Do you have a Shimano system?
Or course :P
Sure do but its In Sydney at the moment awaiting a warranty claim
Yes, E-8000 series.
Yamaha
Just got it ep-8
Thanks for yet another very informative and interesting review. I have a Fezzari Wire Peak Pro on order which has the Shimano EP8 motor. Can't wait to get it!
The Bosch overun as you call it has saved my arse going up some gnarly hills so many times and if you are almost stuck in climbing over a rock for example the motor senses this and helps you get going again. I personally like both of these features. I haven't ridden with the EP8 yet and would like to via the Merida E One Sixty.
I used to have a Bosch gen. 4 and switched to shimano.
On the bike with the Bosch motor, every Bosch part was not well designed: Display too exposed, rattling noises, battery holder and locked was just bad design, the crank arm kept getting loose.
Bosch never again.
I am very happy with my shimano.
same rattling with shimano, unless you made downgrade to old E8000. battery locking and cranks need to be adjusted with pro mechanic. KIOX display is really exposed, but there are custom mounts for it. Purion display is really not so good, this is the only true complaint. And Bosch is definitely more reliable!
Hi Team, Always worth listening too... I ride the Orbea Rise M-Team and love it, learning about the tuning based on Elevation. After speaking to Shimano NZ the Link glide isn't for the high end emtb's. It is more an entry level to middle system. Chain wear doesn't seem to be as much of an issue for a high cadience rider. I'm slowly educating customers on that topic... Have you guy done a long term test on the same bike to show customers the difference on how well the gears last?
make an item about the bosch tour + mode i want to know what it is !
Not a bad motor setup
I use a Bafang mid mount bolt on motor, lots more choices of display styles, choices of volts, torque and wattage, can be serviced at home with a little knowledge and affordable considering what you get
ÂŁ409 gets the full kit, minus battery
I went for the 36v, 500w because I'm a rebel and a cheap scate haha
Helpful
I would be interested in your settings of the motor. I changed mine to need more rider input but deliver more max torque. Any tips here?
Wondering if you guys can test the mid drive and hub drive bafang conversion kit for ebike budget
Is there a way to change WALKMODE speed from 4km/h to lower value for EP8?
How can you connect your EP8 to your Garmin Watch?
Would love to have data like my Cadence for the ride.
Iâve got the DU-EP800 (EP8) with the SC-EM800 Display with Sw-EM800L âswitchâ would love to be able to connect it to my Garmin Forerunner 945.
How do I jailbreak my ep8. It limits my downhill speed by adding resistance. Starting around 18mph. I go faster then that on my non- e-bikes.
CustomizeâŠ.I own 250 Acres of private hill property on the Appalachian. Can I disable the limiter? Iâm tired of having to pay somebody to do that for me a bike shops telling me they wonât service the bike while itâs unlocked. I sold my Levo because of that.
I habe a Canyon Neuron On 7, wich Adapter i need to charge the Batterie Aline? Thx Gerald
"So because it hass less power, it's better"
*Jeremy Clarckson gets a heart attack*
does the 5000 series display offer any kind of connectivity for the ETube app?
thanks for the informative movie :D E7000 here
Please talk more about the walk assist
Don't dislike the EP8 and don't even notice the rattle. When it does rattles I'm normally concentrating. But! I haven't not seen any great advantage over the E8000, other than a little bottom bracket clearance. I had a play about with the EP8 setting when I first had it thought it was a bit of faff, just used to leave the E8000 in the middle settings and that suited me fine. My mate has my old bike with the E8000 and 500w battery and it lasts about the same as the EP8's 635w, I am a little heavier which may be the difference. Not fussed with the new app, that you have to put personal details in. I think I'm a good peddler but notice when the going gets steep, the lads who are not as good peddlers are going passed me with their Brose powered bikes. Maybe I can't be bothered with the tech I just want to ride my ebike.
Totally disagree regarding battery life, i have to save on my 500wh e8000 battery when riding with a buddy thats got EP8 625wh. And i`m both lighter weight, and better fit than him. I believe they are very close on battery usage, and the 625 definently outlast the 500 without doubt.
(Ive got two batteries, and both are in good shape, so nothing wrong there)
I have sc e5003 display do you know if it is Bluetooth not sure how to connect to my phone
I donât understand the apparent reluctance to stand up on e mtbâs? If you need to lean on those pedals you have to âŠ. So therefor I donât get the rather short frame sizes esp on climes. Maybe itâs just me
Ps good work from the valleys btw. Love the channel đ
Whatâs your thoughts on 155m crank arms đ€đ»
I'd say, 155 meters is bit too long
@@mikec3405 yeh, prob 0.17m work fine. But 155m way too long
I have 150mm on my Husqvarna MC7. Works great
Shimano Bikes got good power
Cheers buddy, one question Iâve a spectral with an EP8, I canât seem to connect it to my phone it seems not to have the Bluetooth. Iâve watched your other video and I just canât get it to appear in the screen any ideas?
Iâm also in the same boat and would love to know if itâs possible.
Do you have the e tube app running and searching for a bike before switching on the bike itself? Thatâs how I do it one mine and works with iPhone 12 :)
Bluetooth discovery activates for 10 seconds once the power is turned on. Have your app open before turning the bike on then hit search once powered.
