Non running MGTC EXU.. What was wrong with it?

The 1949 MGTC EXU that came into the shop after sitting 5yrs is now running. Years ago, the owner had started chasing down an electrical issue after it stalled while driving and wouldn’t start again. They did find a wire that looked melted and started to fix that, then moved on to lots of other testing that yielded no results. Due to his age, medical issues and difficulty twisting to get under the dash, it got put on hold for quite a while until deciding to bring it to me. Was the offending wire the issue, or was it something else?
