if you are so worried about your base just turn of structure damage
I just want to know WHY does it matter if the water freezes over? Does the build destroy itself if the water freezes or something? whats it matter
check out tagback tv he has a log duplication glitch
To reduce the amount of logs used for suppots, look at the section of the book labeled struts. It shows you how to do it.
@@TexanWolverineif it refreezes enemies can walk straight into your base 😅
i thought i was slick living next to the water and only having half a wall because of the lake.. then it started freezing
Yep but if you don't leave the area, the water won't freeze over 😉 or you can use it to expand the build more 😅
I built a cabin on an island and thought I was safe forever! I wake up in the middle of winter and one of those massive red guys is just slowly walking toward me across the frozen lake 😭
Still kinda fun. Protected for 3/4 of the time and makes things spicy for the other 1/4
Game of thrones style. I was in trouble once it froze over. The freaks got to me
@@dutchenterprises4289 I built on the little rock in the middle of water near the stun baton, they just jump over the water.
I just hope that the devs will add more structures and implement new features really soon. We need doors and gates that can be locked, stone structures. Stone should be also used for wall reinforcement, more traps and more types of furniture, ladders.
I'm sure they will especially as we can cut out holes in the floors.
And traps and also they should add a reason to want to play the game
@@TotalXclipse We can WHAT? Why don't I know that
Why do people purchase early access games then try and get the devs to rush the product?
@@MrSnake9419 i missed the rushing part, what are you on about lol? They are giving ideas.
the fact you’ve already figured out how to do this is incredible! looking forward to seeing more sotf builds from you
this is crazy! Me and my buddy literally started a water base last night after figuring out that putting logs in the water rather than building off land. Awesome build!
This helped me a lot. Thank you Sir. Just an update from having done this now; the frozen water literally vanished out from under me and was replaced by normal water when the time came. So staying in the area no longer makes a difference. When you're out of time, you're out of time.
FYI - you can build in deep water i.e. lake and sea (where you are made to swim) all year round. You just have to build out from land and use stairs/step to get closer to the sea/lake bed to stop swimming triggering.
There is zero fresh water in the sea to refill your canteen, hence why running water near your base that comes from inland is very essential to your survival
I’ve tried that but my game keeps glitching and I’ll go to throw up the support beam and swim mid animation and just throw my log in the water. Is there a trick to it?
@@gerrickwhisenant5331 no the building is very clunky at the moment hope they will update it In the next update
@@mistikarain you can build in the sea where a river is nearby. Just make a zip line to the river to get water quickly.
@@darrenlee2775 Early game? Not really.
Nice work man. I love your videos, they are so chill.
Have over 1500 logs in my island base. My wife and I have been skipping logs across the water. I was not aware of zip line trick. I will be getting zip line today to hopefully finish our build. Thank you.
Reminders me so much of the build styles used in Valheim.
Very nicely done 👍👍
To create the support you need without a ton of vertical supports is to to use half log pieces on the far ends of each row, which creates struts. You place them where your vertical support end caps meet the horizontal tops. You need all the vertical pillars in before you can place the struts, but once the struts are in you can pull all of the vertical supports (except for the two vertical supports at each end of a row). Kinda hard to explain but what’s you understand it it’s super easy
Yeh I figured that out once I hit the roof section 😅
You can also skip the struts and only have parallel logs if you place each beam then pick up any middle beams after the horizontal row is placed.
@@keepironman14 It is not as structurally sound in winter if you are under attack. The struts help to strengthen the entire beam so it does not break as easily.
@MistikaRain true, but it's a quick build up option that can be built onto later..
I agree with both of you. It’s especially unnecessary if you’re playing with building destruction off but I personally don’t mind spending a few extra half logs just because it boosts the immersion for me. It just feels more believable with the struts in. But technically it’s not an early priority, especially with structure destruction disabled
You can reduce the supports by doing corner bracing underneath the crossmembers. You can do 1/2 or 1/4 logs for the bracings
i need a how to video
Another great video and thanks to sharing all these construtions ideas with the community.
Greetings from Canada.-
the winter scenery and water flowing is so crazy beautiful 😍
The solution for the winter problem is a unique river spot, that is like a little lake. It does not freeze and you can build your base on the water
i think thats the only lake that does not freeze in winter
@@rohitmeshram1412 yes cause its just a part of the river with a strong stream. And no other River has such a spot
Where is this river located? Can you share a screenshot?
@@woodysimoh It’s near the modern axe location if you just walk to the rivers near the modern axe location you’ll find a big river with a waterfall and that’s the one that doesn’t freeze.
@@woodysimoh there is a guide out from someone, he called it something with "how to build a save house on water". You can see the river and how to build the base on it.
Beautiful build! ❤
OMG, how I did not think of this!... Great video.
Looks good... Can't wait to see the inside build.