The best display is the EW-EN100
Have just purchased a bike with the EP8 motor, I find I get resistance what feels like the motor dragging/braking once you pass the max speed limit ?
Hi Ian, all E-Bikes have a small bit of drag once you pass the legal limiter, almost all of the newer systems have a lot less drag in comparison to motors a few years back. Did you have an E-Bike before?
@@embn Thanks for the reply. No first Ebike but have ridden a Brose motor of which I felt didnât have the same issue. Itâs difficult to explain on some occasions I feel no real drag at all but the majority of the time it feels as if the motor is applying the rear brake! It may just take some getting used to. đ€·đ»ââïž
Hi I've got a 2018 ebike with a brose motor and yes you always get a bit of resistance when you go over limit just a normal thing
I have a Yamaha sytem in my 2021 trance. when I first got it (6 months ago ) I did notice the drag, but as I got fitter I don't notice it as much now. when new I would get approx 40k per charge, after 6 months im now up to 120k per charge and now ride with the motor off on slight inclines, flats and down hill, not getting any drag from the system, which has a big affect on range. ultimately im looking to see if I can get to the max km quoted by giant of 180km. In my system the dragging I felt was just the motor assist cutting out making me use my legs to maintain the speed at 25k, which at the time I could not do, this felt like the bike resisting my efforts, ie dragging, when in fact it was just my fitness.
I need to do some more real world testing, Iâve access to a bike with Shimano E8000 motor of which Iâll compare against. (EP8 36% less drag apparently)
have two bikes with Shimano motors and they only give me trouble. On both bikes had to change the motor already. After 400 km on the one and after 2000 km on the other bike. Also disappointed with the warranty handling of Shimano. Shimano - never again. Oh and btw both bikes error E010 which is the torque sensor in the motor and can't be repaired. Reliability for me is most important and Shimano could't convince me
I have two Yamaha/Giant 2020 bikes, 5600 km in total, ridden by a strong rider, ZERO (0) issues. Only replaced chain a few times.
@ Friend of mine has an ebike rental on Tenerife. Giant bikes and is happy with it as well. Yamaha seems to be sturdy
Fully agree
Were your motors EP8s?
I've had 2 ep8 motors and covered 600 miles on one with zero problems.
The EP8 makes horrible rattling noises that are really annoying. I have seen that on 3 different bikes, then searched the internet and found lots of complaints. One of the guys contacted the bike manufacturer and the answer he got was very bold, as they said it is a feature of the EP8 and they can't do anything about it. Not nice after spending 7 grand for the bike.
I call bulshit
I've been riding the ep8 for a year now and have not experienced the rattle ive heard on videos and I mostly ride chunky tech where that wouldstand out immediately. But have ridden with two people who also have ep8 motors, and can hear the rattle when I'm in front of them on a chunky downhill run. Sounds like they are in my lap its so loud on one of them. My only complaint is, the over run cuts out and puts a lot of drag on the system that feels alot like downshifting on an automatic transmission.
Not necessarily a bad thing but does take some "tuning into" to keep from interfering with ride at wrong moment.
@@shannonhoyle7432 Have been riding an EP8 for more than 12 months and havent heard any engine rattling. Mine is much quieter than a mates Focus ,with the Bosch motor .But he has a longer lasting 630 battery. Love the EP8 motor with no complaints except for the short lived 504 battery. Would certainly have that motor on the next ebike!
It needs a sneaky button to turn of the government restriction lock down mode after 25k's
This channel is getting commercialized to highest level
Hey Egon, Just so you know this video wasn't paid for in any way by Shimano. It's part of a short series where we look at the most common systems, up next is the Bosch đ
I have to agree it could be more diverse. however the guys are quite clear about there partner brands and at the end of the day that's what supports the channel, so there going to push them. Having said that, I do believe if Shimano or specialized or much off, park tools, Husq. etc etc etc were to come out with a poor product I think EMBN are impartial enough to say so
@@embn sure, it was paid by Canyon :)
The new firmware transformed my bike!
Yep ep 8 torque on 9
My Ep8 lasted 110 miles đ
All motors are too loud
Not much information presented.
I would avoid Shimano completely, they force you to replace the entire motor instead of a plastic gear worth about 20p. They are already overpriced and then they want the kind of mark up El Chapo would be jealous of to do a basic repair. Shame, they have a good history but this is a huge scam and probably done entirely on purpose. I expect these will be failing in their thousands in a few years after the 2 year warranty, I got one that failed after a few hundred miles!
So much waffle on these embn videos. Perhaps think about launching less frequently so you have more to talk about, or keep them shorter.
One thing I have learnt about the EP8 over the last 2 years is that itâs an absolute piece of đ© itâs not fit for purpose in the the uk avoid at all costs!!!!
Boring boring boring
More E-doctrination. Get yourself a real mtb. And really? Do you need asistance with walking? Seriously?
Yes most definitely. I am 62 and if I get stuck going up hill I am too knackered to push a tank of a an e-bike up to the top. Possibly ok if you can afford a mega bucks carbon one, but the cheaper end are terribly heavy to push.
@@seankearney6915 Yep...I got you. Was speaking of young guys.
