      His opponent was literally standing at the allies. Serve angles don’t get that extreme, even at the professional doubles level. Besides, even if he returned that serve he would be too much at a disadvantage.

      @@CL2- tbf haven't seen any of his clay matches but he seems to lose in straight sets often and doesn't hold serve consistently, on HC he's so proficient at serving right handers off the court on the ad side but I'm guessing there's less of that on clay and average baseline power ..his win percentage is like .350 on clay and probably like .550ish on other surfaces lmao

      he’s left handed serving into a righty backhand while medvedev is right handed serving into a righty forehand, plus left handers do this type of serve very often while right handers almost never do it.

      its not used often because if you hit it too central its going straight to the opponents forehand and you give them a wide open court

    • @SJ-di5zu
      @SJ-di5zu Před 17 dny +1

      @@MrRandoYeah the big issue is the amount of open court you give up. You never want to start the point standing almost in the doubles alley.
      It’s definitely more viable on the ad-side (against a righty) because at least you’re going to their backhand which they may not feel confident taking down the line. But you also need to have a strong kick serve you’re comfortable using.
      Overall it’s a changeup tactic that could be used a bit more often, but it’s understandable why the pros barely use it

    • @forestgump768
      @forestgump768 Před 17 dny +4

      On a technical level, the returner should cover that angle by moving forward and cutting the ball off before it gets to far off the court. As previously noted, the other side of the court is wide open. AND it's a low percentage serve (highest part of the net and shortest part of the court).
      It's a great shot to pull out as a change up.
