    Rainbow has gone through many phases and love each one of them. This is the Graham Bonnet era, such a great song. Ritchie Blackmore is the driving force for so many years with Rainbow, Deep Purple, and now Blackmore's Night.

    The nature of the band changed significantly as they went from Dio to Bonnet to Joe Lynn Turner. Down to Earth, the album Bonnet sang on, is excellent start to finish.

      For sure! I love Dio and he always be my favorite singer, but Down To Earth is my favorite Rainbow album. I know Cozy didn’t think too much of doing this Russ Ballard tune, but I think it turned out great.

    Ronnie Dio (pronounced "Dee-oh") left Rainbow in 1979 to replace Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath.
    Graham Bonnet, the singer who replaced Dio in Rainbow, is criminally underrated. His voice stands up well next to Ronnie's. Some great songs, from both singers, are:
    * "Stargazer"
    * "Starstruck"
    * "Kill the King"
    * "All Night Long"
    * "Tarot Woman"
    * "Run With the Wolf"
    * "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll"
    * "Gates of Babylon"
    * "Catch the Rainbow"
    * "Temple of the King"
    * "Still I'm Sad"

    Rainbow was formed from Ritchie Blackmore. The original deep purple guitarist wanted to do a solo album with the singer from a support band that toured with them called ELF. That singer was Ronnie James Dio. Ritchie Blackmore decided to leave the purple to form his own band Rainbow with Dio. Ronnie James Dio would later leave rainbow due to creative differences with Blackmore wanting to do a more commercial sound for the Radio. Which is what you just heard But this singer Gram Bonnet only lasted one album. Joe Lynn Turner would be rainbows next singer. Before Blackmore left for a Deep Purple reunion in 1984.

      OMG, I had not heard anyone else knowing the band ELF in forever. I had not thought about them in ages. Thanks for bringing memories to this 57-year-old rocker.

    Ronnie Dio left because guitarist/band leader Ritchie Blackmore pushed for a poppier sound with this exact song.
    Dio had 3 albums with Rainbow, here are some songs from each, starting each with some of my favourites:
    Album 1 'Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow' - Temple of the King, 16th Century Greensleeves, Snake Charmer, Self Portrait
    Album 2 'Rising' - Tarot Woman, Stargazer, Light in the Black, Starstruck, Do You Close Your Eyes
    Album 2 'Long Live Rock'n'Roll' - Kill the King, Gates of Babylon, Sensitive to Light, The Shed

    Rainbow's line up seemed to change every week, every rock band at the time seemed to have an ex rainbow member

    Rainbow was never appreciated for the talent & music that they brought to the public, don’t get me wrong they had a great following ( could have bin bigger) in my humble opinion but your right on about sleeper group they weren’t played on top 40, or much on rock stations !
