How to get Better at Mario Kart: • FULL Beginner Guide | ...
Bagging: waiting near last place for good items (bullet bill, shock/lightning, star, golden mushroom, mushrooms) and using them to make a comeback. This lets you get to 10 coins and stay away from attack items, and you can potentially dodge the shock or do item smuggling.

Your videos made me realize that Mario Kart is a lot more complex than I ever thought. Never even knew about hidden stats and I’ve been playing MK since Wii.
He actually got me playing Mario Kart again
To my knowledge, Wii doesn’t have any hidden stats, unless “how high your vehicle flies off of ramps” counts as a stat. Bullet bike would have a very high stat there 😂

and I had never heard of bagging until shortcat

I can get frustrated too, but that's usually when I keep making mistakes. If somebody else hits me, that's just a part of the game. and it's up to me to try and avoid getting hit, or learn to make better comebacks!

Discovered Shortcat maybe 3 days ago and I have been bingewatching his videos several hours daily since. Ive owned a switch for 4 years but never owned Mario Kart 8 (on this console OR Wii U). Watching shortcat has inspired me to actually purchase the game and get good at it. Every video I learn something new about the game.

This has been suggested a few times. I feel like it's just less interesting to race without shortcuts, or at least that's how i imagine it going. Or it would just become me trying to do frontrunning the whole time. I'll think more about this one!

Curious if you have a video along the same lines of this already but I used to play local races with only up to 4 players present, no AI and all items were Frantic? to promote 'fairness'. Is the Item AI still loaded for those in the back or is frontrunning tracks the best option in those janky types of matches? I haven't actually played in years but it'd be neat to know
a general rule of thumb for bullet extensions is they seem to commonly be in areas with gaps in them

You should try shock bagging; although not important in FFA sitiations its fun, more challenging, and in a team environment can save races. It's a complex art often overlooked in its game.
That Music Park Bullet pull was one of the most MK8DX moments of all time lol. Pulling a bullet right before an extension, in a place that normally does not get a bullet, all because the frontrunners were so far ahead of the pack.

Bagging is Mario Kart’s version of American gambling. Risking all your time and money (VR) for more money (VR) and it’s hard to do legally (win) in most states (tracks)

You should SERIOUSLY consider making a guide showing off all of the best bullet extensions in the game, as basically no one has made a video like that, (somehow) and it'd be extremely helpful for everyone in the MK8DX community!!
You should add a "How I BAG" or "How to BAG" to the title!! I was super thrilled to find out this was a how to, and I definitely would've clicked on it faster if I saw a how!

DUMB QUESTION but do all the tactics he uses apply just as much to single player as well? i want to get all the gold parts for my little sister on her switch. so far yoshi teddy has been helping me through 150cc but i’m not sure how single player is in terms of rubber banding or AI (track/item) knowledge/aggressiveness
