  • 3 years with my Rolex explorer. Have my thoughts changed. Is it still true love with this watch. It was once my only watch, but now it has to compete in my collection. Does that mean I feel differently?

Trust me my friend, if you sell that watch you’ll be sorry. This watch is a keeper. It is so nice and perfect for all and any occasions. If you get tired of wearing it, put it on a side for a while and, believe me, you’ll get very exited to wear it again soon or later. This is a great heirloom as well for your kid one day. I did sell two of my Rolex watches about 20 years ago and still feel sorry today about it. As a matter of act I’m thinking of replacing them one day at a cost that will reach about 5 times the price I sold them for (GMT 2 Coca for 3500.- Swiss fr and a Submariner two tones with blue bezel and blue dial for 4200.- Swiss fr.) I did sell them in order to buy a AP Royal Oak that today gain so much value that helps me not feeling too sick about it, luckily. I did promise myself to never sell anymore watches from my collection. The Explorer is a watch that will never be outdated and looks just fantastic

Without even realizing it yourself, your ability to self analyze, facilitates others ability to do the same, as well as making you extremely relatable in their eyes. I got the Explorer 124270 about a year ago and felt very similar to how you felt. It was (and still is) my only $1000+ watch. I wear it every day, and I still love it, but sometimes I find myself wishing for something else. Something a little bigger, a little flashier, with a date window or GMT hand, etc. sometimes I feel like the Explorer is too perfect of a watch, almost to the point of being boring, if that makes sense.
I know this is all ridiculous. It’s an excellent watch that I feel good wearing, even if it’s never noticed by anyone, ever (I’m in LA, so that’s probably a good thing).
I don’t plan to sell it, and I look forward to wearing it in 30 years and still feel like it fits any setting. It always felt like the correct watch to grow old with and pass down - which is what I was going for when I got it.

I really enjoyed your video because your first three years sounds EXACTLY like my first three years. Aside from the Speedmaster, I purchased a Starbucks Sub. Biggest lesson you should take from your experience..wear your watches, enjoy them BUT take care of them! Be mindful of your watch when wearing them. From what I’m hearing, those small scratches added up and in the end taking some of those away made you feel like you got your Explorer back like when you first got it. You can have that everyday just take care of your watches, I put clear protectors on the clasp and sides only because I knew those were spots I’d scratch the most. I absolutely love my Explorer. I’m a big guy so when I heard they were discontinuing the 39mm I went out and got lucky and found one. Thanks for the content and wish you all the best!

In about October 2019 I bought a secondhand 214270 (2109 model) Explorer. I was overwhelmed with the experience and the watch. My parents had died over the same period and left me a little money so I splashed some cash. I got it before they went up and like you wore it every day. It was unbelievably comfy to wear. Silly to say this but when I put it on every morning I sighed with a feeling of relief and comfort. Then rather stupidly about a year later I sold it, they stopped making it and the prices went bonkers. I cannot now afford to rectify the mistake and buy another.
So I switched to Tudor. Partly because I fell for the BB58 and partly because trying to deal with the Rolex AD network is simply impossible. My daily is and has been for a year or more the BB58 silver, the 925 one. I love it and wear it too much. Silver is of course a soft metal and I know it will get bashed. So far it hasn't but I hear horror stories. So in the past year I have looked for a cheaper daily wearer that will look the part and do the job. I failed until this week when I succumbed to my Rolex itch and bought a super clone Submariner Starbucks. Hasn't arrived yet but at the price and apparently from the reviews it will do the job and I won't have to worry about the odd scratch or three.

So I bit the bullet and bought from great market, last year and all. I’m a big guy so I knew the 36mm just wouldn’t work on my wrist. I love it so much I’m considering selling one of my Submariner’s to buy another “unworn” example before they go any higher because when they’re gone they’re gone. I would save my ass off if I were you..then you’ll have a great story and a ever so satisfying feeling when you finally get back your one and only Explorer. I hope you all the best!

