He has also forgotten to point out that the Luos were primarily in Bor and Bhar el Ghazal areas of South Sudan prior to their movement southwards to present-day Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania...But generally he is a well informed elderly man of God in deed! Bishop Baker Ochola's Presentation need to be investigated further. Could the Luo be one of the Lost 12 Hebrew tribes which were scattered according to the Bible prophesies; or fraction of the Hebrew tribe who chose to move down the Nile while Moses led the rest through the Red Sea into the Canaan Land ? Could the Luo had a significant contribution to foundation of civilization in the Ancient Egypt and participated in the construction of the Pyriamids and fortification of the Ancient Egyptian Empire. Very little has been passed down to the current generation through oral history and we have unanimously accepted the Colonialist verson (Bar-el-Gazel in the Luo Cradle Land). That is the danger of allowing to be told your story.
The Bishop stated in his commencement speech that the Luo originated from Jerusalem, not Bar-El-Gazel ? That's what we were all fed on in our History classes in School. History points out that the Luo has always enshrined their live and Livelihood along the Nile and so does the name Nilotic stem from, i presume and so do the Ancient Egyptian and the Hebrew. Up until 1991, remnants of the Biblical Hebrews (Beta Israel) were lost and suffered in Ethiopia for centuries not until they were discovered, airlifted and resettled in Israel.
The IGBO's of the Nigeria are projecting the same claims; the Lemba of Zimbabwe as well, and in his speech i here the Bishop making claim. Not only him, Bosmic Otim in the Intro of most of his songs; In our school days Mr. Layeng used to speak about the same. Should we continue to thrash this ? There are very scanty literature on this subject yet very fundamentals for Luo. This is a very significant research topic that the Luo Elders, Prof, Scholars and spiritual leaders has to invest time and resources to uncover. Otherwise, many of them may not be around forever and our root/origin will always begin from Bar-El-Gazel as the colonialist documented it. Our suffering may not be in vain.

They are not actual stories but an easy exit to explain in the former case the separation of Alur and Acholi.
It needs to be interrogated further why the majority of alur are from Congo yet the Lous migrated on the caracts of the Nile.

Frankly, I have never been persuaded by the theory that Bar El Ghazal is the cradle land of Luo people. Quite simply because the area has never been renowned for being a centre of human civilisation or a centre of some early human activities.
The present Luo groups in Bar el Ghazal are a small minority who lost their way during this long and weiry track along the Nile.
To me this theory seems like a deliberate distraction by White scholars to deny the black negroid people their strong and evidence based claim to ancient Egyptian (Pharaonic) civilisation, ie from the period (Menes 3201BC to Amenhotep-1353 BC).
According to, perhaps the most acclaimed Egyptologist, Cheikh Anta Diop, a Senegalist by nationality, when the Pharaonic Egypt was raided by Sematic tribesmen from the Middle East the orignal black Negroid Egyptians, eg the Wolof, the Igbos, etc fled Westwards, while the Luos and other Negroid Africans went southwards, following the Nile. Cheick Anta Diop (RIP) authored several books on African history, including "The Origin Of Civilizarion-Myth Or Reality".
The Amharic people of Ethiopa who accompanied the Queen of Sheeba to Israel during the reign of King Solomon (son of King David-900-931) were in Israel long after the end of the pharaonic period (3201-1353BC) and lived there for no more than two generations. They returned to Ethiopa when the Queen's son was denied succession to his father's throne by the Sanhedrin. Therefore their claim to being the Pharaos of ancient Egpt cannot be backed by historical records.
Equally I am not persuaded that Luo cradleland was Jersusalem (Judea) as postulated by the Right Hon. Emeritus Bishop Ochola.
However it seems more credible that Luo cradle land was between North Sudan and Upper Egypt (around present day Nuba mountains) from where black Negroid people occupied and ruled ancient Egypt.
Please notice that there are more pyramids in this region than there are in Egypt, which Western Egyptologist choose to overlook, quite simply becuase not to do so would destroy their hiden agenda to wrongfully and maliciously deny credit for ancient Egptian civilisation due to Black Negroid people. They would rather give the credit to present day Egptians than to black negroid Africans.
As for the "Beads and Spear" story narreted by the Bishop, ie conflict between Gipiir and Labongo, I believe that it is not a myth as some people may be inclined to think so. It is oral history. The Chollo people in Upper Nile Province have their own similar version of the event. In fact it is on record that a prominent Luo elder from Kenya, Mzee Apollo Ohanga came to Uganda in 1946 to visit that point of separation ( aka Wang-wat-lee) in West Acholiland.
In fact, if anything it is the existence of the Chwezi people that has been called into question by at least two very imminent Historians:
The French Historians Jean-pierre Chretien in his book, "The Great Lakes of Africa" found that among the Karagwe people in Northern Tanzania (who are related to the Bahima) that the Bachwezi were "purely supernatural people" who allegedly dropped from the sky.
Another very eminent scholar of history of the Great Lakes Region of Africa Fr J P Crazollara, perhaps the most reputed writer of Central Luo History (three volumes) dismisses the idea entirely, for lack of collaborative evidences.

