I like the detial of how the old couple can openly talk about their sons death and have fond memories despite him dying. Showcasing the ability to move on.
On top of that, they also did not push back on the offer of selling the toy. They were okay with someone else finding new enjoyment with it.

Yeah it was super funny but my fav part is actually when he teaches the amazing moral of this story.
Dear Sr pelo. How are you. I am thomas. Whenever you have the time, please keep making more funny animations. We all like them. Signed thomas
and this is y creator's don't comment often cuz you people just hound them instead of being like hey ben a wile good to see your still with us
This hit way too close to home for me. This was (somewhat still is?) me for a LONG time. I grew up poor and disabled, had 70 surgeries by the time I was 25 (38 now and at like 84), and while I always liked nostalgia, it didn't hit the breaking point until I became disabled at like 28 and couldn't leave my house for very long for like 10 years.
I was stuck in our "gameroom", which just turned into my sanctuary, so I filled it with things that reminded me of the past or things that I felt made me happy. But it got to the point where sections of the room were blocked off due to so much crap and my walls were all completely covered with fan art or large comic pictures.
At the end of last year, we moved to another state so I could get away from the extreme heat of the south and to go somewhere where marijuana was legal (I got to the point where I was abusing my pain meds because they barely worked due to my body being on medications my entire life.)
It's been like a completely different life here. The marijuana takes away most of my pain most days, and I can't actually go outside again to the point my wife and I been going on hiking trails or to the waterfront a couple times a week. I still have really rough mornings, and some days where I can't get off the couch, but I've gotten another chance at life.
I still have my "man cave", but it's much more organized and only a fraction of what I did have up. The rest of my collection is in storage and I've been slowly selling it off.
As someone else said, sometimes life is just hard and breaks you to the point where you want to escape into a world of your own making.
@GeekExtremist I’m glad you found peace man… I struggle with hoarding too. I have been through a lot of traumatic loss. My grandparents are gone (even tho that’s expected they were like a second set of parents), my mom unexpectedly died when I was 15, my older brother was hit & killed by a train… I hoard shit to fulfill that gaping spiritual wound in my heart. I struggle to throw away something as silly as a tang/iced tea pitcher my mom had when it broke… when it’s just another piece of plastic polluting this world. I don’t need it. I have memories, her writings, & paintings… but I have trouble discerning what to throw out & keep when the line is greyer (old mail to my mom from 2003, grocery lists she wrote, etc)… I’m in the process of purging my room because it got too cluttered, & despite making some significant progress I have an extremely hard time throwing some stuff out or donating it. 😔 ik a lot of people may look at people like you & I as unkept & messy, but I just want you to know that I understand your struggle bro… not with your physical disabilities but your hoarding issues I understand how toxic it can be & how much of a big step it was for you to do what you did… as the professor dude Jordan Peterson (if you dunno him you should look him up) said; “your room reflects your mind”… & he’s absolutely 💯 on that.
& also, congrats on getting away from opioids too… I was self medicating with fentanyl & methamphetamine for a while, & I made the step to get medical help & get on suboxone & prescription amphetamines like adderall/vyvanse… I’d smoke weed too but unfortunately I’m on supervised release with the Feds. Don’t listen to anyone who tells you you’re not really in recovery if you use cannabis. Addiction is kinda misunderstood even in AA/NA… we use because we are medicating ourselves, & you switched to a safer & non addictive alternative instead of going down the road of opioid use… society & the government heavily discriminate against opioid users & because of that it’s easy to get into a shit ton of legal issues & put yourself in danger by using unregulated substances laced with unknown amounts of fentanyl, xylazine, or toxic cutting agents. my friend almost died once because her dope was laced with arsenic & she smoked it. I wish you the best life bro don’t ever doubt yourself✌🏻💯😁‼️
I'm glad that your syndrome-kinda thing is almost down, but damn, 10 years of gameroom? I'd go insane. W for your sanity
It’s good to have some balance in life.Find some more trails get some bikes. When you get going you will feel better
I can sympathize aswell, hope you're all getting better, even if it's baby steps.
My advice is.. "Noone can help you but you, don't rely on a superhero to save you and make the right decisions for you, it's not gonna happen. start small, by yourself and be your own hero"
It might sound obvious but it took me 20 years to figure out that self pity wasn't helping my situation at all and getting up to make daily improvements. Made my monumental tasks seem lighter and lighter.
"You don't have to see the whole staircase just take the first step" MLK I believe..
Hope you're fine bro ❤ 😎👌🏼 Thanks for sharing a bit of your life!

