The building with the clock is the famous Wrigley Building. The building with the angled, diamond shape top is the Crain Communications Building. Thanks for filming. Miss it being 7K miles away.
I have been to Chicago many times. And the most touristy thing I love to do is take the architectural boat tour! It’s a lot of fun for the money. And you become very knowledgeable about the city and its history. I would highly recommend it.
The story of the reversal of the flow of the Chicago River is very interesting. Also, the Eastland disaster on that river. Dave Matthew's bus dropped a load of waste through the grates on one of the bridges and it fell onto a tour boat. My godfather lived in one of Marina Towers, the circular corn cob buildings. April 23 marks 20 years since Wilco released Yankee Hotel Foxtrot featuring Marina Towers on the cover.
I live in Chicago and remember, when returning home from visiting my sister in Phoenix in November and about to land, a flight attendant saying Chicago just looks grey. He was absolutely right. We make a point of visiting sunny Orlando in November every year!
The gap along the sidewalk, or crack as you described it is an expansion joint. Most of downtown Chicago has multiple street levels, the entire city was raised up in the late 1900's, buildings and everything, to build sewers and to lift the downtown area far enough above the river to avoid flooding. The expansion joint is there to allow the elevated structures to flex a little when temperatures fluctuant up and down.
I might add, the Chicago Tribune tower has rocks from all over the world cemented in the face of the building (I think they're on the lower floors if I remember right) :)
*The Chicago Centennial Wheel is 200 ft tall. It's also the tallest Ferris Wheel on a Pier. LOL! The tallest Ferris Wheel in the US is the "High Roller" Ferris Wheel at 550 ft tall. It's the 2nd tallest Ferris Wheel in the world and the tallest in the Americas. (The London Eye is 443 ft in comparison) Chicago is also the birthplace of the very first-ever "official" Ferris Wheel. It was also the first mega-sized Ferris Wheel at a whopping 264 ft. (It also featured the first Thomas Eddison Light Bulbs as the Wheel was built for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition)* *Yes, Chicago had it first. Also, the Ferris Wheel in Branson Missouri was the former Navy Pier Wheel. It's 150 ft tall. So the current Chicago Centennial wheel is taller and climate-controlled, unlike the Branson Wheel.* 🎡 *Chicago by the way is also the railroad capital of North America. All tracks in the continent lead to Chicago. Chicago is the center of the world's largest railroad network.* 🚂 😎
1979 movie Hunter starring Steve McQueen has a car driving off Marina Tower into the river. Thanks for posting my hometown Chicago and all it's beauty.
Thank you for the Chicago videos Adam. My eldest child lives in Chicago and I've not been to visit since before the pandemic. However, I do have a trip planned for next month. Also thank you for my pins and stickers! Very generous of you to send them to so many people for free. Take care.

I love Chicago so much! Thank you for making me feel like I was right there with you! Wish you would have had at least a few shots from the game because the Rays were on fire yesterday!!🔥 That being said- I’m also glad that you got to just take it all in without having to work. I can’t tell you how much I’m enjoying these vlogs!!! If you’ve never been to Wrigley Field before…buckle up. Watching a game in an old park like that with so much history just hits different. I’m going to be stalking CZcams all morning tomorrow for that upload!! Have fun at the game today Adam! Rays Up!!!!!
Is he going to Wrigley? This is so cool - in the 1960's my gramma used to pack me and my brother and cousin up on the train from LaSalle (about 100 miles away) and we used to go to the games at Comiskey and Wrigley. We used to also make an annual trip to Chicago at Christmas for the Ice Follies out at the Armory. FUNNY story - so the follies was created by the Shipstads. Eddie and Roy... so Roy Shipstad was my husband's god father and good friends (obviously) with my father-in-law. Also Chicago tales of gramma and her watching Roller Derby on Saturday nights when my parents went to Chicago for a show. I remember her vividly yelling at the derby on TV - "that God-d*&)& Eddie Krebbs!" Eddie was a Derby STAR in the 60's-70's and a notorious cranky bad guy. So 2010, I'm in a bar in Castro Valley, CA, and who is sitting next to me chatting me up but Mr. Eddie Krebbs. I ghost wrote a book about derby for him for his grandkids, and got to meet ALL the derby folks and the stars and even Jerry Seltzer, who was Leo - the founders- son. They also started their shows in the Armory etc... and yep - they all knew my father-in-law, who was the Chief Steward on the Matson Great White Ships in the 40's-70's. Crazy stories. They all knew each other. I knew none of them and they ALL came by way of this weird memory of my gramma cartin us kids up to Chicago on the train. And where did all this happen, you may wonder? Why in San Francisco, of course. And after leaving Illinois in 1966, I grew up in Florida very near to where Adam lives. I worked as a character at Disney my very first job. I feel like I know Adam because we travel the same routes - it's amazing I've never run into him! LOL! You absolutely never know who you're going to meet. I think that's why I love Adam's channel so much. He knows. It's almost NEVER what you think it will be and if you have the humor to both see it and laugh about it, it's life's divine comedy.