    • @Mrpwocber
      @Mrpwocber Před 2 lety +1

@Paul Kilama JP Crazollara was an agent of the colonialist government. In fact all the missionaries were working to write against each and every ethnic group, they informed their governments about the strengths and weakness of each group so governments can figure out how to fight the people to date. Luo/Lwo being the people of Israel, just study the culture especially all the customs which the colonial missionaries forcefully outlawed. Also see how kids were beaten at schools that they should not speak the Lwo /Luo language, it was for some hidden reason that authorities knew.

At the onset the Bishop is not right .
Such initiatives needs researchers and not criteria of age to profess knowledge ladit loum
The oldest humans where discovered in East Africa in oldivai George and this have not been contested by the white man.so the assertion that luos where in Israel is absolutely wrong .
After the big bang the world drifted and the white man lost his colour from black because of lack of sun.
So how were blacks again in Israel 2000 year ago.
It is true that the Egyptian civilization is the blackmans civilization(the kushites,) and I guess Luos where a component of kushites (not researched)
So it's a good initiative and I pray I would be annually and we invite researchers on specifics topics.

OO I like your point of argument but I think you were basing your reasoning on the white men's presumptive or distorted history. I am more convinced with the Bishop's narrative of the names of places given by the Bishop.
This should also teach us (African and Luo) that our history belongs to us and not the narrative and/or interpretation of the whites.
Think of "Ka tum" "pa Bit" etc.

    • @odongaotto3116
      @odongaotto3116 Před 2 lety +2

@@thekobs9839 so what evidence is there to show the luo were is in Israel ?
At which point did we/they loose/gain our skin colour?
Ths linguistic tools of comparison the Bishop is using is not sufficient to draw inferences and academic conclusions.
Eg saying Khartoum is a place to get finished, or Cairo a place of smoke .
The same is what okwera Jaria said ok radio one that Italy is "kit tal ango".in luo when where the luos I Italy?
That approach is not sustainable in academia or epistemology.
In any case there on 26/27 letters of the the alphabet so words are destined to be similar.
To draw inferences and conclusions from your perspective only in academia is called bigotry eg we say the monkey is not putting on clothes while from the other end the monkey laughs at human that we can't stand cold by putting on clothes .
All arguments have two or more sides but using the globally acceptable tool of analysis even if "euro centric" is a prerequisite to modern day knowledge not just age brother. . That is why all space scientists have to be recognised by NASA, you can't fly from opololacen my village in pader to the moon NASA will not allow because there is already an acquired body of knowledge in the area so.you have to go and present your case to them on the new area.
The Bishops submission is oral tradition and hearsay and it has to to corroborated with other tools like: research, physical features.
A quick test I agree the pyramids is luo/kushites Civilization why ? It can be traced down the Nile as you get smaller pyramids. That is evidence that can stand without oral tradition

@@odongaotto3116 Almost all of us had the names of our forefathers in the bible before the missionaries came. Why is this since we did not have the white man's bible? The cultural practices, check all of the things in church and find out if they are in the bible that the white missionaries or Muslims brought. Our culture is in the bible but not their cultures. What the missionaries and colonialist destroyed are the cultures of the bible which were given to people of Israel. As for writings, we had different ones to what they brought, we had our own system of writing. We lived in Turkey also which is why so many Lwo words are in Turkey shops, with same meaning to date. We migrated all over the place because of war.

This history does not tie up with the history of Egypt. Egyptian History with pharaohs dates back to 6000 BC, so the luo history just dating back 400 years ago cannot claim credit for egyptian heritage.

These things have been researched already but it is you that needs to dig deeper, some evidence are in Universities, museums etc. It looks like goverments and religious inistitutions did not want people to know the turth, afterall billions of people deceived. All film industries lied that Jesus, Mary etc were europeans - not a single evidence to coroborate this.
