    IMO I have found that getting the premium version of boards vs the normal boards is not only not worth the money, not only that in my experience I have found that I have preferred the normal version over the premium by a mile, and my friends agreed. I own 10 snowboards and have ridden more then I can count.
    I have owned the capita DOA for 6 years, ended up buying the Super DOA with high hopes! Didn’t even feel like the same board, ended up riding my normal DOA, sold the super doa to a buddy who also loved his DOA and told him what I thought, after a year he also sold the super doa.
    Also have owned the orca since the 3rd gen, tried the apex orca, couldn’t tell a difference maybe a tiny bit faster base but as I live in alaska and everything is super steep, speed isn’t an issue. After researching have found that lots of pros even prefer the basic versions of boards over these “premium versions” I’m convinced it’s just marketing and a money grab.
    I also own the golden orca, bought it the day it released and love that thing, it’s not for the faint of heart that’s for sure, it’s made for real riders and to be ridden hard, first board I’ve rode that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to find it’s limits. Can’t remember what the golden orca cost, but I just don’t see it possible that the apex golden is much better to justify $1300..
    That being said since you own both now, would love to hear your thoughts on it after you’ve put some time on it. And would love to hear other people thoughts on these premium versions of boards vs the regular versions… I also own a capita Mercury, looked at the super Mercury but after the super doa failure I’m very skeptical.

      Very interesting, I think it can depend on the board and brand if it's worth it. If there is a considerable difference in weight between a normal and premium and the price difference is not a concern to the buyer I think it can be good. Myself and friends have had the opposite experience with the DOA vs Super DOA from what you've had. The Mega Merc is one board I've ridden the most and it has been hands down one of my favorite boards, although it does feel like a much different board than the Mercury

      I totally agree. Every premium board is stiffer, lighter, more expensive and ultimately different to the base model. I’d take a premium version of the Gnu Hypercarve though, would love that board if it was stiffer. Stay rad.

      Did you ride the normal Orca? How is it different from the Golden?

      Interesting take that I agree somewhat with in terms of a money grab. I think the majority of riders will never tell the difference. That said, I absolutely love my Capita Super DOA, love the weight difference, and feel like I will never hit its limits.

    That is an interesting board. The camber profile almost doesn't need a diagram it's so aggressive and visible.

    Hey Shane, interesting review. You put some intermissions in between which might cause some viewers to think the review is over. I was thinking that at least and was surprised it kept going on (twice after each intermission, especially the second one).

    I about lost my jaw when you said the price. I use to be a mervin manufacturing die hard but was pissed when they dropped Nicolaus muller. I now ride a Salomon assassin pro and love it.

      Pricey for sure but not the most expensive board out there. I love the Assassin pro too

      If you haven’t tried out the capita Mercury, you should prob do that. Or the neversummer protosynthesis

      GNU still use his last shape under a different name.
      And if you are pissed that Mervin dropped Nico, I suggest you read up as to why. This will further explain why he was dropped by ALL his sponsors. A sad story, as we lost coverage of one of the greatest riders ever to do it.

    • @SearchofSnowboarding
      @SearchofSnowboarding  Před 11 měsíci +2

      It's like the difference between the Orca and the Golden Orca, both Apexs are premium build outs of the originals

      Golden apex orca = directional twin.
      Apex orca = directional.
      They are very different. I own both.

    Yo Shane.
    Having ridden it would you say that it’s 20% lighter than the Golden? And is it as light and a similar ride the the mega merc? But with mag?
    I guess what I’m saying is, is it worth the extra cash? Iv got the regular golden from a couple of seasons ago?
    Peace 🏂

      @SearchofSnowboarding  Před 11 měsíci

      What up dude. It's noticeably lighter than the Mega Merc and just slightly lighter than the Golden. It's a pretty different ride than the Mega Merc because of the c2 profile and the width, but will ride powder better. This Apex is a pretty sick board, I think it would be worth it if the extra $500 wouldn't be a worry on your wallet. Boards are meant to be used and abused, so if you'd be stressing about such a nice board when you're riding it maybe not worth the mental worry.

      I have both Goldens and both versions of the orca's. The carbon in both apex models are definitely snappier but requires a bit more effort to access the snap. Both regular versions of golden and orca are definitely damper and soak up bumps and vibrations better. But the apex's carbon construction make them so much more lively and responsive, that they're so much more fun to ride. Honestly if you're just cruising around and having fun get the regular build orca or golden. But if u plan to ride hard most of the time the apex's are what u want. They make me ride harder but reward you with higher and farther pops and more locked in feeling on edge

    • @DoyleAK
      @DoyleAK Před 10 měsíci +2

      @@mikemackenzie3305 I own the orca and golden orca. Live in alaska and ride 50+ times a year, I ride the golden hard and if your saying the apex version doesn’t eat up chatter as much as the regular version, that’s a huge issue. A big part in being able to ride the golden hard is the ability to eat up chatter hence being able to ride it super fast to hit huge features and go big, this bosrd imo is meant to send, not ride casually.
      Also would you say the the apex versions are harder to load up vs the regular? Or since you said snappier is it easier to load up and send?
      I have friends that used to be pros, a few are very good riders. I just don’t see 99% of people needing more then the golden orca offers. Often find people searching for a board to improve their riding.. when truly great riders can kill it on almost any board as long as it’s not gutless. I have a buddy with no money riding a 10 year old $400 board, I can count on 1 hand the number of people I’ve seen on the mountain that are on his level, a lot of time those dudes are riding some old board, a full camber dc from 10 years ago, dudes name is “Brett moody” YT him. Ide bet the house y’all aren’t on his level. The board don’t make the rider.

    • @mikemackenzie3305
      @mikemackenzie3305 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @doyle3883 the apex versions definitely take more effort to engage the pop and are definitely stiffer the the regular versions. But once you do they snap alot harder. The apex versions also aren't nearly as damp, you feel everything rough. Where they come ahead are at much faster speeds like 40+ mph. I'd never have bought an of the apex's if I didn't get hooked up through a mervin rep. Honestly the reg golden is my daily. It just does everything I need and it's so predictable