@@smspirate I would pretty much bet money that he planned this trip so he could get in games at both Guaranteed Rate and Wrigley, since the Cubs Rays series starts tonight.
It is always cool to see you guys having fun. I especially liked the Ferris Wheel ride. It is very fitting that Chicago still has a Ferris wheel. The worlds first Ferris wheel was unveiled at the Chicago worlds fair of 1893. It was also called The World's Columbian Exposition and marked the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival to North America in 1492.
Chicago is such a beautiful city. I've only visited once and it was in the dead of winter and far from toasty. I'd love to go back during the warmer months so I could explore a bit more comfortably. Until then, I shall join your adventures.
Adam!!! Adam!!!!!!! Adam!!!!!! Sooo sorry you had such horrible weather in out beautiful city. Thought I saw you at the Sox game on Sat but didn't want to bother you. Hopefully you can make a trip back when it's warm! Oddly enough it's going to be almost 80⁰ this coming weekend. Thanks for what you do. Appreciate your videos. Been a subscriber since back in the Van days. Bad weather isn't fun. Next time. Much better for you!
The home office of my former employer was located near to those round towers.... It was cool to see a number of buildings and locales that I could readily recognize! I had been in the lower level Billy Goat tavern. It definitely had a blast from the past feel.
I was born and raised in Wrigleyville and worked at navy pier for a couple years in my late 20s. We used to ride bikes bikes to navy pier before it was made so nice! I was a little nervous and didn't know exactly what to expect from tonight's title and thumbnail. Turned out to be one beautiful establishing shot after another. Kudos for the wonderful camera work. Cinematic sensibilities really shined through here in unexpectedly pleasing ways.
There are many boat tour companies on the Chicago River, so some may have still been running that late. If you take one, and I highly recommend you do, take the Chicago Architecture Center tour. They are a non-profit and have excellent docents who do the tours. It gives you a great perspective on the years of different architecture in the city from a vantage point you can only get from the water. Don't let this little dusting of snow this morning slow you down. Going to be 80 degrees on Saturday here! Can't wait to see you at Wrigley. Go explore around the neighborhood there, lots more to see than at the Sox games. Great weekend vlog guys, thanks.
The water taxis are great ways to get around! Every time I'm on a layover at Union Station I cross the street to the Taxi and go out to the Pier to have some fun. Yep the architectural tour is wonderful!
the two circular towers is called Marina Towers. being the movie location buff you are, there was a great scene in the movie The Hunter, starring Steve McQueen...where a car was driven off one of the parking levels (during a car chase) and flipped over landing in the river. I worked downtown at the time and watched the filming of this. I also want to say that this was Steve's last movie before he passed.
Next time you come around try the architectural tours they have on the river. I'm local and LOVE walking around downtown. Hope you enjoyed your visit!!!
My son was in Chicago the weekend before you for a school trip. He went on a boat tour and said it was torture because it was so cold! He is from the north too!🤣
Loving the Chicago trip! I got my stickers and pins last week. Thank you so much. Have you been doing all those envelopes by yourself? If you have, that’s amazing.
downtown chicago is safe at night to walk, if you know were to go.. The Magnificent Mile, Millennial park and Water tower is where most people hang out or walk at night. Best time is Christmas with all the lights.
I remember being in school at the Naval Base outside Chicago. We would catch the train outside the back gate .We would stop at every town between Great Lakes Naval Station and Chicago, and have a rum drink. Arriving in Chicago, half tipsy, and wandering around Chicago. We stayed at the Playboy Hotel. That was 1977. Love Chicago!! 🥰
You were right at my sister's bldg! The one behind the 'no pedicabs' sign.. Can't believe she lives in that giant shiny bldg! This is a blast, seeing you in her neighborhood!
