I cant believe i am saying this But i think zuccy is correct here. Like Their oculus (meta)headsets are pretty open, its basically running Android under the hood, you can get a dev account and get sideloading working in like 2 minutes with just a type c cable, Virtual desktop(an app on meta's software store) already exists for screen sharing and oculus already has their own screen sharing software in the works. There's no specific need for a Facebook account to get the headset running as well now. Gotta say, it's Android vs iPhone debate again, but this time the company is meta not google
The only exception is that passthrough on the quest 3 is grainy but you get used to it. The quest 3 is genuinely a wonderful, easy to use product and it’s only $500. Apple Vision Pro easily put that price difference in check and showed that the quest 3 can achieve a lot more for less, with some small but obvious caveats. I’m surprised people are taking this as a biased approach but zucchini is right. I can afford a Vision Pro but the quest 3 does way more AND connects to pc’s + allows you to view multiple applications as windows (Vision Pro and Mac connection can’t do this). A few software updates and the ui will be flawless on the quest

Ive bought the quest 3 2 weeks ago and I have to say that the quest 3 is the better value with the extra parts market that exist for it . Also it gives you a better first experience of virtual and mixed reality than other headset.

that's the spot I was in! I was really wanting a reason to buy the vision pro because I wanted to upgrade from my reverb g2. But literally every reason I want a VR headset for, the quest 3 is far better. Connects to PCs, has productivity apps, does hand tracking, it's comfortable, just about the same battery life I think? The image is clear. Only thing I want is the improved displays and eye tracking. Pass through is obviously lacking a bit too, but it's far more usable than I personally need it to be. Having said all that, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Apple steps it up on the vision pro like crazy but we're probably years away from that.

My Son has the Quest 3, and I gotta say, if that little thing can give you 50-60% of what the Apple virsion does, then why spend 7 times the money? I feel it offers more like an infinite percentage more than the AVP, because it has controllers and gaming, the thing I use it for 90% of the time. Weighing less and not having a battery pack and lead, is a big advantage too. I sometimes use a separate battery pack for the Quest, it never feels as good.
It’s the opposite. The Vision Pro can’t even do 50-60% of what the Quest can do. No shared experiences with others. No sharing a virtual object with another person in VR, etc

You're right, Zuck. Something that the Apple Vision Pro does very well that I wish the Quest would be better at is... the interface itself. Quest user interface is limited, confusing, non-intuitive and non-in formative. I wish more could be done to improve the user interface. With that in mind I am excited for what's coming next for Quest. 🎉
I own both and I can agree with zuck. The quest 3 is an insane value for the price compared to Vision Pro. That said the Vision Pro is for the movie watching and productivity usecase. The quest 3 does gaming better in every aspect and still surprises me.

Without controllers, it would only be used for watching movies. You can get a Quest, a kickass $2500 PC, and 700 tacos for the price of one AVP. The Quest can do excellent passthrough video - as long as you do NOT put your hands in front of the Quest. He's not wrong though, for the majority of people, Quest 3 does 80%+ of what the AVP can do at 1/7th price. Buy tacos.
I would do 3 things. 1) I would somehow find a better way for people to integrate it into their lives because right now SSOOOOO many people are just buying it, using it a little and then putting it second-in-mind. 2) I would make it more of a hybrid between the sunglasses and the current version. I still don't want to use it in public and think I would look goofy putting it on anywhere that other people could see me. 3) get inspired by Steve Jobs' design of the Apple Computer by using more colors, optional colors or just skins that could be put over to customize. This might already exist but I'm on a role right now. :)

Having used both, no the Vision Pro isn't better. It's way less comfortable, it does less and it gives you a headache. Quest does everything the Vision Pro does and a whole lot more, for 7 times less money. I don't know how Apple managed to make something 7 times more expensive that has so few areas where it beats the competition. For 7 times the price it should be better in every single way but it just isn't.

@@josb2574 What do you mean by 'connected'? I don't really use it all day long, the main battery plus a couple extra BoboVR batteries is enough for me. Once you can buy more of BoboVR's new, stronger batteries together with their new headstrap (The S3 Pro) you will be able to swap out the batteries and use the Quest 3 pretty much all day. Edit: I guess you mean with the power cable constantly plugged in? Yeah, you can use it as long as you want then.

I don't agree that iPhone won the mobile. Much much more people globally use Android phones, which means that Android ultimately does a way better job at connecting people in the digital age. At the biggest scale, Android won. iPhone is probably the leader of premium phone market in certain countries, but even then the category has other contenders like Samsung, Google phones, and others that often surpass iPhones in quality. iPhone definitely won in status though.

