    You right about the three points.Sometimes field position is more valuable than three points.
    Chief’s forwards were outstanding.Reds are young team they will come again.
    Les Kiss has done great job with the Reds.Harry Wilson was missed.

      Les has done a great job, when brad thorn left i thought reds might be in a slump but les took it forward!

    The best part about kicking for a lineout is even if you knock it on or lose the lineout the territory is gained. Its hard to get out of your own half

    I think you are spot on about the 'foot on the throat' mentality in terms of going for 7 points. As a Hurricanes fan, I think we stumbled onto gold not having a 'world-class' kicker off the tee for a period, meaning we often chose this philosophy. At the time (around 2016) our team was stacked with attacking firepower in the backs and had a solid pack providing a great platform, making us so dangerous in set-piece scenarios. I think the confidence and belief the players had in themselves and their teammates created a mental edge that won us many games. It also meant we often got off to a flier, much like the Chiefs in this game, and forced opposing teams to play high-risk, high-reward rugby just to get back into the game and keep up with the speed at which we accumulated points. I genuinely believe teams should only be taking 3 points when they are trying to stall for time (ie they have a man in the bin) or at the end of games (to eat up the clock or extend the margin outside of 1 score). Would be interested to know what u think.

    • @Wildkard
      @Wildkard  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I agree, i think 3 points should only be taken at times of disadvantage or nearing the end of the game. Or if the teams defense is way too good for your attack and u couldnt score after trying.

    I think the 7 point mentality has been at the forefront for NZ rugby for sometime now being one of the initiatives to come out of the John Mitchell era. Defences are a bit subdued at pro club level so it works well when executed as such but she's a different beast at test level.
    Rule alterations aside, I think the biggest dynamic change in the way teams are shifting towards running rugby (well, more than usual that is), is that teams are fielding faster and more skilful forwards! Something I think will be a clear contrast when the rugby championship kicks off

    • @Wildkard
      @Wildkard  Před 2 měsíci

      I think the ball handling across the board has improved. And its allowing teams to smash 20 phases with no issues. Which is opening up these try opportunties

      @@Wildkard Definitely. The specialist game has changed somewhat to suit running/adaptive rugby. Sure NZers are scoring more tries but as this game has shown, the defensive end is rubbish. I see the ABs taking a bit of a hit in the defensive area this year. An area I think the Wallabies will be better at under Schmidt. If they teach their 10s how to tackle and improve their ball skills, this is gonna be a goodyear for Rugby......
      Man how good is Hoops gonna be if he's fit next year?

    Mate, Anton set the tone, the crew responded, that offload from Emoni was sublime, setting up a gimme second try for Slam, it's my pick for try of the season so far. The Red's were up against it, but kept fighting, I saw a lot to like, but I think the Chief's were unstoppable tonight, great game.

    Biggest difference in this reds pack was the lack of kicking. I think in the past we had kicked a lot more to the cheifs and put their backs under pressure but this match they almost had 2 kicks for every 1 of ours.

    • @Wildkard
      @Wildkard  Před 2 měsíci

      Thats true but kicking game has always been dangerous to play against nz counter attacks

  • @ryansimms31

    Wow!! What a absolute masterclass from the Mighty CHIEFS! Fair play to the Reds for that little comeback at the 2nd half, but the Chiefs was on top at the end. I think the man of the match goes to Chiefs no.2 Samasoi Tauk'aho. The other 2 stand outs that I Saw was No.10 Damein McKenzie, and No.13 Anton Lennert Brown.
    As a Chiefs fan myself, I notice that the new Reds Coach from this year Les Kiss, turned a 8th-place Reds team from last year in 2023, into a Quarter-Finalist team this year. I think the Mighty Chiefs will now face the Hurricanes in the Super Rugby Pasifika Semi-Finals.

    Chiefs were front foot and not deep passing consistantly all game, lovely change. Pro-active defence putting pressure on which buckled the reds early for possession and field position. A bunch of those turnover stats are squashed into the chiefs early dominance period.
    Chiefs 28points up in 22 minutes then reds lost to scoreboard pressure despite some good fight when they could have easily capitulated.