This happened to me too. I had an Omega AT and wear it everywhere the first few months and after a while I stop wearing it. I actually re-fell in love with it when I put it on a leather strap. I was wearing a field watch on a leather as my everyday watch. The Omgea AT was on a bracelet. The leather is just more comfortable for everyday use. I also put it on the nato which I can submerge my watch, but my wife liked the leather a lot more since it alot more elegant. My wife like Omega AT by far from my other watches.

Great video, and your choice if you want to polish it. However, Flitz can buff out small scratches and imperfections on stainless steel surfaces so it is mildly abrasive and therefore could remove or polish out some of the brushed finish on the case and bracelet. In my opinion this would not be a good idea. I once tried polishing a small scratch on the polished side of a submariner and made it worse by softening the transition between the brushed and polished surfaces. It ruined my enjoyment of the watch, much more than the scratch which didn’t even notice. I vowed from that day never to attempt any form of polishing on a watch.

However if given only one watch, it would be my vintage Sea Dweller. The other two watch’s have a unique purpose and there beautiful time pieces. However the elapse time Bessel and characteristics of the Sea Dweller offer’s all the little things that make it a keeper. Fortunately I’m never parting with any of the three collectables so I never have to consider selling any of them. This was a watch I wanted as it did seam special to me but with the whole AD and that process of getting one it deterred me away, plus I'm not going to the grey market for it as I don't like owning something that's second hand it has to be brand new. Instead I opted to get myself a Tudor Black bay M79680-0002 41m with a blue dial, dome bezel and that beautiful jubilee bracelet. Now this is a special watch, I would argue it's better than the explorer and looks much sleeker and more beautiful, plus I got it directly and its cheeper costing me £3500. So I'm no longer after an Explorer as I've got an Explorer haha. But I'll mention this there is a watch I've been wanting for a while and it's one that I must get my hands on. The Carter Santos Large White dial, now that's a monstrous watch and one I'll defo get brand new, I guess I'll get back to the grind for this watch haha. And keep up the good work bud!

You are having a questions which you should not have if you understand the nature of your consciousness. When you first bought Explorer, it was huge step up in raising your level of awareness. It happened to me when I bought my first mercedes. The feeling was great. But we are beings who want always more because we tend to grow in consciousness. You maybe outgrew explorer and you just need a new watch as you are not the same person like you were years ago. New watch for new you, but you should know that after 3 years of more expensive Rolex or Patek, you are going to feel probably the same, having second thoughts as your mind will get used to it and will not pay attention to it like you are not paying attention now to old shoes.
It is natural to outgrow things and I think my ultimate point in watch journey will be to not wear any watch.
I m writing you as I have a couple of more expensive rolexes and I recently bought tudor and I am wearing it all the time. But few days ago, I started to think more and more about Rolex 36mm. I just think that Explorer might be the one and only Ultimate Watch ever made by any company.
I hope you will continue to enjoy it in the years to come.

Similar story. I bought the Rolex Explorer in 2009 (I’m 45yo) after lusting after the Submariner for ages (that’s another story). In that moment the Sub felt overwhelming and the Explorer spot on. I wore it everyday for a few years until I got the Explorer II and then the Explorer felt small, and I have 17cm wrists. I can’t sell it but simply don’t wear it (I’ll most likely give it to wife, kids when they get older). Usually I take it when I travel so that I’m forced to wear it for a few days and the appreciation comes back, but if I can swap it for another watch I do.

Good video, man. Glad you re-discovered your Explorer. I always thought I'd love the Explorer before I saw it in real life. I watched countless videos--with beautiful macro shots--and thought, "yup that's the one for me". Then, one of my coworkers picked one up and has been wearing it every day for the past couple of years. I got to handle it a few times and it didn't look as good as it did in those videos. And, I'm not sure why. It was just thing that allowed me to move. In addition, pre-owned Explorers were selling for over $7,500 and rising.
Thankfully, I found my Grail Watch in the 1863 Speedmaster. I've been wearing it regularly for the past 2 years and it is the one.
