Love the tempo--this music has such great kinetic energy when these two play it.

At first I was startled with how fast it is. Soon I realized, as always with Schnabel, that it is exactly right and thrilling.

This sonata - withiout slow movement, as the fothcoming op. 39 of Brahms - is a model of rigorous construction and of fierce melodism. We have hee an authoritative version.

Went to hear Kian Soltani and Julio Elizalde perform a lovely recital at the Kennedy Center in D.C. last night. As beautiful as their playing was of this piece and the rest of the program, Schnabel's tempi seems so much more responsive to the music. The first movement is not a dirge - it's a lively "allegro ma non tanto".

I consistently thought Rostropovich with Richter were the supreme partnership in these works, then I heard this account!. Need I say more.

Schnabel, in his later years, was the "father figure" of The Albeneri Trio, America's first permanent Piano Trio. Founded in 1944, their recordings are now available for the first time here on CZcams.

Why is Schnabel playing with this naive cellist ? Didn't he find something better ? Feuermann had catch a cold and Piatigorsky a broken leg ?

I’m surprised that you don’t find this interpretation to your liking. Certainly Fournier is an excellent cellist; he’s one of my favorites along with Casals, Rostropovich, DuPre, Piatigorsky, and Feuermann.
