Thank you for reviewing these two lovely guitars but, “ maybe these are the guitars for you if all you want is to play a few chords and sing over them??” WT? !!Have you ever heard of Kenneth Pattengale? He plays an old 00-15M and masterfully torches the fretboard with nuanced picking and mind blowing runs,..all while singing in harmony. You guys have a great rapport ...just play the guitars a bunch more please. There’s a whole lot of range , potential and beauty in the voices of these. I am grateful for both of you, yet you trotted them once around the track and headed them back into the stable without even breaking a sweat on them. The spruce tops are an extra grand so that affects one’s decisions as well. Folks purchase the mahogany for lots of reasons, the best description I have heard is that they sound as if they have an natural compression, sustain and unique sweetness. My 000-15SM sounds like it’s coming through a mixing board right there picking in the kitchen, outstanding! Put some great guitar playing into these hogs and you’ll hear an incredible guitar for your money.

My only complaint about these models is the 1 11/16 nut. I would much prefer the 1 3/4 nut, but to get that on an all solid genuine Honduran Mahogany Martin, one needs to purchase the Retro E series, or one of the more expensive series such as the Authentic Series etc.

When my HD 28 was 20+ years I was changing physically. It became less fun and harder to play the 28. I needed something smaller, easier to play. I was all set to go with be a 000. When checking with my dealer, he had a 00-15 used in mint condition with a K&K pickup. The price difference was about $700.00. Too much to pass up. So, instead of a 000 I ended up in with a 00. I had the 000-15(before they added the M) for a couple of years but ended up getting a 00-15m too(a great deal I couldn't pass up). I also had a Guild GADm20 at the time (made in China, I know...) at the time. I decided on the 00-15m, sold the 000-15 and the Guild, and have now had the 00-15m for about 5 years. I play fingerstyle. You can't go wrong with either, but I prefer the 00. A bit sharper, with better clarity, and just a brilliant guitar all around for fingerstyle playing. I'm sure I will keep it for as long as I can play. I do have to say, I actually kind of miss the little Guild. I haven't played the California-made M20, but the little Chinese Guild was surprisingly nice sounding, kind of old-timey boxy sounding but not in a bad way, bright and surprisingly loud for an "0" sized guitar, and very well made. It did have that "too thick" gloss finish, but I have to say it was a pretty little guitar. As I recall, Grover tuners, bone nut/saddle, hard-shell tweed case. (I think the later ones stopped using both, Grovers/bone). For the money, and if you aren't looking to spend over $1000, I think the Chinese Guild is a pretty good option. I think I sold mine for $400 or so, think they have crept up a bit lately. ((Keep in mind the USA Guild has the 1 3/4" nut, whereas the Chinese Guild was 1 11/16", like the Martin 00 and 00015's. ))

I play a 1970 D-41. I also am a sound man, so I know how to get the most from an acoustic guitar. If people want to plug the guitar into the pa or an amp, I recommend the K&K Pure Westen Mini. It should be installed by a good luthier. The 000-15m seems to have more projection, due to the body size. The 0015m has a far more mellow sound. Both are fine instruments at a price point that is, yes, an investment. Part of the reason they sound so good comes from Martin workmanship, including a very light finish. The bone nut and saddle are a major plus. When the guitar is properly set up, these 2 items are very important. Again, the setup should be done by a reputable luthier/guitar repairman. Martin sends their guitars out neutrally set up. It's up to the buyer to have the guitar set up for their style of playing. I've been play Martins since 1961. I even played an original 00015m that was made in the 1930s. It played well and projected sound across the room.
I'm looking for a 000 size guitar with a cutaway. They are hard to find! 00015m doesn't have a cutaway, but, it would satisfy my need for a smaller bodied guitar. Play on, folks!

here's the thing though - the mahogany certainly mellows as a top-wood, but because of the nature of the thinner guitars, they would be a bright sounding box (geometrically) to begin with, almost TOO bright. The mahogany is the perfect wood for a 000 in my opinion, because it enhances the brightness that the dimensions are already working with, but mellows any harshness. It's such a smooth guitar, I just bought one to be a companion to my Martin D-18 which is my favorite guitar. I've been eyeing the 000-15M for years and always felt it was a top 3 Martin guitar in their entire lineup. I still think that!

I have a 000-15m and love it. However, be aware that, in contrast to the comment in the video, this a long scale (25.4 inch for Martin) guitar. This reflects some understandable confusion in the Martin line as the 000s are generally short scale (24.9 inch). The OMs which shares the same body dimensions are generally long scale. Why Martin chose not to call the 000-15m an OM-15 is unclear, but this is a great sounding guitar with excellent playability nonetheless.

Martin certainly have mixed up the designation of model number to scale length across the entire range now.
In many models, it seems to stick close to old norms that are meant to separate the 0, 00, 000 series and the OM series, and then ignores it completely for other models.. I am yet to decipher a definitive reason for it too.

I think they both sound completely different at the end . I understand they are going to sound different but it was almost too different . Makes me think the strings are different or maybe one new and one old . More playing would be great as far as comparison . Maybe an overlapping look at them . I am armchair quarterbacking here haha . With that said, you gentlemen did fantastic , thank you!

Lol the 00 and 000 both have the 25.5 standard scale length, which in any other series ie 18 & 28 would make the "00015m" & the "00015sm", om's but they're both the same size, om's just have longer scale lengths really just change the pickguard to a teardrop and you have a proper orchestra model lol
