This wasn't mentioned in the video, but I would also like to credit BillyWAR for making a TAS for Airship Armada demonstrating the collection of all of the cannonballs' coins. That video can be found here:
• [TAS] Airship Armada 4... - Hry
Never would I have expected *cannons* to be the ultimate challenge of a run like this.
Bowser cowers in fear of cannons
But they have but ONE WEAKNESS
Friendship.
(Or owning a second controller, whichever works)
@@GoldenTGB who isn’t afraid of someone dual wielding
I clicked this video thinking, "Yeah, I guess I could watch this." To being an hour in, not blinked once, just enthralled. There's sooo much to this. It's crazy.
The outro song you used from SM64 brings tears to my eyes every time
SUBTITLES ARE FINISHED NOW
Thanks to Nate, for working hard on doing them!
Wow this video is way more underrated than I expected based on it's quality, amazing job man!
Thanks a ton!
Funny how spending lots of time making a video, actually makes it better

Dude, have no idea what this comment is about. I was probably completely drunk
In all my time playing Galaxy, I never knew the secret room in Ghostly Galaxy was a thing
As a prelude to the Super Mario Galaxy Max Coin Challenge Addendum video, I'll keep track of any new coin discoveries made via this comment and edit it periodically.

ok
I'm curious as to what was discovered for each of those galaxies
@@ooc329 Here's what it looks like to me, just from the coin counts:
Gusty Garden's Gravity Scramble: An optimized route was found with the Rainbow Star that obtains every coin from the thorn bushes on the chain chomp planet. Additionally, for the two cannons that seemed to only give 2 coins, it turned out there was a way to stomp on the cannonballs right before they explode to stall them and allow cannonball C to spawn without co-star.
The Golden Chomp: A method was found to reach the last cannons of the level, then backtrack all the way to the chain chomp planet to collect the Golden Chomp star. The optimizations for Gravity Scramble also apply to this star.
Deep Dark Galaxy: A method was found to escape from the Ghost Ship section without co-star, probably involving the mega shore launch alluded to in the video. (For Bubble Blastoff and Guppy and the Underground Lake, this lets you route in the 6 coins that can only be obtained by clipping back into bounds in the ghost ship section. For Boo in a Box, this lets you switch to the Bubble Blastoff version of the level. For Plunder the Purple Coins, this lets you hunt for the gold coins from the rest of Deep Dark, although the cannon isn't available in this mission, which means the coins from the Gateway ripoff planet are still inaccessible without co-star.)
Underwater Cosmic Mario Race: Presumably, some very precise route was found that lets you detour for an extra coin and still win the race, at least when you're up against Cosmic Mario and not Cosmic Luigi.
Treasure of the Pyramid: Your guess is as good as mine, though it may involve a way to backtrack from a later portion of the normal level to reach the pyramid after collecting a few extra coins.
when is the video coming?
@@NoahRamseysGhost Production on an addendum video has not started at this time, though we have not forgotten about it! I can't really give an estimate on when it would come out though, at least not right now.
All right CZcams do your thing, Give this man the credit he deserves. This was absolutely amazing. From the editing to the pace of the video everything was perfection. The only problem I could think of would be the microphone(While it doesn't sound the greatest it does work perfectly fine), Other than that it is perfect.
19:31 while playing the game again last year, I was grabbing that multi-coin block during the boss battle, and a fireball hit Mario and caused him to repeatedly slam upward into the multi-coin block and rapidly deplete it in a second. I checked my footage and it didn't give me more than 10 coins, but it could be useful as an annoying speedrun trick.
Well, something similar happened to me. I was replaying the game and I accidentally get burned under a coin block with nearby fire, which caused me to clip through the block, it was very weird...
Funny
I'll be real, my only criticism with this video is the mic quality, though I know not everyone has the cash (heh) to get a nice one. Plus, the clipping when you were yelling made me genuinely laugh, so I'd say it was worth it.
This is a SERIOUSLY cool video, I'm glad I watched through it all. I'm surprised how thorough you were, and how involved the challenge was. I haven't really seen a lot of Galaxy challenge runs, so it was refreshing to see one pop up on my feed. Great job. You've EARNED my sub.
YOU CAN KILL THE JELLYFISH?! AND THERE’S A SECRET ROOM IN THE MANSION IN GHOSTLY GALAXY?! Galaxy is one of my favorite games of all time, and I’ve been playing it since 2007! How did I not know these things?!
