I was in Northern California last July with my uncle and cousins for vacation. I went to about half of these places mentioned in the video. There’s still much to see and looking forward to seeing Alcatraz up close on a boat, hopefully Yosemite, Los Angeles, and the sequoia trees. I have already been to the Golden Gate Bridge(it was foggy), Stinson beach, half moon bay, Monterey, Levi stadium, and some other places. For a lot of these places it was my first time there.

Prefer San Diego, San Clemente, Laguna Beach, to Hearst Castle, San Francisco, Monterey and Napa then inland to Tahoe, Sierra Nevada towns and lakes, back South to Los Angeles and Hollywood, Maybe Catalina Island and home again. Love some of the other stops but this is a Big trip ! Lots to see at every stop , different things in every season. CA is a driving trip, Native American history should not be forgotten. I would have loved to include the redwoods but seemed we were at a month already, the art ,
Reforming arts and science , La Brea tar pits are amazing. The pronunciation in this post are close but not correct. Thank you. Another amazing state is New Mexico.

As far as other places….Seeing the wild elk herds along Highway 101 on the northern coast is incredible, the beauty of Big Basin state park before sadly the fire of 2020, but the trees are still there and will thrive, a view on a clear day from Mount Hamilton or Mount Umunhum ringing the Santa Clara county, especially in the green spring time!

THANK YOU for including some places in Northern California. I am a lifelong California native, with family from one end of the state to the other. This gorgeous state is more than just beaches and Hollywood. And, Northern California is majestic, to say the least. Monterey and Carmel are "dreamy"- perfect description. Lovely, misty trees, wildlife, and low-key, but high class homes. And, Sacramento is a fantastic city for charm, history, food, and for raising a family. Sacramento has a great art and music scene, as well. And, Yosemite? Jaw-dropping. Leave it to a tour director to finally do this RIGHT!

I am a third generation Californian. My dad and grandfather were born and raised in San Francisco. I was born and raised in Napa. While I was expecting both S.F. and Napa to be on this list, I was pleasantly surprised to find Sacramento on this list, which is where I now live. Sacramento is kind of the "red headed step child" living in the shadow of S.F. and so many other great places nearby. Sacramento has really come alive in the last decade or so, along with what was mentioned here, the midtown area is filled with small art galleries, live theater, farm to fork restaurants, numerous cafes, independent coffee shops, bar and clubs. We also have an amazing bike trail the runs from the confluence of the American and Sacramento river 35 miles to Folsom lake. Growing up in Napa (only an hour away) I barely knew Sacramento existed except that it was the state capital... but now I have a real appreciation for this place I call home. Thanks for including it on this list.

I saw this and it made me smile. I live in the northern California foothills. I have been all over California many many times. Here is a great list places to go in California. Some of them are on this list BUT not all of them. And my top place to go to no one knows about unless they’ve been there.
    1. Medicine Lake area. 5 to 7 days to explore. Best to camp at one of the smaller lakes like bull’s-eye or Blanche. No amenities. By far the best place. By far.
    2. Yosemite. 2 to 5 days to explore.
    3. Mendocino Coast and the giant redwoods. 3 to 5 days to explore.
    4. Disney land. 3 to 4 days to explore. By the park hopper pass. If you’re going to spend that much money it would be worth it.
    5. Sequoia national Park and Kings Canyon national Park. Three days to five days to explore. Pictures will never do the giant sequoias justice. You have to see them!
    6. Lake Tahoe. 2 to 3 days to explore.
    7. Monterey. 2 to 3 days to explore. Well worth renting a kayak and paddling in Monterey bay.
    8. Death Valley. 2 to 3 days to explore. Anymore it’s too damn hot LOL.
    9. North battle Creek Lake Campground. My2nd favorite place to camp in California From there you can go to Lassen national park( much better to camp there than in Lassen) Burney Falls. Caves to explore. Much more.
10 . Klamath River. Steelhead fishing in the fall . Between Hoopa and happy camp. Absolutely beautiful river. Lots of bears LOL.
That is my list. I’ve been to every single place on this guy‘s top 20 list but if I was going to recommend somebody to really see California at its best I would tell them to go to those places.

As someone who lived in Southern CA all my life (and I do love everything you mentioned) I go to northern CA any chance I get. I have lived in San Diego my whole life. I still think it's the most beautiful city in California! You can visit all 4 seasons in one day during winter ( seriously you can). There are a zillion places to visit in San Diego County. If I had to choose my favorites, beyond SD; Big Sur & Yosemite ( I try to camp/ visit once a year), Kings Canyon/ Redwoods. We have the most amazing national parks in this state.
Or wine country locations are my next favorite.