Blessings .. hope you had a blessed Resurrection Sunday! ✝️ Looks like a fun time, but cold. It’s rainy in lower Alabama. Again, blessings and stay safe in the Windy City!😀 Love seeing the train going around above.. very cool!
Burt Reynolds may have filmed a scene by those round buildings where a car drove off a garage into the river. When I was in town I stayed at palmer house hotel. Swanky.
Great video Adam. I haven't been to Chicago in many years, not since my days in the Navy and boot camp. My wife and I love your videos and can't wait to see what you post each day. Keep up the great content!
Awesome video Adam! A video idea since you are in Chicago would be a filming location video. I am a longtime fan of Knight Rider, & would love to see the filming locations of the epic season 4 episode " Knight of the Juggernaut". That episode was mostly filmed in Chicago. Keep up the good work Adam!👍 Hello from Phoenix Arizona!🔥

the two circular towers is called Marina Towers. being the movie location buff you are, there was a great scene in the movie The Hunter, starring Steve McQueen...where a car was driven off one of the parking levels (during a car chase) and flipped over landing in the river. I worked downtown at the time and watched the filming of this. I also want to say that this was Steve's last movie before he passed.
The cold air in there maybe to keep the windows fogging up? Not sure?
So now we know why the northern MLB fans love going to spring training in AZ and FL!
The boats that you saw going up the Chicago River are tour boats that take people on the Chicago architecture tour. That's a great tour to take.
Next time you come around try the architectural tours they have on the river. I'm local and LOVE walking around downtown. Hope you enjoyed your visit!!!
I want to . It looks awesome
Thanks Adam for the tour. I have been to Chicago. Enjoy yourself Adam Relax.
My son was in Chicago the weekend before you for a school trip. He went on a boat tour and said it was torture because it was so cold! He is from the north too!🤣
In Chicago ....what was built first...the Buildings or the trains. It's so Unique how they intertwine between the buildings 🌺🧡
An architecture tour by boat sounds awesome.
Loving the Chicago trip! I got my stickers and pins last week. Thank you so much. Have you been doing all those envelopes by yourself? If you have, that’s amazing.
You go places I would certainly not go (alone) Thanks x
I love the Cow bell.! Love DJ Kitty! But I love my Sox and this is their year! If not you have a fellow fan
I am from Chicago but I am a Cubs fan so I am glad the Rays won. Plus I have been a Rays fan since their debut as well.
downtown chicago is safe at night to walk, if you know were to go..
Pedaling, means no selling! Not related to bicycles at all....
Was waiting for the, there’s go the train call. Beautiful city. 🇦🇺🇦🇺👍👍
You were right at my sister's bldg! The one behind the 'no pedicabs' sign.. Can't believe she lives in that giant shiny bldg! This is a blast, seeing you in her neighborhood!
Chicago is home to the first “Ferris wheel” at the 1893 world fair.
I worked at Fleet Services on Milwaukee and Huron. We had many of lunches from the Billy Goat! Best burgers ever.
If I'm not mistaken the circular high rise was used in Steve McQueens last movie.
'Enjoy the moment before you' Could not have said it better
That looks alot like the opening credits in The Bob Newhart Show from back in the 70s
Chicago at night looks very cool!
Blessings .. hope you had a blessed Resurrection Sunday! ✝️ Looks like a fun time, but cold. It’s rainy in lower Alabama. Again, blessings and stay safe in the Windy City!😀 Love seeing the train going around above.. very cool!
When I lived in Livertyville Illinois we would go into Chicago and go shopping we loved going to Watertower Place a high rise mall.
Such an intimidating city but what a sight from the Ferris Wheel. I find it really amusing that the Ray's won the game you didn't record.
I love Chicago. Hope I get to visit one day!
Burt Reynolds may have filmed a scene by those round buildings where a car drove off a garage into the river. When I was in town I stayed at palmer house hotel. Swanky.
"The Hunter" 1980 with Steve McQueen at Marina Towers
Chicago looks nice but cold.Brrrr Nice video Adam.🙂👍✌
Adam, next adventure for you (guys) take the El train somewhere. Saw it at the end.... Interesting walk around downtown. Never been to Chicago..
Great news that the Rays won!!
Keep up the good work Adam!👍
Hello from Phoenix Arizona!🔥
Congratulations Adam, your team finally won. Maybe you can get another win on Monday.
Enjoyed the Ferris Wheel ride.
Great views!!!
