Interesting, thanks! Yeh I’ll let you know if the mystery scope arrives. Seems to have a whole bunch of sweet lunt stacked upgrades and stuff you could never get with the PST too. I’m hoping it doesn’t have the banding either.
That intro killed me
Hello. Can I do digiscoping of the sun with Coronado PST and iPhone plz?
Never thought I'd see you use an eyepiece especially a fancy one like that. Lol I do feel your pain I haven't had telescope out since November.
It was very underwhelming.
That setup was ridiculous 🤣
High Point Scientific is located right next a state park called High Point, which does serve as a dark sky site for some club i can't remember. Sadly only got drunk there.
Dylan I love the titles of your videos and sense of humor 😅
Thanks Will! 🍻
@@DylanODonnell thank you for the great content and motivation to push myself to collect better sets of data and learn to process them into scientific works of art. Although I want to deep dive into this addictive hobby I know nothing with this should be so frustrating that you can’t simply have a beer 🍻 and enjoy the clear skies 🌌.
Edit: I just was gifted a celestron nextstar 130 SLT and saw the rings of Saturn with my own eyeballs 👀 for the first time at the age of 29. I know I need an equatorial mount for long exposure photography but that doesn’t mean I can’t mount my phone to the eyepiece and get some awesome photos of Orion.
"Best comment section on CZcams" Most definitely!
g`day dylan i am surprised you don't have a quark filter they seem to work well .. all i have is the baader solar film for my 8" edge to go on the front of the scope and a small 50 mm one for the finder (to get lined up and tracking)... with the Coronado scope can you pick up the prominences if you over expose the disc... maybe you can explain the differences in the different type of scopes and filters for solar work in another video in the future ...great video as always dylan .. hope this helps the algorithm for ya and helps ya get a new flash mount
what mount are you thinking of getting or are you just going to get a new CGX or get the CGX-L to run the 11" better
cheers
james D
Tempting for a quark! More will be revealed soon :)
Glad to see the mount handled that scope. 😉
It was touch and go
Really cool. Never tried it. I'd probably blow out my retina trying to do it, being half baked here in S Louisiana!
I got ripped once thinking it would be fun to shoot but..... I couldn't remember how to use auto focus etc and so I went in and made a big plate of omelette, biscuits and hash browns to kill it and the went to image. Never again!!! But! After getting on target it was great!! Ha ja
Winter snow in Kingman AZ and is wrecking my beer budget.
That image is insane!!!!!! I’ve been trying to get a good image with a pst for years, and never got anything close to that. But, you’ve convinced me to try again (if I can get my EQ6-R pro out from the garage that is blocked by a snowbank (thanks Canada)). In the past I tried with a dslr, but I’ll try the ZWO294MCpro this time. Worth a shot. Just need the sun to rise more than 20 degrees above the horizon (Canada!!!!)....
It’s not the best .. but some some heavy handed post processing it can work!
That's so funny, I watched it a second time just for the promo. And yes, I am a HighPoint customer in the US. Hmm.
Nice one mate... weather has been S::: here for us... I think the mount might struggle or who know it might even give you an error saying that there is no scope onboard 🤣...
I like doing science and getting high! Dylan, youre the best! :)
Those little PSTs really are a pain, especially when that Ha window starts drifting as they warm up.
Great image of our nearest star ✨ I'm new to astronomy and was interested in doing some solar observing but I only own a Dobsonian. Is it even worth getting a solar filter, or is the aperture (10") too large?
White light filters are pretty boring right now but it will get better closer to maximum. Combined with a solar continuum filter on the camera end you can get great results.
@@DylanODonnell Ok awesome, thanks for the information! 🔭
Hi Dylan. Good stuff as usual. Question: Any particular reason for the ZWO EAF over the Celestron EAF?
I have both :)
Hang in there.... ai got my PST a week *after* the Venus transit. Did I spot some Newton’s rings in your live view... you nailed them well in the final result!
Back in the day (35 or so years ago) I used to project the sun on to a piece cardboard with my dinky 2.5 inch refractor it showed sun spots really well but thats about it. you could set fire to things to depending on where you projected the sun haha. Solar filters are definitly much more impressive though.
I feel your pain. My mount is doing major excursions in RA and I can't take decent images either. Time for a professional hypertune - but in the meantime I've been using my PST as well.
(Oh, and did you just call one of your major sponsors a Ponzi scheme? LOL)
Hehehe good luck with your mount !
what a birthday gift
Dylan be the type of guy who would use his EQ mount to hold his webcam for a Zoom meeting, gotta be extra precise lol.
Nice beer drinking addition to the intro
Hey Dylon. Nice intro to high point... what? How do you clean your OPT? Just with a eyeglass cleaning cloth?
Anti static cloth and my breath. You want to avoid chemicals that can damage any coatings.
I have just stumbled on this video, I have the Coronado PST40 as well, this video came along at the right time as I am trying to get my scope to focus with no success. I have tried with different eyepieces in camera adapters, 2x barlow, even tried the barlow lens on a camera adaptor with no luck.
