I first went there in the 70's after college. Moved to Lubbock after college in OH and camped all over that area. During this time they built a new trail to the peak. When I went with friends who were first timers, I'd take them up the old hard route and then down the newer easier trail.

My wife and I and a friend are in our mid-60’s and just completed the hike to the top of Texas the other day. It was extremely windy and chilly but we did it!

@@AdamandMadalyn It really was. I never dreamed I would do it. I have wanted to do the adjacent McKittrick canyon trail for years but acquiesced to my sweet wife and her friend to climb Guadalupe peak. She turned 65 the day before and it was a birthday gift to herself. ☺️

Nice job highlighting Guadalupe NP! We enjoy exploring the parks & this one is on our list. Hoping to tackle the peak! Also surprised to find out about the fall colors & short distance to Carlsbad Caverns. Thank you for sharing your insight & experience at the park with us! 👍

Wow good luck with the peak! Maybe in the future we will try! Would highly recommend a visit to Carlsbad Caverns as well if you can swing it!

Is that 6 hours back and forth or just one way?

@@1966bluemax The Guadalupe Peak Trail round trip took us about 6 hours to complete. We hung out at the top for about 30 minutes to soak in the views. Definitely recommend it!

@@awitnessuntoallnations thanks, how challenging was the trail?

@@1966bluemax For a summit trail, it was moderately challenging. There is quite a bit of elevation right away using switchbacks. The trail is well groomed, so footing was never an issue. It levels out in the middle, then gets a little steeper toward the summit. Not having to deal with altitude helps. A very doable & enjoyable trek! We filmed it if you're interested in checking out some of the trail's highlights.

Is there anything actually cool there? Good hikes sure but any cool sights to see ?

It’s worth stopping at if you’re visiting Carlsbad Caverns. Very remote part of the country. Not a singular destination though.

@@AdamandMadalyn I’m debating planning a trip to see Carlsbad Guadalupe and white sands all in one go but it’s like a 19 hour drive just to get to white sands. Don’t know if it’s worth it, I just want to knock out the parks aha

When you hiked the Smith Springs Loop, did you actually find water in the springs? Or are they springs that dry up at certain times of year?