I like the look and feel of using iPhone, so from a experience point of view I agree, but there are many videos online that can show you where the iPhone is functionally worse in an objective way (keyboard, notifications, customization, side loading, custom ROMs, etc.). The main advantage to an iPhone is that most people have one, so all the exclusive walled garden features that make iPhone to iPhone interaction so good is enhanced... That's similar to why Nintendo consoles are great - not because of anything inherently better about them than a PS5 (portability/handheld sure, besides the point), but because you get to play Nintendo games. The exclusivity of experience and ecosystem is what makes iPhones so enjoyable, where Android you basically have to convince people to download certain programs to even get close to the stock Apple experience.

How do you go from 20 million sales over 3 years in the Quest 2, to 1 billion in 16? Hell, they bought up Oculus, and even all of Oculus combined over the last 10+ years is still less than 5% of that goal. Not to mention that the Quest 3 is not doing anywhere near as good as the Quest 2 in sales, only around 2-3 million sales, which is probably mostly people upgrading rather than getting into VR for the first time. Not saying it's impossible, but it's very unlikely what you're stating.

Wait how is Meta "the open model"? It seems like they have gone out of their way to close things off but he's always claiming it's open. Don't get me wrong, Apple will keep you locked in a walled garden, but I don't see Meta's garden walls being all that much less confining. There are other options.
It's very open. There are multiple ways to get things you want on a Quest. Steam VR compatibility, virtual desktop, side quest, app lab (if your a dev trying to make money), there's even a way to get your phone notifications sent to the quest if you so choose. Apple vision basically requires you to already own all apple tech prior to purchase if you want the absolute best experience... for an already $4000 system.. As for other options... no.. not really... this space was dominated by the quest 2 for the past 3 years. So many companies attempted their own quest 2 clones, but meta was just way ahead of the curve. PCVR has some good stuff, but it's not ever breaking out of niche status.

I love it too. Im using Virtual Desktop a lot lately and Big screen VR. It’s a major stress reliever to watch movies on.

I own both and I can agree with zuck. The quest 3 is an insane value for the price compared to Vision Pro. That said the Vision Pro is for the movie watching and productivity usecase. The quest 3 does gaming better in every aspect and still surprises me.

@@paulrevere1479 People with more money than sense always say that. I could get the AVP but it would gather dust. Don't want to use MR for work. Without controllers, it would only be used for watching movies. I prefer a projector for that, as only one person can use the AVP and I'm sure a headset that weighs more than the Quest 3, wouldn't be comfortable for watching a 3 hour movie.

The Quest can do excellent passthrough video - as long as you do NOT put your hands in front of the Quest.
He's not wrong though, for the majority of people, Quest 3 does 80%+ of what the AVP can do at 1/7th price.

I would do 3 things. 1) I would somehow find a better way for people to integrate it into their lives because right now SSOOOOO many people are just buying it, using it a little and then putting it second-in-mind. 2) I would make it more of a hybrid between the sunglasses and the current version. I still don't want to use it in public and think I would look goofy putting it on anywhere that other people could see me. 3) get inspired by Steve Jobs' design of the Apple Computer by using more colors, optional colors or just skins that could be put over to customize. This might already exist but I'm on a role right now. :)

Having used both, no the Vision Pro isn't better. It's way less comfortable, it does less and it gives you a headache. Quest does everything the Vision Pro does and a whole lot more, for 7 times less money.
I don't know how Apple managed to make something 7 times more expensive that has so few areas where it beats the competition. For 7 times the price it should be better in every single way but it just isn't.

@@josb2574 What do you mean by 'connected'? I don't really use it all day long, the main battery plus a couple extra BoboVR batteries is enough for me. Once you can buy more of BoboVR's new, stronger batteries together with their new headstrap (The S3 Pro) you will be able to swap out the batteries and use the Quest 3 pretty much all day.
Edit: I guess you mean with the power cable constantly plugged in? Yeah, you can use it as long as you want then.

The quest 3 at 700 is acceptable and actually has tons of content to play with. Apple beeing apple with their closed eco system. The apple doesn't justify the 4k price tag. To me it should do everything the quest 3 does but way better. There are barely games on the thing. Who can try it?,the thing is damn expensive. And i don't see the 3/4k value in it. i see an expensive gimmick. personally i don't care for it one bit.