It's easy, because the "Real world" hurts. plus, what exactly is "Real" anyway? life is what we make of it. if someone finds happiness in Collecting, Video games, Movies, whatever.. then why shit on that? its better than putting all your happiness into someone else. they'll just cheat on you once they know you can't live without them. or break up with you. or you'll find out about something they've done and break up with them. if you put all your time and effort into a Job, that job will crumble one way or another.. or you'll become sick of it. nothing is forever, everything sucks, we're all dust in the wind. make the best of the time you've got. or don't. we're all gonna die and be forgotten regardless.

This episode completely illustrates why i always felt grossed out by people using nostalgia as an excuse to exert themselves or deny pain. We can never move on by thinking and living simpler times, it may hurt but we have to confront our pains and face the reasons we lay around and do nothing all day. For me it was being denied that i was in pain, being abused and forced to stay in contact with my abuser for the majority of my life, it hurt too much so i just sat down and played games all day, but eventually i broke my cycle and confronted the abuse, cut off those who hurt me, and moved on. I am now literally making rockets.
Such a beautiful ending. Melvin knows that he can never recapture the feeling of his crab, but he can keep his shell as a happy memory of the times they had together. 😢
It looks like he saved the miserable goldfish too and gave him some friends 🥹
@@summer8941 and this is the essence of moving forward. Such a beautiful message
I never thought I’d see the day where MeatCanyon would bring me to tears, but here we are.
Saving crab's "home" was coping mechanism for Melvin.
I like how it ended with Melvin keeping the fish tank in Saving the fish that was dying from the beginning to now living happy with other fish friends and he kept the shell of the crab as a centerpiece of the bottom of his fish tank🥹
“This is not goodbye, for we were never welcome.” Holy shit that’s a good line.

Im going to echo a lot of the praise that Papa Meat has gotten from this. We all laugh at the parodies of celebrities and youtubers on this channel. But when the mirror is shined on us, it burns bright. Only difference is that a lot of us using our past hobbies to drown out the pain of the past and present, havent learned to accept the reality. This perfectly symbolizes that. Thanks Papa Meat for this. Hopefully, I can learn to embrace new hobbies that dont rely on "membaberries" to keep the pain subsided.
I think it also creates a distinction between hobby versus unhealthy obsession. Melvin doesn't give up pet ownership or become an ascetic removed from possessions, he gets a goldfish in remembrance of how he enjoyed taking care of his hermit crab. In contrast the collectors were escaping from accepting pain through continuous meaningless purchases. I still have some nostalgic items from my childhood and I love watching new movies and such, but life also means trying out new things as well.
It's so funny how all Melvin episodes are half horror, half wholesome 😅
Jeremiah’s biggest mistake was entrusting his life’s work to someone he just met.
Ikr lmao
WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU WON'T DIE FOR US?! WE WENT SHOPPING TOGETHER!!!
Damn, this had a real good message. Fantasy is fun casually but you should never hide from reality with it. Life is hard ships but it’s worth living.
Its a delusion to whitewash your childhood memories for only the escape of insular, fleeting pleasures. Chasing such a fantasy isn't even a beautiful one removed from all the grey & freakishness that gives substance to life. Even Melvin's mom was convulsing when she handed him his pancakes. What was going on before she got there?
Never let your personality become product.
she despised him
I resonate with that.
Didn't he hide from reality by killing them all and denying it?
@@ihavenonameforyou1? He didn't kill them, Jeremiah did.
I love how even in complete darkness, Melvin still finds ways and learn to overcome his traumas and depression. It’s kinda heart warming

