Switched out my roof box! Thule Roof Box installation, HOW TO!

- While I was visiting my Mom & Dad in CT and getting Camper the snip snip, I found a sick deal on a new roof box so I swapped mine out. A few of you were wondering how to install, so here's a fun, entertaining & quick, how to! Should only take you a couple minutes. Also, send good vibes, Camper is pissed his box fort was taken away and hasn't looked at me in 3 days. What a guy.
PS. I don't love this box or recommend it if you have a choice of roof box, closing is it not fun, and you have to make sure the front and back are completely clear or it wont lock. Which is a process in its own. Great budget box but if you have the money, pay it out.

Yay thank you!!!! I do everything myself. Filming on a tripod or voice over with b roll, and edit my own videos! Tho, I will recruit friends I make if they’re around heheh in this instance my mom crushed it! Was visiting for a week and she’s a natural haha. :-)

Nikki: I used to have similar rooftop box on my Volvo XC-90. I loved the storage box but hated my SUV :) replaced with Jeep Wrangler 75th edition. I sold my roof rack for $50, this was made by Sears. Love your videos as always.
What roof box did you have? I don't love this one it was just a sick deal - both the ones I had of this continually get stuck and don't lock! CRAZY!
@@NikkiDelventhal I had one made by Sears and sold it for $50 only four years ago when I bought my Jeep Wrangler. Mine worked like a charm, I do have the picture of this rack installed on my Volvo. I can also forward you the photo. BlackBranch at att.net

CZcams isn’t real life. We don’t really know these people. As a person who has done my fair share of traveling and alternative living, I can assure you these kind of people have many issues lol (yes, that definitely includes me)

Love your videos!! They were super helpful in preparing for my two cross country drives in my 2004 prius from east to west coast and back! I’m now thinking of doing another even longer cross country road trip so definitely interested in adding a Thule box. Which model is this (I know you said you don’t like it but I’m still curious to know)?

Hi Nikki, I was wondering how much of a loss in your MPG did you lose when you installed you Roof Box or the first cargo roof box? I wasn't sure if it's the packed extra weight or the aerodynamics that reduced your MPG's. My Gen 2009 gets 49 highway and 51 city so far but I want to add a roof box later. Can you shed some light on what you've experienced? Many thanks and stay safe. Oh and hi to Camper.

How does it feel to drive your Prius with and without? Like, on the highway especially, does it limit your control at all?
Always wondered how these things work.
I've got the longest Thule on my Dodge Caravan, love it, more room for my large Doberman, I'm 230 ,shes 80plus, we wouldn't work to well in a Prius
One thing you might want to check on, I know that it is this way in newer boxes, that the clamp tensioners are properly tightened. They have click kind of like a childproof medicine cap when they are tightened enough. I carry a ton of stuff in my box and like knowing that it is properly secured.
This one I don’t think has that but I’ve heard that in others tho, great suggestion - I had to go “upstairs” and check hahaha! The cross bars click tho when tightened fully.

PRO TIP: Thule carriers might be different, but I was surprised to read in my manual (forget the brand, I too got a great deal second hand) they do NOT recommend using it empty!
I guess it’s kinda flimsy and needs weight for rigidity.

@@MrTh3B0b maybe they need volume to make it more rigid, not necessarily weight. It's like sitting on a cardboard box that's empty vs has something in it. You shouldn't sit on either one, but the one that's full will likely survive the weight put on top of it?

Just placed a order for my 09 Hyundai Elantra roof rack . Does that windshield really come in handy? Still don’t know what box to get but I do like that pulse design . Makes the small cars look good. Also looking at the motion one .

I would move it to the passenger side I think, all the way over to the edge of the roof. Offsets your driver side weight and easier access from the ground. Have to wait to see if you used it with your sprinter.