1:16:00 the subtle 150/100 flex
*whistles awkwardly* 😁
17:10 LMAO mario standing there for a moment after the astrogoomba fell before jumping in with a hard cut felt really funny to me
This video is INSANELY GOOD i really hope it does and think it will blow up
most of the time these max whatever videos dont feel as researched as they should and are done by people who arent fantastic at the game but this is clear that everything said in the video is because the people involved knew what they were talking about
Galaxy 1 is the most interesting 3D Mario to do this in, at least from what I heard
Nate said, 64 and Sunshine were pretty easy/easier compared tothis
@@GoldenTGB Yeah, Super Mario 64 does have some interesting coin stories, but they're mostly related to coin duplications and the one "impossible" coin in Tiny Huge Island, both of which have been thoroughly documented already.
Sunshine also has interesting coin challenges, and actually that might make for an intriguing video as well, although it wouldn't be nearly as long as this one since there's only 8 high scores in that game. Also the raw gameplay for Sunshine's max coins is overall more tedious because you can get 999 coins in half of the levels.
9:17 immediately thinking about how the battlerock cannons give coins
It was an honor getting to work with you on this project, Golden! Thanks for putting up with me over the course of these months!
To answer the questions you asked in the outro, the hardest max coin challenge actually appears to NOT be Airship Armada anymore, but is actually Gusty Garden's "The Golden Chomp"...! [This one is WILD!]
As for my favorite max coin challenge, I have fond memories of doing several of these missions, but I remember doing "Mario Meets Mario" while having a stupid grin on my face the whole time since I had just figured out how the tox box launch trick works. It is really fun!
Damn... Never thought I'd watch a 2 hour long video about collecting coins in a video game but here we are.
This was really entertaining the whole way through and I can't wait to see more of these projects. Perhaps a galaxy 2 max coin challenge?
This was an awesome video my dude. Please make more cool stuff like this!!! Also the HGSS startup sound in your intro was an amazing touch
a 2 hour video talking about Super Mario Galaxy? Count me in!
solid video, the amount of time that must've gone into doing all this had to have been crazy, I applaud everyone who put time into doing all these strats as well as working on this monster of a video.
It's so cool seeing how alive the community of this is after all this time!
im not actively watching the video but it's perfect for background noise
You are so much more dedicated than anyone else who has ever tried a challenge like this. Most people would’ve given up super early in levels like battle rock or ghostly galaxy but you pushed through and I respect that
fun fact just like most Mario games getting 100 coins you will get a 1up.(unlike star bits)
I love the subtitle editor easteregg, never seen that before
❤
Thank you1 I swear this video is the only acknowledgment of SMG max coin, even though max coin 64 and sunshine are (were) super popular.
I tried to get into this challenge about a year ago, but got bored real quick. I got started again yesterday so I found this video, good on you!
1:22:25 This part of the planet can also be reached with a backflip followed by a wall jump, as there is a ledge to the left of the three loose coins that is a bit lower than the larger platform right next to it. I mention this only because getting to it is most likely less precise than a well-placed triple jump.
Yeah, I found out afterwards that I was accessing the upper area using a WAY more difficult method than I needed to... 😅
the amount of work that went into this video is crazy!
I remember attempting this casually and being very annoyed by coins falling into the void in Battlerock, but figured getting theme was impossible
This video went into lots of detail, had great editing, and was easy to understand. Very high quality. Hopefully, we will get another one of these videos for Super Mario Galaxy 2.
Amazing video, really helps show the extensive work and tricks used to obtain all these coin records. It’s fun to know I was recognized in this video, even by small standards. I will say I was also the person to first realistically understand and explain the cannon mechanics, but both you and Nate have brought it up a notch.
I used to be the one to hold the most max coin records before being beaten by Altar and then Nate. I still am somewhat keeping up with the new coin OOBs and mechanics and I hope to find new ways to obtain more.
Thank you algorithm for this absolute gem.
There are also a lot of coins on inaccessible planets for some reason that Swanky Box keeps finding.
UNBELIEVABLY interesting challenge, so many more cool glitches and tricks than i coulda ever expected. huge respect for you doing all of these, especially airship armada. really cool video :)
how does this video only have 17k views!?
And you only have 395 subs!??
Insanely underrated.
How does this absolute madman have only 580 subscribers??? This man deserves 100k at LEAST! Ceave Gaming wishes he could be you man.
