    I like cowboy boots because:
    - no laces
    - a cubby for my legs to nest
    - the arch support
    - nice solid block heel
    - the vibe they give off

if someone tells you, you can't wear cowboy boots because you aren't a cowboy, then they need to reevaluate things.
Thats like saying you can't wear tennis shoes if you aren't a tennis player or you can't wear basketball shoes if you don't play basketball etc.

My son wears spurs for 1 thing..bull riding. They get caught on the truck seats, floor or everything they can possibly catch on. Very impractical to wear out on the town and most people would stare pretty hard unless you are in West Texas or in the high plains of course.

Wore cowboy boots as a teenager living in WV. Not the West by any means but many people wear western style clothing. Moved away after school and did not wear western boots or hats anymore but gave in to the sneakers and ball cap style for years. Got older and finally decided to wear what I wanted (age can be a good thing). I wear Alden ankle boots and western boots exclusively now. Even wear longer brimmed fedoras and western hats. Wear what you like and don't live with the "herd" mentality. When you get a certain age you realize it is about what you like and not what is in style.

There’s an employee at the local Walmart in my part of Arkansas that pushes carts in. He wears cowboy boots, spurs and cowboy hats everyday. I haven’t talked to him yet so I don’t know if he just wears them for style or if maybe he rides horses after work. During Halloween he wore the Clint Eastwood poncho and Eastwood style hat too work and of course cowboy boots and spurs.

We wear leather soled cowboy boots when we burn the stubble every year, mainly because the soles do not melt and fall apart. The heavy cowhide shaft of the boots is also useful for rubbing our jeans out when they start to smoulder or catch alight.
One of my funniest memories was the day that a guy called us idiots and tucked his jeans inside his boots. All we had to do was wait for a burning ember to drop down inside the top of his boots. It was so funny when it happened, but he was not laughing. 😃😃

There’s a picture of me at about 4 years of age wearing cowboy boots, and I’m now 60.Spurs are something that’s never crossed my mind. However,I also always wear a cowboy hat,Resistol,Stetson,or Master Hatters of Texas, plus tailor made vests with a pocket watch on a chain. That’s my style and I’m sticking with it. Spurs for date nights! Definately!!! In the house, on the deck, etc. Or in the barn!!! Out in the fields!!!
    On horseback! Or beside them!
And i have as yet not been able to find sheets that don't get kind of chewed up with them.
But I haven't tried nylon sheets--- yet!

    @GunsandGearNetwork Před 4 lety +14

A spur ridge actually comes in handy keeping your pants from dragging in the back. The "cowboy" way of wearing pants is about two inches longer than you normally wear your pants so they stack. This keeps your pants from riding up when you sit down, riding a horse, etc. The spur ridge helps them from dragging in the back. Just because it has a spur ridge and tall top does not make it a real "cowboy" boot. Lots of ranch and cowboy people wear different style boots come with tall tops, some with short tops, spur ridge, no spur ridge, riding heel, roper heel, etc. You are correct spurs are not for fashion they are for function. As they say just because you can, does not mean you should. I guess if you are playing a character like in cowboy action shooting, reenactment, etc and want to complete the look with spurs then by all means.

    • @JeremiahCraig
      @JeremiahCraig  Před 4 lety +2

The spur ridge is totally good for stacking. I agree. I love that there are so many styles so people can have them be practical in their own ways.

I started to collect spurs. I hsve an antique pair with silver enlayed engraving! Plus a modern non-rawel pair! And a pair from a buddy who was a rodeo 'cowboy of the year'--- so his are special to me!
The antique ones are way narrow so i cant wear them. But the other two pair i do, from time to time! Esp if im feeling by buddy and missing him. Like, why not? We were friends over 20 years. And i miss that friendship. A lot!
So i put his spurs on and have a day with him, once or twice a year!
    Why not!!!
After I'm dead and gone i hope someone remembers me! And thinks kind thoughts!

Cowboy boots in general are so damned cool, practical and comfortable I don't know why everybody doesn't wear them, really. Far as spurs, I wear 'em if there's any chance I'm going to be on a horse that day, which is like 70% of days. I just get so used to having spurs on that it feels funny to not have them. I wouldn't wear them just for fashion, though, because that would seem pretty fake. You do need to earn your spurs. New riders really never start out with them, as they're kind of an advanced riding aid that could get you into trouble quick if you aren't careful. The better rider you are, the less you might need spurs, and just 'cause ya got them don't mean you have to use them. I seldom do, but when I need 'em, I want them so I wear them.

And you don't have to be a cowboy to wear boots. People who say stuff like that have their own ego issues they need to deal with. I have experienced it allot in my life especially with cowboy hats and boots. Honest question for ya... are you sposered by Hondo Boots? You mention them allot and wanted to try some. Also spur heel keeps your jeans from rubbing on the ground. Spurs are best used for horses that are highly trained and they are an extension of your leg. No need to use spurs on a green horse or rider.

For example we use to make amazing lightbulbs that could last a lifetime (one is still being used today look it up 100 years) now we make them last what 1 to 3 years lol

Most cowboys and cowgirls who ride horses, work on ranches and farms usually will tell you the only time they wear spurs is when they're actually on the ranch, the farm or riding horses. They never wear spurs in public because of the dangers they pose to others.
They can impede driving habits and make for too much of a distraction in the car.
The spurs can cause serious injury to others if they just happen to accidentally "jab" somebody in the foot or leg when In close proximity to others.
The spurs themselves are merely tools to use when controlling horses and getting them respond quicker (equestrians use them quite a bit as well). But to most cowboys and cowgirls, they're not a fashion statement and should not be worn in public. This just opine only.

I hope there are no folks there with facial-cranial injuries!
Sometimes a cranial plate is removed from someone's head and the skull needs the protection of a helmet, as there is just a covering of skin over the brain--- which has the strength of Jell-o! So the head needs physical protection until reconstructive surgery can be carried out!
Wearing/carring a helmet means you are looking to steal a motorcycle??!!! Really!!!??
Perhaps carrying a valise means you are on the way to the bank to rob it? This is the very same kind of (faulty) logic!
It is just such a really dumb leap in speculation.... but whatever!
      Just truely dumbfounding 'logic'!

Wearing cowboy boots are step 1 (get it?) to being a man. It’s the first indicator that you’re a man and you may kick ass if provoked! #2 Hondo is bullshit. Stop saying that out loud. Damnit man! Make your daddy proud and wear Ariat or Dan Post for every day, Luchesse on the weekend! I’ve got several other pointers for you if you just ask. I can help you! 🤠

You're funny. Not sure where you're getting your information but here is me saying it again: Hondo is better than Ariat and Dan Post. Every. Day. Of. The. Week.