Tbh I think I needed this. I never saw this video till now but I really needed to see this.
3 years ago I lost my only brother and I dove head first into the nostalgia of the 90s. It made me feel at peace, thinking of the memories of when we were kids and the feelings that came with it. It got so bad I was spending majority of my funds to this addiction and only putting money away for bills.
This was a wake up call for me. I need to look forward, I need to stop looking back
I literally was discussing nostalgia with my wife and how I’ve come to realize that nostalgia has been weaponized against a few generations. From funko pop to shows like stranger things. It’s a wake up call a lot of us need. It’s corporations attacking us financially and mentally. It’s quite disgusting. Thank you and GREAT animation as usual
He saved the goldfish! That's so wholesome, giving the poor thing a proper home and friends after probably months or years of neglect

I like how this episode doesn’t insult people for collecting, and more just shows the aspect of people just using it to get rid of all their pain
Yep, that’s good that it makes that distinction as you should be able to collect what you like, but not use it as a means of escape from the pain.
Well, the last comment by Melvin was quite an insulting summary of what MC thinks of them.
Btw the feeling of escapism can happen also with other addictions in general.
Gotta hand it to the team. Definitely came from a personal place.
Melvin is not criticising collecting items that remind you of good times. It's criticising BURYING yourself in nostalgia, to DISTRACT yourself from your current infirmities. That's what he means by becoming stagnant.
The fact you couldn't see that is telling.
@@phaolo6 Literally no. He was talking about the 4 specific people in the room who were willing to kill themselves to escape every problem and pain.
There were no attacks at genuine collectors. That's just you seeing a character talk about the current scene and then just making up your own stuff

Dealing with your problems is good lol putting a bandage on them like Melvin was trying to do is how you end up with a pile of unresolved issues and depression/anxiety to the point that you think you are no longer a functioning member of society 🫥
@@scottbrigner6950 The only reason you want to deal with your problems or be a functioning member of society is because you think that will make you happy. How is that any better? Normally in shorts like this, there's some kind of horror twist ending where nobody wins, but this is a breath of fresh air. There's always a wholesome ending with a valuable lesson for Melvin, no matter how fucked up the world around him is.
Edit: Just realized on a second watch that Melvin saved the fish from the collector's room and gave it a better home , gatdayum my heart.
I mean he was crying at the end of episode 1
But then again he dodged a bullet cuz that girl was messed up

fancy seeing you here
I kinda saw that the crab is Melvin getting out of his shell while the fish being trapped in a small tank symbolize the collectors Melvin giving them a new home kinda symbolizes how he did kill them but if he didn’t he never woulda set they’re souls free n they would have been living in pain trapped inside the computer just like the fish are trapped inside a tank
Like the hermit crab stops attacking Melvin when he was holding up the game that his mom got mad at him for playing leisure suit Larry which I think does symbolize him getting out of his shell but when he buys all the games the store manager turns into the crab symbolizing he’s going back into the shell
This might be the absolute best video I have ever seen on CZcams and I saw it at a time I desperately needed to. Thank you for creating it.

Nostalgia eventually betrays you. You can only spend so long on killing the noise in your head instead of sitting with the feelings and thoughts. Before you realize, the things you used to enjoy don't feel as good anymore. The noise comes back because while you were hiding from it, it only grew worse. You look at yourself in the mirror with disgust but can't stop neglecting your mental health because you've always been like this, and it is easier to be miserable than it is to make a change.