Beautiful build! :)
For water that doesn't freeze, you can now get around the build issue in deeper water by throwing loads of rocks down to the bit you prop the angled log up from. Only works for water that's up to like 4-5 feet too deep but gets around some tricky spots where the animation fails and you end up swimming. (You prop the log up while standing on the rocks)
I find it so impressive how people work out how to build like this.
I can not sus it all out
Very awesome build TotalXclipse! Now if you make a treehouse build like this with zipline access that would be amazing!
I'll see what I can do 😅
@@TotalXclipseAwesome!!!! I would totally build that if you could get a good starting point.
Beautiful build!
cool build i did one off the side of the mountain last night. glad to see people using the zipline
i hope we get a way to close up the gables
You can, just face the way you want to go! ☺️
@@Mysterion12 You can close up the gables by using cut logs they cut into many more small pieces so keep your littler log pieces stacked nearby so you can fill in the gables.
@@mistikarain wtf is a gable
This is what i did yesterday with my base lol i was wondering if i could build on winter with the lake frozen and give it a try and Viola it let me have the base and now i saw this video and immediately said.. did he did what i did? Lol and yup hehe great vid btw
I'm curious how you got the stairs going into the water. I can't seem to get it to work myself. At 3:30 before you do the zipline the stairs arent there, but when you see that section again at about 4:40 the stairs are there, but no word on how you did it. I can only put a vertical pillar up, or lay a horizontal beam ontop of my floor, but not put an angled piece down into the water.
Nice! Interested in seeing you use this as a base to see how it handles in actual regular game play, especially against big "raids". Maybe we can get a follow-up on general improvements you've made to the base for quality of life after using it for a while!
Tempted to do exactly that!
This looks great!
I felt so smart once I built on a frozen lake. Specially the one with the large waterfall. With the cave entrance, but is a small cave it leads to nowhere. It's at a higher elevation than the large flat runway with the damaged plane.
I kinda wish there was more detail in building. I’d love to follow along. This is going to be a challenge to accomplish XD
To be honest thou I hate how many supports is needed to build something big. Kinda defeats the purpose. I hope they change it in the future so large creations would be functional. Maybe a new type of item craft that lets you create a beam from 20 logs or something 😊
Damnit endnight! We need BEAMS!!
Nice video!
Use angels in the joints where the wall and beam meet and you can then remove the center poles holding them up.
Damn, this was great.
Cutting logs to length is easier if you plonk them upright into the ground first.
7:27 in the video, i can't stack logs vertically without the logs being cut like you placed them with the roof in the way. i've tried following everything you said and i can't get the straight stack without the logs being cut and not fitting properly. any advice?
i guess to be more specific you said you managed to sus the apex roof by removing most of the section below it, and i'm confused the steps and what exactly you removed to be able to stack the roof as i mentioned in the previous comment
Came here for this same reason
You've 1 more to your subscriber goal👍👍
RAD BUILD DUDE 🤘🤘
Any attack party's from the natives ?
This build was in peaceful mode as I was planning on doing a different guide. I am looking forward to building a base in the water though for my playthrough!
@@TotalXclipse
I'm looking forward to seeing that.
Good luck, they can cause havoc on builds.
Quick tip: you don't need a full grid to make a floor, you can use half of the logs by only running one truss across the floor per grid on either x or y
You'll need at least one horizontal piece if you're doing it when the water is back as you can struggle to place the floors otherwise
Can you build the whole house while on the ice or just the foundation than wait for the thaw to continue?
have you had logs disappear or despawn? especially using ziplines?
sick
Ill be doing this, yeah the winters can get invaded, but whatever haha
WTF, what a build!
kinda knew it works this way - lets hope they never change anything about it^^
I was so excited to build a house extension above water in the winter... But then I found out my lake doesn't freeze over in the winter lmao... I hope they add water building as a feature.
The reason it didn't freeze over is because you're In the area - if you leave the area it should freeze ☺️
@@TotalXclipse I tried that too but it didn't work! It seems that the lake I built by just doesn't freeze, there is a waterfall close to it (but the water is definitely large enough to be considered a lake in real life). Thank you for the advice regardless :)
Awesome build! Would love to see how you continue to work on this build!
There is still a bug when you place a log horizontally on the ground, then lift it up on one side with another log, sometime the vertical log vanishes.
I think with this you can even build completely floating bases as well.
Congratulations on reaching the 100k subs! And thank you for the great videos!
I need help at 7:32 my logs are getting cut, I cant place them without loosing a quarter log
how did you build the stairs in the water? i really want a way to go from the water instantly on the base without a bridge
Can I put half of log upright on ice and then put logs on them? It will not be destroyed when the winter end?
I really wish you would’ve taken time to show the steps you took to make this build. I would like to make something similar. I am a novice. I love your program you are used it to listen to. I need to make things simple.