I have the IMX174 camera which has very simular specs to the ZWO174 I cant get it to focus either. Tried DSLR cannon1300d no luck with that either.
I know this video was put up a few years ago but can you recall how long the adaptor and barlow that you used is? did you use an eyepiece in the adaptor? I have tried all sorts of adaptors, eyepieces, 2x barlows configurations and nothing has worked, I have also noticed that the scope wont focus with a camera connected using the focuser knob.
You made it look too easy, just connect the camera and plug in the comp' and away you go, as if it was that easy for me I would not have bother you. What am I missing?
Cheers Robert Vict'
Try the 2.5x Barlow/powermate .. that was the only thing k needed from memory!
@@DylanODonnell Thanks for getting back, much appreciated. I was fortunate enough to get an other reply through Ice In Space, where they shortened the eyepiece holder, as it is in two parts, and still maintained focus for visual and for camera work. I have yet to try it out because of cloudy weather. Cheers Robert
Epic!!! Coronado on the CGX in a dome... People at my work are looking at me like I have three heads cause I laughed too hard. Back to work! Astro equipment doesn't purchase themselves and I'm going to get fired.
Came for Astrophotography, stayed for the jokes.
Hey Dylan I have the cooled 174mm and 2x power mate but what is the connecting fitting to the camera I cannot get a good view of it.I have a shit of a time focusing the 174 on the PST,cheers
Just the standard drop in end of the powemate.. eyepiece style.
Great video! I love Solar. I live in Tucson, Arizona 15 minutes away from Lunt. They are great. If needed I can stop & show you they do exist. I can probably have Faye from Lunt show me your scope in the assembly area. I hope. Or maybe she’s in Hawaii with your money😝
Haha I have hope !
Your coat is unbuttoned and you're using "firecapture"...I can feel the rage! Clear skies Dylan.
High Point Scientific is located near High Point, N.J. It's a town in New Jersey.
Same here in Brazil, about 8 weeks with no night stars... Be well, Dylan
Can't wait to see if that new scope arrives, the coranado seems a little too zoomed out for any useful detail alas.
Can’t wait !
Thanks for the Video ! All of us out here under Covid Lockdown are desparate for anything Astro related and we wait at out PC's for hours hoping for a new Video . LOL . Sad but true eh ? I see you are using AutoStakkert 2 and not 3 . Any reason ? I see Emil has confirmed a v4 will be released this year . Can't wait . Cheers . /SRK
I heard about that! Yeh looking forward to the update.
Best promo ever 😂😂😂 Shame they only ship to the US. The rest of the video was quite cool too. Good luck with the new scope if it arrives. 🤞
Thankfully, I haven’t lost my sponsorship. 😆
You should try for an ISS pass of the Sun I managed it from my observatory using a Coronado scope using a Point grey grasshopper camera on the iMAC, unfortunately the MAC is nearly dead so I've been unable to try it again although I did manage it using a DMK41 & laptop but it dropped a few frames a higer speed camera would be better I guess.
I’ve done it once :)
Cool stuff mate I've gotta say that picture of the Lunt looks very similar to the Lunt35 I have, well when I say I have my other half has it on permanent loan lol
Saw the entire vidio ,i was just wondering were you were gone and when i saw this vidio i knew you where back
hope that mount of yours works well nice image keep it up and i have a doubt do you use any programming script to give hearts to our vidio since i have not seen any youtuber seeing and commenting and liking people comments hope you have clear skies and yeah everything is meaning less and we are all going to die nice image btw :)
Thanks mate. No script, just an ongoing love affair with my phone.
Oh i noticed it now nice keep up this good hobby up i am just a DSLR astrophotographer on a tripod stay safe and have fun
Have you ever considered solatgraphy? I think it is kinda cool. Also it would be cool if you could put film on a 3d printer tray and magnify the sun onto the film and then draw stuff. Very enjoyable video as usual 😀
The sun is well... The sun!
Dylan, you shouldn't stress your mount like that! i had a PST, worked great then got a Lunt 60, i have an image of a flare taken with the PST and my smartphone that rivals
dudes with expensive cameras. Having lots of time to play with the PST, i was able to really get every drop out of it.
Wow, excellent !
One could aptly name the PST as a Pretty Sad Telescope.....but with that said I have always enjoyed using it....☀️
8 weeks without stars? Yeah, about the same here in Belgium.
And I even just got trolled by the weather today. Beautiful day and then thick clouds just as you are about to start imaging. Classic...
@@Antiath well me too I also live in Belgium! This day was completely fucking clear and the moment it got dark the motherfucking clouds started to role in and now it’s back to permacloud. I did manage to capture Mercury tho!
You mentioned 8 weeks without seeing the stars! It's not so bad here in the northern Illinois I have seen the stars once in the past 3.5 months!!
the mount is thinking Dylan WTF are you on 😃🌟🔭👍
Haha I think you’re right.
My name is Dylan O´Donnell and I need Prozac. (weather driven madness). Great Pic