As a hoarder who literally just finished buying new wallpaper and a slimmer wardrobe to force myself to gut my room, this plunges coldly straight into my heart.
So what next? Sell the stuff?

the sheer amount of references in the room is overwhelming
8:41 wasn’t expecting a TF2 reference
Was not expecting such a real ending. This was a better ending than most TV shows or movies I've seen lately. Grieving and saying goodbye is a part of life, we have to accept that and move on. We can't stay trapped in the past. This was actually beautiful, thanks for this.
A wise man once said to me: "To step into what will be you must step out of what once was."
Can I be real for sec, this is like the best episode ever. To show the effect of nostalgic escapism and comfort through these characters is awesome storytelling. Good job PapaMeat.
Started weird and funny like your flashgiz videos, then had a suprising deep meaning. Love it!

There it is, everybody! There's the titular Meat Canyon itself! Right there, plain to see! We found it, everyone! We found the Meat Canyon!
YES! A NEW MELVINS MACABRE EPISODE!

EXACTLY YAYYY
Shell of his pet represents acceptance of the loss and the good memories with it. Four goldfish are the collectors symbolically, their goldfish memory a metaphor for the constant search of novelty at the loss of accepting complex reality. Whole episode packed with fantastic and subtle symbolism. This is story telling with so much depth it is beautiful.
I didn’t think about it like that
Fantastic analysis!
this is by far the most entertaining and captivating cartoon of yours that I have ever watched. ITS SO INTERESTING. I have watched so many of your videos but this one just feels really well done and passionate. AMAZING WORK
Amazing episode. Definitely one of the best!!!
There is an enormous parallel between Melvin and the elderly, they accepted that even though their son is no longer here, they remember him for what was in his life and continue on their path, while Melvin is horrified by the thought of the death of his pet. and temporarily blocks it. Impressive, also the references and cameos that they adorn to give weight to each one's nostalgia. And clearly Melvin will have to drill 4 holes for those geeks
I love you man. I always did 👍
pfffff I see wacha did there
Probably the most significant animation MeatCanyon has made
I’m a collector for physical media now but I’m definitely not that bad 😂

I used to retro collect when I was a teen. Back when a PS2 game was ten dollars at a cd exchange. The last thing I bought was Pokémon crystal on gba. And honestly I think I am done too. What I enjoyed the most was playing these games with my brother or friends. So now I’ll just emulate a game or two when I have some free time. Good work meat canyon. Your videos always inspire and make my day. ❤
I recently lost my kitten, and i gotta say, that scene where Melvin remembers the happy moments with his crab hit me hard.
I bet you were a great owner and you took care of the cat with much love. Cat had an amazing life and loved you too he or she couldn't have ask for better person :)
@@cyborcreations3044 thank you, i hope he's now in a better place
Ikr this scene unexpectedly made me cry
I hope your cat is in a better place now, I'm very sorry for you.
@@ZmaniacSuperRealOmg thank you ❤
Wow, this was a life changing video for me. I’ve been chasing that nostalgia recently with a coping mechanism of losing my brother and growing older.
This was a perspective that I needed to see, showing the main character almost getting sucked in but realizing there’s more to life.
Thank you.
Hit the gym, start that upward spiral!
I’m so diet for your loss
I’m sorry for you lost 😞. Try talking to someone , someone that you trust and journaling . Find a way to live for your brother . A life he would be proud of 😊
What does the gym have to do with it?@@julianplayzgames

