How to Correctly Turkey Hunt Smaller Properties

  • So lets face it, not everyone can turkey
    hunt on hundreds of acres.
Not everyone can afford or as the chance
to go out of state where you can roam
and makes a lot of mistakes during
    a hunting season.
If most your turkey season is
hunting a small piece of property,
don't give up, if there's turkeys there
then you have just as good of a chance
to kill a gobbler than anyone.
However, there are things you have to
do differently since you can't be
    walking and locating Gobblers.

I hunt a small property and have learned to stay put. Sometimes listening and watching is more important than calling. Years ago I had two toms gobbling back at me at sun up. They were with hens. I was set up at the bottom of a ridge, looking out into a farm field. After a couple hours of nothing, I decided to move to the top of the ridge. After a short midday nap, I woke up to see the two toms strutting in the exact spot I was that morning. I never did get either of those birds, but I learned a lot.

Keep putting out these awesome videos. This was one I really needed when I first started turkey hunting. I screwed up my small pieces by trying to hunt like the “Bone Collectors” lol. You’ve taught me real turkey hunting the last couple years I’ll have to say.

This is a great point Brother Dale, I've got a little 7 acre hardwood ridge in TN. Its definitely a honey hole, 6 huge longbeards have came off it in 4 years.
My personal biggest gobbler 24.32, as well as my first double beard. So to my fellow hunter's, don't sleep on small properties they could be something special!
God Bless you my Brother & God Bless all my fellow hunter's, stay safe everyone!

Hit the like button gents. Dale bring back the intro in your videos where you do a touch of turkey talk, and then blast one and start that music up...

  • @dicksonnfriendsoutdoors2715

I'm just going to extend the offer to have you come hunt my 100 acres in monticello, ga. It's what we call the highway because it's long and narrow, creek runs through the middle then meets a pond before running out the back and ridges on both sides. It's great for all animals.

It’s all true. He knows what he’s talking about. Also, just because you don’t hear a gobble on that small piece of property doesn’t mean the Tom’s not there.

Amen brother. I got one to. It’s about 25 acres. Long walk around the beaver pond. But it’s worth it. 75 percent of the time. Big hard wood ridge. Slip in around the pond it’s thick brush. Pop out go about 15 yards to my favorite turkey hunting tree. Never move. Sit there for hours. Pull them off the farm land on the other side. 👍

I have one of these areas. Open Land too. I have seen 5 other Turkey Hunters from time to time. One is an older guy in his late 60s who hunts out of his Deer Treestand and stays right there.
Then there are 2 pairs of guys who hunt together over there and not often.
Then there is Cynthia and me. So 6 total and ,I am not In there alot.

  • @johnwhoissavedbygrace9975

hey brother, good advice. Any particular tips for someone with 5 acres of heavily wooded space thats almost butting up to state game land? Foot plots are hard, but theres a water source and tons of ticks. You think I should try to make it into a place that theyd like to brood or roost? thanks
