Great Video ! You are 110% These 80s Live Albums should be remastered down to one CD with some new versions as a Bonus ! Scorpions, Maiden, Priest who is this Anthoney Gonzalez he sounds more Rock n Roll than KISS !!

The powerslave tour was, at the time, the biggest tour maiden ever made , in number of concerts. Maybe Bruce was tired in Long Beach. The side D , recorded in 1984 at beginning of the tour, Bruce was fresher.

I’m with you 100% on BEAST OVER HAMMERSMITH. If you put a gun to my head, probably my favorite Maiden album, period. Still has the Clive Burr vibe, it’s early Bruce so it’s the closest to Di’Anno Maiden without actually being one, if that makes any sense.
I really enjoyed this track by track. Love both albums but give the edge to Maiden. Wish “Locked In” was on the Priest album, it did make the video. A much better song than “Parental Guidance.”

Live After Death wins, hands down. That album means so much to me. I’ve got the same version like you have, with the awesome booklet and everything (got it in like 1988) when I was 12.

Sorry, Ralph , but I must say that live after death it’s the best metal live album ever. Priest Live… welll… I dig it! Love the fact they kick start the gig with Out in the cold! What a great opening track! My favorite priest live album is Unleashed in the East! That one is killer!!! But Live after Death? Colossal!!!!!

The Hammersmith 1982 live show is much better than Live After Death for me as well. Maiden Japan is better as well. I wish that they released the full length show instead of an EP. I got the full length version as well, and it is amazing. Maiden and Priest are my two favorite bands ever, and have been for over 35 years. I grew up listening to Live After Death and Priest Live big time as a little kid. Unleashed In The East is the Masterpiece live album by Judas Priest, but I do enjoy Priest Live as well. Excellent track by track Dr Fukk!

You're spot on about Bruce's vocals on this! Totally fried, and he won't shut up during instrumental sections. He definitely sounded better in 2000. They recorded Hammersmith in 1984 and they should have released that one in full, not just side 4.

I saw the Powerslave Tour in Rochester NY and Accept opened for them. Incredible show. I saw Somewhere in Time tour in Philadelphia and Yngwie Malmsteen opened for them. 2 of my favorite concerts. I saw Priest on the Turbo tour. I owned both of those albums and I can't choose which I liked better. I gotta say Maiden won with my track by track but while I love Maiden, I am more of a Priest fan. I agree that Parental Guidance is a stinker and why in Gods name did they put that on the live album when they had so many awesome tunes that weren't on Unleashed in the East.

I don't mind Bruce's voice on Live After Death. Where Bruce REALLY, and i mean REALLY sounds bad, is that terrible Maiden England 88 live album. That one is a massive yikers. Should've been an amazing tour, but poor Bruce was really struggling. No wonder he turned to a raspier vocal style on No Prayer and Fear of the Dark.
Priest Live rules. Phenomenal live album. And im one of those mofos that loves Turbo, so that tour will always be one of my favorites.

I haven’t listened to Priest Love in years but it was better than it sometimes gets credit for. I’m a bigger Priest fan, but I like Live After Death better. Let’s see:
    Aces High
Heading out to the highway (tough)
    Metal gods
    Revelations
    Love bites
    Rime of the ancient mariner
    The Sentinel
    Beast
    hallowed Be Thy Name
    Electric eye
    Turbo lover
    Freewheel burning
    22 acacia avenue
    Children of the damned
    You got another thing comin
    Screaming for vengeance
    Maiden -7 Priest 9
    Oops missed the bonus songs.

Live after death seems like the end of the era. You are right they were never the same after powerslave, which is a fantastic album. Occasional good album but not consistent since 85. Live after death is the greatest live album I have ever heard. Judas Priest sounded better on vengeance or faith tours but it’s still a good album as it’s the mighty priest.

I'm very much a Priest guy, but on that live album I never liked the sound production. Way too muffled for my liking. But the tour was great. I've seen Maiden on the SiT tour, but the Priest Turbo tour left a much better imprint in my memory.

i was a maiden fan from killers to live after death. i can't enjoy seventh son; or pretty much anything since; but i do have a copy of no prayer for the dying on cassette tape in mints condition;and i agree it rocked harder than most of the long song junk from later albums. the only long song i like from maiden is rime of the ainchient mariner...

I totally agree. Bruce sounds horrible on Live After Death. I've always hated it when bands decide to record their live albums at the end of a tour. it never sounds good because everyone is exhausted by then especially the vocalist. also my favorite live album by Iron Maiden is Maiden Japan. Paul sounds excellent and so does the rest of the band. also I think Maiden Japan has Paul's best vocal performance ever with the live versions of Strange World and Purgatory. also I highly recommend getting the CD bootleg. it has the entire setlist from that show and not just the five songs that are on the office vinyl release.

Live After Death is superior by far. The live Priest album even thou I like it, to my ears, is too bass frequency heavy. The Powerslave tour was intense and yeah Bruce's voice was road weary. At least they weren't lip syncing.

  • @godetonter4764
    @godetonter4764 Před 2 lety

Other than Metal Gods both albums were disappointing. Bruce Dickinson sounds weak on Live After Death but the band sounds great, on the Judas Priest Live Halford sounds great and the band played too safe and commercial. Kind of interesting how bands change their sound even when doing old songs to accommodate the style of their latest album. Judas Priest Live should have been called Judas Priest's Live Hair Metal Album

  • @godetonter4764
    @godetonter4764 Před 2 lety

I thought that the first 3 albums were really good and Heavy. Basically Number of the Beast was raw as the first 2 . By Piece of Mind they got too fanciful and artsy . I thought that Paul Dianno had a better Voice for ballads and early on had a more aggressive approach to the Vocals on Number of the Beast. I never cared for Live After Death because the guitars were cleaner than the studio versions, and the Vocals were not very good

Well Doc, when you call it you usually call it right. As big of a Priest fan as I am, I really do not like this live album. My favorite by far is Unleashed in the East. This Maiden live album, not the greatest either, but I do like it a bit better. I'm with you on Another thing Coming. It is just god awful. I hated it when it came out, and I think I hate it even more now. I know live its a fan favorite, something I just do not get. On an unrelated topic, I know you will probably do a review on it, so I wont say much. I heard the new Ozzy song today, Patient number 9. Ummm, Hmmm.