My favorite thing about Meatcanyon is that he isn't afraid to show the bad side of things. Far from it, actually. He shows us the bad and awful parts we may or may not want to accept. Sure, we can try to forget about it, but we never fully will.
This is beautiful. I’ve always been creeped out by collectors like that. I mean there’s collecting and then there’s those type of people. Being stuck like that is no good. Thank you!
I like how no matter how horrifying Meatcanyon animations, there's always a hidden morale in them
"hidden"
hidden? behind what?
it didnt feel hidden for me. This one was kind on the nose to be honest.
it wasn't hidden at all.
moral, you ///
This meant something to me. If you keep running away from all of your problems, and ignoring pain, you never grow, and you never overcome your fears. You become addicted to the nostalgia, and it negatively affects your mental health. And when a pet dies, it’s like your family member dying all over again. Except you blame yourself, and the pet that was a placeholder for your loved one is also gone, just like your loved one. Nice job Papa Meat.
it's like paranoia agent
Let’s say, a pet is part of family tbh, hands down I love my pet just as I love a member of family
@@cockeshi898no, animals are not humans. Loving your pets is fine, it’s wonderful. But Trying to equate them to human life is unhealthy, if for nothing else, because they have such a short lifespan and no capacity to reciprocate the same intellectual feelings.
This feels like something that South Park would make like seriously, this was South Park humor
Animals are better than humans while some humans are worse than rabid wild animals you have no idea what you are talking about, as we humans don't deserve them@@FIightmedic
10:54 Makes me so sad.
Ehhh!!! Muy impresionante, sos un capo MC! Hace rato no veia tu contenido pero me alegro verlo
I hate that no one is giving credit to the 1-2 second scenes of the collector's room full of nostalgic toys at 0:53 - 1:02. Those were really well drawn scenes just to be only seen for a couple of seconds.
I wonder if Papa meat is gonna do a video where he points out all the pop culture refs
the Shining rug was pretty good
it was pretty cool to see
The Wendigoon plush was pretty awesome
Liandra from Mass Effect, oh the memories of a simpler time.
This really hits home with me. Between drinking and collecting. I went through a shit ton of trauma after high-school and not knowing what to do. Let alone with having a dead father. Hunter seriously knows how to show people their demons in silly ways.
I’m still dealing with demons today. But thankfully I got through the collection phase. I’m trying to relieve stress and trauma with a pet turtle and aquatic animal care.
With the way the episode ended felt fulfilling.
Edit: thank you for the comments, I’m still facing demons. But just to be clear, I’m not alone, I do have support. And I my turtle is fine, she’s not suffering at the hands of my own selfishness. She’s living better than me, outside of not being free in a pond. But she’s invasive, so I’m doing good anyways.
I utilize art and aquatic care as my way to clear those negative thoughts.
Just find your thing. And video games isn’t one of them. Idk how many times MK1 had me cursing screaming and thinking I was as useless as my combo skills were.
Just thanks everyone.
Hang in there.
I feel you! Mom died and I mentally went to shit. Hang in there and know tomorrow we get to try again.
@@RonnieMcfloydUTTPAww, I'm happy this random man has so much impact on your life, where you now dedicate your time to making comments and videos. I hope one day I too can waste time in such a matter as yourself. 🤗
"Pet turtle and aquatic animal care."
Insane that this isn't even the second time I've heard stories like this. But it's nice. Good luck. I hope you and your turtle are okay.
As long as you find a way to deal that isn't drugs or booze. That shit may numb the pain a bit, but can cost you your life and/or whatever remains of your sanity. Collecting can be expensive, but at least it won't kill you.
Dam that video is legendary, the mental battles with reality. How easily one can go down the path the other four guys went. Meat canyon y’all are getting crazy with these stories! I also loved the ending with the goldfish having a new home with friends/family and the shell 🐚 “Don’t be sad it’s over, be happy it happened”. I like to think about the happy memories I had with my animal companions and happy they were part of my life.
We lost someone last year very much like these men.
An Artist, He was only 36 years old.
In his last moments he didn't want to leave this earth he wanted to live but his body lost the fight.
After his death his room mate/best friend gave away his own very large personal collection of comics, figurines and memorabilia.
At first it seemed like he was trying to erase the memories of their home and friendship alltogether but in reality..
His best friend didn't get to live the life he deserved.
And now he is determined to live his own with meaning.
He will never give up.
He is living his life to the fullest to honor himself and his best friend in Valhalla.
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

As an adult I collect horror related stuff, movies, action figures, movie posters etc. I love it. I don’t plan to stop it’s something that I truly enjoy. But this video resonated with me loudly. Kinda shining a light on the unhealthy side of collecting. For example the impulse to spend money on “stuff” when I’ve had a bad day just to make myself feel better. Can be a black hole all in itself.
Incredible video!
Ironically I really want a Melvin plushie now😂