I don't agree that iPhone won the mobile. Much much more people globally use Android phones, which means that Android ultimately does a way better job at connecting people in the digital age. At the biggest scale, Android won.
iPhone is probably the leader of premium phone market in certain countries, but even then the category has other contenders like Samsung, Google phones, and others that often surpass iPhones in quality.

agree with everything except eye tacking, hand tracking, and passthrough quality (apple wins those by a mile). It's all going to come down to what content Apple releases in the next year or two. Will definitely be the differentiator. For now, Zuck is right though.
it is the same war as iphone vs android. Apple will focus on making the best of the things that actually matter meanwhile Meta will go down the android's path doing lots of things average at best.
@@blerimdauti4965 Maybe back in the day that was correct, but the Pixel and Samsung are great phones, which more compatibility and functional ease of use than a iPhone. I like the look and feel of using iPhone, so from a experience point of view I agree, but there are many videos online that can show you where the iPhone is functionally worse in an objective way (keyboard, notifications, customization, side loading, custom ROMs, etc.).
The main advantage to an iPhone is that most people have one, so all the exclusive walled garden features that make iPhone to iPhone interaction so good is enhanced... That's similar to why Nintendo consoles are great - not because of anything inherently better about them than a PS5 (portability/handheld sure, besides the point), but because you get to play Nintendo games. The exclusivity of experience and ecosystem is what makes iPhones so enjoyable, where Android you basically have to convince people to download certain programs to even get close to the stock Apple experience.
@@blerimdauti4965 Apple have gone in a different direction with the AVP, offering nothing to gamers, going for crazy people that want to work in MR all day, or watch movies on their own. We will see if they make something that actually competes with the Quest.

Apple has a lot further to go before AVP is a realistic consumer product, meanwhile meta quest is on shelves everywhere right next to the Xbox, PS5, and switch, making it an easy buy as a Christmas/birthday gift.

I actually agree with zuck on this, what the heck. Let's hope he keeps with the "open" idea, attempting to stuff it into some kind of Facebook land would kill Quest.
Meta doesn't have the prestige and preexisting loyalty that Apple does and you can see this in Meta's sharp decline when it seemed like they were attempting to create an ecosystem "metaverse"
meta will have 1 billion people in vr by 2040. apple will capture a small percentage of that. different end goals.

How do you go from 20 million sales over 3 years in the Quest 2, to 1 billion in 16? Hell, they bought up Oculus, and even all of Oculus combined over the last 10+ years is still less than 5% of that goal. Not to mention that the Quest 3 is not doing anywhere near as good as the Quest 2 in sales, only around 2-3 million sales, which is probably mostly people upgrading rather than getting into VR for the first time.

Quest controllers are definitely superior to hand tracking, but to suggest Quest's hand tracking as as good as Vision Pro's is laughable

Wait how is Meta "the open model"? It seems like they have gone out of their way to close things off but he's always claiming it's open. Don't get me wrong, Apple will keep you locked in a walled garden, but I don't see Meta's garden walls being all that much less confining. There are other options.
SideQuest works well. Hopefully, this means they will become more open. It worked for Windows, so might not be a bad idea.
It's very open. There are multiple ways to get things you want on a Quest. Steam VR compatibility, virtual desktop, side quest, app lab (if your a dev trying to make money), there's even a way to get your phone notifications sent to the quest if you so choose.
Apple vision basically requires you to already own all apple tech prior to purchase if you want the absolute best experience... for an already $4000 system..
As for other options... no.. not really... this space was dominated by the quest 2 for the past 3 years. So many companies attempted their own quest 2 clones, but meta was just way ahead of the curve. PCVR has some good stuff, but it's not ever breaking out of niche status.

Fist time I have to agree with Zuck.... I'll still go with the Index but, if I couldn't choose the index, I wouldn't go with Apple Vision Pro... no way in hell.
Mark sounds threatened. His talking about fanboys is odd. I tried the Vision Pro. Any blur is superseded by the quality of the screens. The tracking is better on the Vision Pro. I do prefer the Quest and found the Vision Pros' usefulness to be very limited. Zuckerberg needs to exert confidence by not attacking the competition. It shows fear.
I see it differently, if he feared them, he wouldn't mention the AVP. He seems quite happy to do a direct comparison, probably because the AVP is such a stupid price and is useless for gamers. It will never be an actual competitor, it could be great marketing for the Quest 3.
Fear? Do you know what's attached to literally every AVP review video? A direct comparison to the Meta quest 3. Meta highjacked apples marketing with a cheaper, more open source offering that does 85% of what apples offering does. Apples idea was to make it cool and hip to be into this tech, but meta is actually providing the tech for the public.