Awesome video, this deserves to blow up and im willing to bet its going to! This was one of my favorite games back in the day and im glad so many people are still playing/making content on it today
I remember doing some of these levels last year for Cyberscore. Nathaniel's videos were extremely helpful! My favorite mission personally was the second mission of Space Junk galaxy. Mainly because of the out of bounds exploit. Nathaniel was also very supportive throughout my journey too. By the way, if you're looking for other coin videos, I heard Sunshine's coin missions also have a good amount of glitches and such to cover as well. This video is absolutely incredible, thanks for making this 😃
I'm quite impressed with how entertaining these nearly two hours were to watch. Thank you so much!
Great work on this challenge, you spent a lot of time working on it. For some reason I really liked the outro, it really shows how tough it was making this video. and you both have good conversation, you should do more collabs moving forward too. These challenge videos are amazing whether it's no coin challenges or max coin challenges.
A Super Mario Sunshine coin video may or may not be a thing in the future... 😉
Ah ah, you brought back my memories of the time I did just that, without any outside knowledge mind you, but I did for instance knew shooting starbits at explosives gave coins, so I tried to max everything.
I remember my brother making a comment that, during that period, he would keep hearing coins even after I turned the game off.
720 followers? This is "50k+ youtubers" content. Great job man, and thanks for the subtitles, a nice addition that often goes unoticed!!
How does this not more views, the work done in this video is amazing, both actually getting the coins and making an amazing video and guide. May the CZcams algorithm gods shine upon you, as you deserve it!
Underrated CZcamsr asap you need some subscribers
i love watching speedruns explained, this came up and I'm not disappointed
Super Mario Galaxy is the most nostalgic Mario game for me, and I often feel like it doesn't get as much attention in speedrunning, challenges, ect, as other Mario games like sunshine or 64. This is a Super video, and as someone who's really only played casually, the tricks and techniques in this video are crazy amazing. Pushing the boundaries of what is possible, not accepting defeat or limitations, the whole team of people required to make this video are Super Cool People. Thank you so much The Golden Block and Nathaniel Smith - you deserve so much more recognition for this feat. Good luck in all your future gaming and or CZcams endeavors!
oh! and to go through and do custom subtitles - y'all are real MVP's
Good shit. I'd give up in the first king caliente fight
I've been playing smg again and I thought about a max coin run, thank you for making this a reality! I can't imagine the pain of some of these levels,,
awesome video my guy, great watch!
a 2 hour video about mario galaxy? ....thank you
As a lover of SMG (and speedrunner), I loved watching this video. Great humor throughout and you definitely know what you’re talking about! ❤
Watched the whole thing. Very good video!
This video was great, really loved all the different pieces of theory crafting and thinking outside the box (which is one of my favourite things about challenge runs).
Incredibly underrated video, definitely deserves more views as you did something incredibly ambitious despite your smaller size.
That Battlerock looks like a Coinightmare.
HOW DOES THIS ONLY HAVE 11K VIEWS
45 minutes in and I can already congratulate you for the effort and editing, awesome video. The stars on Batterock left me exasperated the entire time, can't even imagine what they did to your sanity
Battlerock's cannons actually made me take a break for a whole year because of how daunting they were!
Damn I'm glad I kept getting recommended this video. It's a real treat. 💝
awesome video! i would have thought for sure that battlerock was impossible to get all the coins
I used to do mega jumps all the time on the green star planet! Spent hours there trying to do them, not knowing that was what was happening
i can only imagine there are some really hidden coins lol. good job for finding so many!
I just realized Nintendo predicted bombbirder from Pokemon with that bird that drops bombs
The hgss sound at the beginning game me so much nostalgia
39:23 Tip: if you do a Ground Pound right between the ground and the breaking ground Mario will break it and stay on the edge, giving you more time to collect that coin.
Nice tip!
Absoutely loved this video!! Such an cool challenge and its crazy how complex this game could be lol. And the video was very enjoyable to watch, earned my sub and respect for this insane feat :)
You deserve a lot more subscribers for this. The amount of pain you went through to do this is beyond me. keep up the amazing work!
This game is literally perfect
Super interesting video. I'm definitely sticking around for more.
This video rules man, great stuff! I cannot beleive that this is the first full video on this channel. Im so exited to see more!
