In japan where crime rate used to be very low, especially in such places where Shohei grew up, or in the traditinal household, we trust each other completely, so Shohei wanted just to focus oh his job with Ippei, thus leaving him access to Shoheis accout. In Japan, its not unusual. But he will be careful to protect his life from now on.

I think Shohei has pro supporting team, considering varies on his activities. Unfortunate event he experienced is commonly happen. Ippei as insider used his (Shohei) trust and role as 'liason' to manipulate things for "his benefit". Ippei might has his own background, but his deed can't be justified.

For those that keep asking how do you not notice millions missing...let me tell you how. Ohtani doesn't have just one bank account at the local credit union. He has multiple personal and business accounts at several international financial institutions.
He has many endorsements that pay him in installments. There's a lot of money moving around all the time.
If you -- a regular person -- have $500 spread out over multiple bank accounts, would you notice right away if $5 go missing? Probably not.
If large corporations and government agencies with hundreds of lawyers and accountants get swindled for millions all the time, how hard would it be to steal from a guy who (a) doesn't care about money, (b) sleeps 13 hours a day, and (c) only thinks about baseball?
Not very difficult. Ippei would have probably been able to keep this up for years if he hadn't gambled with the wrong bookie.

  • @tothemax1517
    @tothemax1517 Před 2 měsíci +63

This actually makes more sense now. Coming from a family of immigrants myself, I know how common it is for immigrants who don't understand english to have some coordinator be a middle-man and give that person access to almost everything, including bank information. I'm sure it's especially difficult for someone with so much money to only want to give access to one person who they really trust, and that way, at the very least, if something goes wrong, you know who to point the finger to. If Ippei was acting as like a chief of staff for Ohtani, all of this makes sense. Ippei himself told media before that translating constitutes 10% of his actual work for Ohtani. Of course, Ohtani has more work to do to clarity the situation, but so far, that seems like a likely scenario. You also have to understand the context in Japanese culture, where men usually work for the family and live on an allowance provided by their parents when they’re single and their wives when they’re married. It’s very common for men to have zero handling of their finances. (Don’t believe me, ask literally anyone with substantive knowledge in Japanese culture.) In a foreign land, it would make sense that he had his closest confidante since 2013 handle it.
Let’s also remember that if he was actually involved, as some seem to believe, it doesn’t make sense to implicate Ippei in a theft instead of just that he helped pay off Ippei’s debt-that would mean a higher sentence for Ippei, which makes it less likely for him to “take the fall” for this illegal gambling scheme, and would involve stricter investigations into Ohtani himself.

@@CAsaidit 100% agree. but people forget that Shohei was also only 23 when he moved to the US and could not read or speak English that well so it made sense for him to find someone to help him navigate the US banking and tax system (that is already complicated even if you speak/read English)... in retrospect he probably should have found an accountant/lawyer. It also makes sense he felt more comfortable with relying on someone he trusted and knew already from Japan.

Ohtani is not the type of person who would get into gambling. He is not interested in spending money and dislikes flashy things.
He grew up in a small town that has many rice fields where there are hardly any amusements or stores.
His wife carries a $50 Zara purse still nowadays!!! His wife is also a classy, sporty woman who wears minimal makeup or no makeup at all and no body-conscious dress!
The only reason he drives a Porsche is because it's his sponsor, and the car was given to him for free. He has to drive that for advertisement purposes.
His parents refused when Shohei offered to remodel their house, and his sister and brother refused when Shohei offered to buy a house for them, saying that they don't want to use Shohei's money.
Shohei truly believes in karma and started picking up trash on the ground, believing that doing something good would bring good luck to him. He has been doing that since he was in high school.
Shohei is a humble and good-hearted Japanese person. There is really no way he would get into gambling.

No matter what kind of explanation Ohtani provides, those who are not convinced will never be convinced. Proving one's innocence is extremely difficult, and what people are seeking is not "logical understanding" but "emotional satisfaction." So, no matter what is said, it won't resolve the issue. The question remains why Mizuhara was able to access Ohtani's account, but it's not necessarily the case that Ohtani knows the answer. Unless Ohtani had delegated partial or full management of the account, if it was accessed through some illicit means, asking Ohtani won't yield any answers.

If that's the case, it makes sense to entrust it to him. In Ohtani's busy schedule, Mr. Ippei serves as a substitute and manages the account, using it for sending donations to disaster-stricken areas and purchasing gloves for young baseball players, among other things.

Dodgers just coming to Ohtani's rescue anyone who believes otherwise is a fool, the interpreter is just an employee there is no way he would have access to Ohtani's bank account(s) I would understand it if his agent was embezzling money from Ohtani that is a completely different story!

You do not understand the Japanese culture and how an interpreter could be more than just an employee but could be entrusted with much more especially that Shohei needed his assistance in the daily life due to language.

@@msr7827 Lol I understand perfectly the real question is the 700 million dollar emphasis. Understanding when you get caught doing something, you pin the fall guy and you sway politics like playing dices just like the Dodgers did and they have to save their new star and I don't have to understand Japanese culture that is just a fact if you choose to look at it or not!

I wonder how Mizuhara was able to send this large amount of money several times without the identity verification.
If the bank allowed to send this large amount of money without the identity verification, there is no wonder even if they should also take a responsibility for the lack of their security.
In my opinion, Mizuhara made the debts by gambling and Ootani was begged by Mizuhara and he sent money.