I love how the ice freezes during the winter though so you’re never safe
How did you get your stairs in the middle to go down all the way? 5:46
You sure can build on the ocean. I made my base on it. Very tricky and needs lot of patience, also going to lose a sh*t ton of logs trying, but it's possible.
You can put defensive walls across the ice and they stay come spring, ready for next winter
That was my first thought, build a base on ice! and before you know it, winter was gone and it stayed up
When I was building my own lake island base during the winter I was terrified that my bridge would get destroyed when the Ice melted 😂
Hi where did u build this thank u
I trust you in satisfactory thus I will do so too in sons of the forest.
So to build I need it to be winter darn. Well I did learn one thing, use a pre made and shove it in the middle of the pond by the forest crash spawn.
simple fix if yiou get to the second winter add a wall have one around the lake then one around the house
and the water base superiority returns.
The lakes with two or three inlets are some of the best building locations. Why? You can cut logs upstream and it will carry them downstream. Protection from multiple sides if you build between two rivers and a lake. Access to fresh water and fish. Build bases near, at or on these lakes people.
Use the wood glitch for faster wood. You also get to keep the forest
We can use zipline to transport logs?! So cool!
Amazing! Has this been patched or still feasible?
Is there a way to build supports/ columns on the bottom on the non frozen lake? Everytime i try I fall in and drop my logs
Nope - which is why this is the only way currently to effectively build a base on deep water
hi there, does the structure have to be connected to land in order for it to work / not collapse?
Nope, it doesn't need to be connected at all
Pretty cool but do you get any benefit for making that house?
Until Winter arrived...building distruction off xD
How did you add the stairs going into the water? I've made my own base on the larger lake with the island in the middle, but I can't figure out how to do that.
I added the supports after the lake thawd, I was surprised the water was shallow enough for it
Aw, that stinks. Guess I’ll have to make do with ropes sticking into the lake.
I also found that cannibals don’t cross rope bridges if you don’t complete them fully. Truth be told I’m not sure they do either way but they don’t attack mine either
this is dope. i built in the same spot except up the hill a bit. ill definitely be extending over the water now when winter comes
how did you make the steps leading into the water?
same question
Can Kelvin and Virgina access the base as well?
I wonder if you'll ever make a video about scum. Another survival game with an actually pretty cool building system :D
I'd be tempted to but I think I missed the boat on getting content put when it was first released
@@TotalXclipse Mhm I see :)
I need to say I love your way of designing stuff and the combination of optics and functionality. I like Satisfactory and enjoy every moment of it but I don't have the passion you do to bring it to the next level. Hence I truly respect your skills and like your Satisfactory videos the best :D
Take care o/
This is really cool. Shame it's most likely an oversight and will be patched.. but I hope not
Edit: omg you can send logs down the zip line? Where has this information been?! Subbed.
Havent download this game yet but i have 1 question. Does this game have that worm-like flying mutant?
06:04 You dont want that tortoise in the water
subbed, hoping to see more build tip videos!
How did you place logs deep in the water?
i now i want to build a house boat!
Supports are mandatory?
It’s better if it freezes I’ve because you can build on the ice, when it turns spring and you leave the area it turns back to water
i can not get the wall between the two front roofs to work for me any suggestions?
Same
wait what, how do you build those ramps on the roof with logs behind them laying flat wall style??? 7:33
Build the ramps then build the wall up
@@TotalXclipse my roof doesn’t have the option you had it has the option of just filling in the triangle and not the whole wall
congrats on 100k!
Amazing until the lake freezes haha
It's still amazing even with the frozen lake, no? Like yeah... with it frozen the baddies can walk right up to it and attack it... but that's only like 1/3rd of the game. The rest of the time you have full protection.
I was wondering if you could use the old method of stepping stones but I guess the game doesn’t let you
so when its winter the canibals just walk up to ya XD
If you watch the end of the video you'll see the lake doesn't freeze over providing you stay in the area ;)
@@TotalXclipse 11:00 looks kinda frozen to me bud
Impenetrable? Yeah that's what people thought in The Forest until John came along!
I've just download this game yesterday, so can Kelvin use the zipline?
You can reduce the supports by adding top corner angled pieces on the top edge of logs, and then remove the middle supports. Cut a log into quarters, and look at the top corners and you can place them. The original would look like this: |--|--|, and afterwards its this |------|
Found this out once I hit the roof section 😅
You've got to hand it to those cannibals, they put in the leg work. They've got skin in the game, etc.
Very cool. Thanks for sharing.
Just build in the shallow oceanside. Bad boys won't leave the sand.
100% full year round safety.
Problem is it's pretty far from all the useful stuff 😅
@@TotalXclipse For now...with the game set to have updates, if/when they add a log sled it'll make oceanside bases 10x easier.
The zipline is very useful
I've built my base on that very lake.
this is nice 🍸🗿
*When you chop all the trees down and burn to melt the water* lol
Build on ice, or go to the island lake, and build there.
