  • Most people convert manual steering to power steering. I dare to be different! I'm tired of my leaky power steering.

    Love your WD 45. I had two for years, one with PS and it was nice but probably not necessary since that front end is so light. We had constant leaks with our power steering system too. I messed with it for years without success. Eventually traded it for an Oliver as our horsepower needs increased. I miss having a lightweight tractor for seeding…

      Thanks! When I bought my farm from my grandparents in 1976 I started out with 2 WD45s.

    I agree with the issue of constant oil leaks, it's just that we are not as young as we use to be. You are doing some nice work on your "specialty use" tractors.

    That's one way to fix the leaks!!
    I never saw one with power steering. Ran a friend's WD45 with an F11 high lift loader and 10 bale grapple.. loaded semis in the field for a week or so.. never had any trouble steering it.

      Thanks Ed! I’m not sure how rare PS is on these, suspect it’s not too common.

      @@farmerpeteHey Pete my Dad bought a new narrow front end WD 45 in 1957 and it had power steering on it and as far as I remember he didn’t have any problems with it leaking my nephew still has it today

    When I was growing up the little tractors and big trucks we had didn’t have power steering, maybe that’s why I have big arms lol 💪🏻

    I didn't realize a hood change was in order to match up with WD power steering. Mine and the old one back on the farm are manual steering. Warm weather is getting closer every day, or so we convince ourselves. Your tractor is looking good and ready.

      Thanks! Yes, there are holes in the hood for the PS tank.

      We had a WD-45 Diesel that did not have power steering, and they weren't that hard to steer. Our gasser had power steering, but it wasn't the Allis factory installed unit, so it didn't have the hole in the hood.

    Well I’d find a way to fix it. The tricycle ones was tough to turn with manual steering

    If new seals and O-rings didn't stop the leaks, then I'd probably take it off also. I assume this isn't the BMW power steering assembly on a different rebuild? If that was a different tractor, does it leak?

    • @farmerpete
      @farmerpete  Před 6 měsíci +1

      This is the one I used the BMW pump on. Pump was the only thing that didn’t leak!

    how much you want for the barns pump?

    • @farmerpete
      @farmerpete  Před 6 měsíci

      Don’t have a barns pump. Original pump went bad years ago. I used an automotive ps pump for a BMW. Pressure and volume specs are close. Pump was the only thing that didn’t leak.
