Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs: The best Bluegrass Band ever!
The best Bluegrass Band ever assembled! They were the band that had it all, from top to bottom!!!!!
Earl Scruggs, Wow!
my Dad was raised in Statesville NC...my grandparents were share croppers back then...he used to tell me he grew up around Earl Scruggs...said they used to go fishing together as boys...I found an old black and white picture of Flatt and Scruggs...had it framed and gave it to him and he cried over it for a while...he told me Earl used to carry an old banjo with him everywhere...
These gentlemen are such fantastic musicians- beyond compare!
I wish I could have grown up during that time. I know an older guy who used to go to Earls shows with his father when he was a boy. I just wish I could have heard Earl play in person just one time…
That's so awesome man, my family is from Statesville and surrounding, an dim blessed to grow up with these guys as well

Fantabulous.!!.
Boys and girls, in my opinion it just doesn't get much better than this. Each one of them masters of their instrument. The absolute finest to my ears.
This is a treasure. It’s interesting to see how they are accustomed to sharing a single microphone, constantly rearranging themselves on the stage without missing a beat.
Branson.MO,,was magical .
Makes me wanna sip some shine.
Earl Scruggs was the master!
THE WAY, ITS DONE !!
Goodness they were at the top of their game. Every TV appearance is a lesson in master class. Perfect execution and the mic captures a great band in great form with astonishing clarity.
This stuff really puts a smile on my face!!
The best blue grass to ever witness
Love how they rotate playing to the mike. It's like a sort of square dance. What an act!
There was the banjo before Earl and the banjo after Earl. The man truly revolutionized it. They played with Bill Monroe, they were there at the beginning of the bluegrass sound.
Earl smiling!!!!!
Winners and still champions!
Yes!! Great comment!!
HOT DAMN!!!
Yessss, oh HELL yes!!
The Darlins brought me here
The best of the best, been my favorites since I was a kid and the king of the Bango can't never be beat
Bango is a great thing
👏👏👏🙌
These guys are to this genre as Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, and Jerry Reed were to finger style guitar - legendary and set the standard for the future. Timeless. Still sounds terrific.
And here is the Flat and Scruggs of today - fantastic and respectful tribute band czcams.com/video/ZgrepQr6Ljg/video.html&ab_channel=RounderRecords

Wonderful!!
Ah, real music
The "breakdown" between the two vocal numbers is called Earl's Breakdown. It introduced the "retuning" on the fly. The banjo he is playing was modified to have the tuners added to the headstock. Today you simply buy a tuning peg that has been designed to allow you to twist the pegs a specified distance. That way you don't have to drill more holes in your headstock for the shims he uses to retune the strings.
Called Scruggs tuners. I think Earl patented them.
When he first developed and used them he had a contraption over the head of his banjo to hide it until he could get it patented.
Toe tapping st its finest
Wonderful
Outstanding! Thanks very much.
I'm off to your channel right now to check out the whole show! thanks a bunch for sharing this, I had never seen this clip before and thought I had seen them all! thanks again!

Anyone who loves country music don't even want to go to the Grand Ole Opry anymore, just like George Jones said then call that music anything they want to but don't call the country cuz it ain't
Lester Flat and Earl Scruggs, introduced bluegrass music to the world.
Earl sure didn't let Curley take many mandolin breaks.
I've never seen this before now. Does anyone know if this is from the Revlon Revue show? Thanks a heap for posting this!
Hi,
Yes, the show was sponsored by Revlon. You can find the whole show which includes Revlon commercial breaks on my channel. The show was called 'Folk Sound U.S.A'
OK, I will check it out. Again Many Thanks for posting this great footage!
Thanks for posting this - saw it once at the Paley Center years ago!
Would this be defined as the definition of Bluegrass?
Is that Jethro on the mandolin?
Where’s Steve Martin? 😉👍🏼
😃
A bit of choreography involved to get to that one mic.
That Choreography is amazing. They were forced to develop it because they usually performed at places like high school gymnasiums or fellowship halls. One mic was all that was available.
Today, sound engineers can mic the sound of your dandruff falling, which is why so many bluegrass singers today don't know how to project their voices. Back in the day, the singer had to "rare back & holler!"
That's a part of the magic....
