    What most of the people commenting fail to realise is that British humour is sarcasm and mocking people, and the majority of us don't care about being mocked because our humour system is that way.

      Boyan Kafedzhiyski Hmmm, I don't seem to remember someone in the Bible called Albrecht (German) or Adalberto (Italy). So European countries don't really have Christian names. I don't know what kind of humour your country has, but chances are I wouldn't find it funny. This, however, is fucking hysterical.

      The US started it by invading Canada.
      There were territorial gains by both sides (do you remember the part about British troops burning Washington?), At the end, the borders were back were they were before. Technically, as the US invaded and had made no gains at the end, the British won...
      As for WW2: The invasion of Britain had already been cancelled before the raid on Pearl Harbor, let alone any US forces arriving in the UK.

    People need to understand that all humour no matter what country is......humour, some people get it. Some people don't. British humour consists of mockery and such. So does new Zealand's, even though he did mock my national anthem, I didn't feel at all offended because it's a comedic act. He doesn't stand up there to make people feel offended. He stands up there to help people laugh. It's unfortunate that some people take it personally. He wouldn't be allowed up on stage if he was an actual racist.

    • @bbcmotd
      @bbcmotd Před 3 lety

      provate @Imperial Dovahkiin 1. Why 14 years? The anthem was written during WW2 and between that and 1991 there was about 50 years still.
      2. The Soviet Union was not hated. Some people were obviously not happy but the overwhelming majority of people in the USSR loved their homeland and had lived in peace side by side for a centuries.
      3. Not sure which line is "Sing to the Motherland, home of the free", maybe it's "Славься отечество наше свободное" which is "Long live our free motherland". Freedom in Soviet/Russian mentality is not the western "freedom" but having a sovereign nation independent from any foreign power.
      4. While the things you mention are true, the point of the line is that the Party is the strengh of the nation, which isn't false, as that was the force that drove the USSR through the civil war, the industrialization, through winning WW2 and into winning the space race.

      The Irish do the same with their entire national anthem except for the three last words that they all know.
      And I was told by a native Irish speaker from a 'Gaeltacht' that those who do know the words aren't pronouncing half of them right at all because schools don't teach the correct sounds for the language!

    I don't mind him completely missing the point of the American anthem. It was part of the bit. The only part that disappointed me was that there was so much room for comedy with a more accurate interpretation. I mean, the whole point of the anthem is basically, "Suck it English navy. You didn't manage to get the job done, did you?" I was kind of expecting a joke about how ungrateful we were after the British went through all the trouble and expense to keep things lit up so that we could admire that flag we were so obsessed with.