Incredible work! I got suggested this by the algorithm so I hope your channel is about to blow up
That’s sped up star theme is now ingrained in my mind
Dude this probably took extremely long to make! Mad respect! 👍
Incredibly well made video, especially for how few subs you have. I hope you blow up in popularity soon
Great vid, dude (: these mario galaxy videos are great
This is really awesome. Can't wait for the Galaxy 2 video. /j I'm surprised there weren't any levels that had an infinite coin glitch to get to the max of 999 or whatever. Do you have a spreadsheet available for this? I would be interested to see that, also which levels had a possible cap that is lower than the number that exists in the stage. Iirc it was just a few, mostly the cosmic races.
Also would there be any way to make the lilly pads go horizontally? That might help in some of the Honey hive stages.
I made my own Excel sheet when I was working on the challenge, but Dendonodon made his own that is more comprehensive and can be found here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ty8joCwpS7RIiW8Zek5QLLHeoGPksc3wWTov8o5Loko/edit?usp=sharing
It turns out that there are a lot of missions that feature coins in entirely inaccessible areas. For instance, there are coins inside the capsule planet during Purple Coin Omelet, but there's no known way of getting to and from that planet to get the coins inside.
As for the lily pad trick, I wouldn't really know since I didn't discover it. That would be "A Good Duck".
Honeyhive 1 is the only reason I’d recommend the switch version over the OG Wii version… unless shaking the remote a billion times is your thing…
Dude I’ve been binging your challenge videos and I’ve gotta say you desperately deserve more subs. Keep up the good work man ❤
Amazing video! This deserves way more recognition!
Amazing video!
Bro, you earned my respect and my subscription. Galaxy is probably the best Mario game, so props to you,
You should hide from NicoBBQ and Nathanial Bandy now. You got all the coins, which Nico doesn't like, and you got all the coins, which Nathanial was probably going to do.
And there was even a "Nathaniel" that worked on this project too!
...wait a minute...
43:10 this dude got every purple coin and expected us not to notice
Gems on smaller channels hurt my soul. I hope you get the sucess you clearly deserve.
Great video, I will subscribe so I can say I was the 114th sub! Cannot wait for the next videos
Might be a while, but rest assured, a video is hopefully coming soon
this video was has so much detail in it, keep up the amazing work
Checkpoints are the bane of this challenge
this must’ve been painful
6:48 Wait... You could defeat those lava bubbles with star bits?!
And I have been playing this games for over 15 years 😅
Good job to everyone involved! Really good video
Good work GB. Your effort and commitment shine through.
The thing with the Lillypads is pretty interesting!
And I never knew you could get a Boost for the races, wow
This video is well made! It's shocking how this doesn't have more views and for you, subs! Hope it gets more traction.
1:35:30- wait, the moving platform RESPAWNS?!
This is an absolute masterpiece of a video. Deserves so much recognition.
Great video, and I can’t decide if a new trick giving access to more coins would make me happy or sad considering how perfect the coin count is
Well, considering it's already been done, maybe the new total will also be a cool number? 😅
I've always wondered about this, thank you!
This must have taken ages! So impressive
This is an interesting idea, you’re really underrated, subbed
What a great video!! Really surprised from the quality, it feels like you would be some kind of 100,000 challenge video CZcamsr with videos like this!!
Of course... Now I will have to look forward to an eventual Mario Galaxy 2 Max Coins, knowing how powerful the Orange Luma is would make that one painful though
This should be a speed run category. Imagine all the crazy optimizations or a TAS
You're crazy man! Excellent job and video
Great video! Can't wait for Super Mario Galaxy 2's max coins challenge
Fantastic video! I really enjoyed it. I've been keeping up with the videos that Nathaniel Smith sends in the cyberscore discord, but really didnt know much about how hard this game could be. I've done most of Galaxy 2 max coins and that game is mainly just time consuming since many galaxies can get 999 coins. Thank you and congratulations for making this video! It was a fantastic watch!
Thank you. I was really certain that more people would bring up Galaxy 2
I might do that if there's demand for it
But I don't think it would be that fun of a video compared to Galaxy 1, if more then half of the galaxies were just "there's a trick to get infinite coins"
I personally haven't looked into it
Thanks for the support!
I'm currently taking a bit of a break from Galaxy max coin stuff (simply because I've been doing it for a while at this point), but I'm planning on doing more coin collection after a fair number of new discoveries get made in preparation for the addendum video!