Like you I was born in Chicago, but moved to Southern California as soon as I finished school. My family has always had close ties to California since my dad was stationed in San Diego when he was in the Navy. I have been to every area mentioned in your video, and you did a great job of selecting the top spots. My parents moved to San Diego, and eventually retired to Tucson in a very nice retirement town called Green Valley. Holiday times became very stressful flying to visit them, so I eventually bought a home in Phoenix. When they both passed away I decided to move back to California due to the heat and lack of ocean in Arizona. I now have a condo on top of a hill with a view of San Diego from La Jolla to Mexico and couldn't be happier.

I grudgingly agree California is probably the singular state with the most to see and do, but if you took the same expanse of area and plotted it over the Northeast or the Southeast, you'd find just as much. I had drove threw Colorado, then on to Los Vegas, then death Valley, then stayed in Fresno and visited Yosemite National Park for about 45 days, and after that I hit the coast to visit a old friend of mine where I was raised in Sacramento for a couple weeks. After the trip and the ocean in my body, I really enjoyed a few drinks of whine watching the sunset and I feel so happy with my life like there is so much to see. One of my favorite places to visit in California is the Los Angeles Union Station across the street from Olvera Street. The Union Station is an iconic landmark. This is a historic building that holds all the glamour of days gone by. Countless movies have been filmed in this classic train station. When you finish touring the Union Station and its beautiful gardens, you can cross the street to Olvera Street. I think one of the beaches of Virgin island comes close, but that is only one beach. Hawaii has many to die for. Besides Yosemite itself, Tuolumne Meadows is so beautiful you want to just lay on the grass and walk-in the stream. This is toward the north side of Yosemite along Tioga Rd.

We have traveled all over this amazing country and seen so much beauty. We are retired and can live anywhere we want yet choose to live in the Sierra Foothills 8 miles from where gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill (Coloma CA). Driving home from the Sacramento area seeing the snow capped Sierra Mountains never gets old.
With all of the bad things that are said and insults to our residents from residents of other states, CA has and does get a lot of abuse and some of that abuse is well placed. It costs a lot to live here and our government officials leave much to be desired. That said, we feel fortunate to be able to live here. The climate, the Alpine lakes 30 minutes from our home, the beach 3 hours away, winter sports 45 minutes away, and so much more.
In addition the economic opportunities here are second to none in spite of regulations and taxes. I retired at 56 years old, something very unlikely had we lived elsewhere.
If you are one of the people bad mouthing CA thats fine, but please do not come here. We already have plenty of tourists and do not need or want people with bad attitudes towards our beautiful state.

      @amysiemens5061 Před 2 lety +4

California is very unique in that besides large cities, there are many small cities as well as different things to interest everyone. We have mountains, desert, lakes, ocean, rivers, trees-redwood in particular, lots of state, regional and city parks, and lots of entertainment for adults and children. I often thought of leaving the state when i retired, but I don’t want to start over alone.
The Sierra foothills area is very nice. I like Sutter and Placerville and I’m sure you’re not too far away. Ive been to Jackson Rancheria many times and enjoy the drive because we used to take Latrobe road. I’ve been to the gold country many times as well. It is nice and quiet and beautiful. It can get very hot in the summer. Is that old cemetery still there? Enjoy your retirement.

Was in Phoenix, AZ last year several times. The people I hung out with couldn't stop themselves from severely crapping on Cali, even knowing that I was from there. I've lived in LA for 22 years(from Ohio originally) and just moved to the Bay Area in December. Because I have better manners than those folks, I couldn't bring myself to inform them that in 22 years of living in LA, I had spent exactly ZERO time thinking anything good or bad about Arizona. For no other reason than I was too engaged and in love with life in California to even form an opinion about other places. And I have had a totally different experience than you Jim. I'm a poor, struggling artist and wearer of many hats in order to get by. But I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

As a third generation Californian, I was distracted by odd pronunciation ( Fr Junipero Serra, San Luis Obispo to name a few). Napa Valley is a xerox copy of Italy's Piemonte. Italian vintners from there established the area in the 1950's: Mondavi, Gallo to name just a few! To me San Francisco and San Diego are favorites.
