    I work in videogames. EA top teams are 100% influenced by marketing and how popular their brand is. Schools without a lot of name recognition among their target demographic are getting bumped down and vice versa. In general, really good teams have name recognition from winning a lot but there are definitely outliers like Colorado. Would love the option to customize a team and a correct the stats into something more realistic.

  • @joeyhenriques7289
    @joeyhenriques7289 Před 2 dny +14

    As an Oregon fan, I think the reason why a lot of people have that mindset that Dan Lanning can’t go over the hump and never will is because Oregon itself has been a program that’s never been able to get over the hump for years now. Whether it’s Mario or Chip or even Mike Bellotti, Oregon had a history of riding high and then falling short at the most inopportune moments year after year. So people just want to automatically lump Lanning into that and say that he isn’t going to do anything at Oregon because nobody’s done anything at Oregon. (When I say that, I mean that no coach has even won a national championship at Oregon. Just clarifying since that’s the ceiling that most people judge coaches and teams on these days.) Now, as somebody who’s been paying attention to the moves that Dan’s been making towards the defense this offseason, I have a strong feeling that that’s no longer going to be the case. I won’t say it’ll be next year, but I wouldn’t at all be surprised if in the next couple of years, Oregon will finally have itself a ring and a shiny gold trophy thanks to Dan Lanning.

    • @ljhookem14
      @ljhookem14 Před 2 dny +2

      This is exactly right. Oregon’s past means nothing to what Lanning can do from year to year and I’ll never understand that logic from some. I think Lanning has got something going at Oregon no doubt and will be a team nobody is likely wanting to play in the playoffs.
      There’s about 5-6 teams like that this year that have some crazy talented rosters.

    • @Britton_Thompson
      @Britton_Thompson Před 2 dny

      @@ljhookem14Normally, that's a good rebuttal. However, college football isn't like most other things. Since 1936, only 32 schools out of 130+ have won national championships. And if you look at who's won them since integration in 1970, it's only been 20, and they've primarily come from the South. Once you remove Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame, and Washington, the rest reside below the Mason Dixon line (I'm including USC in this since they're below the same parallel on the map).
      Obviously, it's not impossible to break in and join that club, but the history of the sport tells us the same schools keep winning it over and over and hoarding it from the rest. We haven't had a first time national champion in nearly 30 years- Florida, in 1996. Again, another Southern school.
      I can't really fault fans for saying some places will never win one. At this point, the best predictor of future national championships is past national championships.

    I completely agree with your points regarding academics and tv markets. If I were the SEC, my goal would be to add fanbases who would throw their mothers in front of trains to get a win any given week. FSU, Clemson, & Virginia Tech all fit the bill there. Cowbells vs the tomahawk chop. Sandstorm vs Enter Sandman. Dueling Death Valleys. Add whoever you like in that 4th spot, no conference in America is touching the inventory the SEC would boast.
    The SEC’s superpower in an era of super conferences will be passion & regionality. CBS can shell out all the money in the world to air 3 hour images of completely empty stadiums when Rutgers travels to UCLA or Washington heads to Indiana. Meanwhile everyone from Moscow, Idaho to the Kremlin would be racing to their nearest streaming device to see the vast majority of SEC games week in and week out.

    As a Tennessee fan, knowing that we have finished in the tope 15 the last few seasons, and recruited about 15th, this bothers me. However, if this is about getting rankings right at the end of the season I get it. Tennessee has averaged about 15th in recruiting but unlike the big 12, acc or even parts of the big 10, this makes tennessee the 4th -6th best recruited team on their schedule in a given year. Colorado doesn't face that. If they recruited at the level Tennessee does, they would have one or two difficult games in their season. Like Clemson a couple years ago was the second highest ranked team in the ACC, and got splattered by a Tennessee team missing most of their starters including their starting QB.
    It would be silly on EA to power rank the teams in a way that does not create some parity amoung the conferences, because its a game. So it doesnt bother me.
    However the most suprising omission from that list was not Tennessee. It was Michigan the defending champs were not on the list either!

    First of all, no way the SEC gets more than twice asany teams as the B1G. So, we know that there will be at least four non-SEC spots filled. That leaves eight left. If the SEC gets six spots, the B1G gets three total, then there are none left for anyone else, including Notre Dame. Highly unlikely. Most SEC gets are five total, regardless of what their records are

    Let’s also remember UT lost 11 players to the NFL and we are talking multiple first round guys and guys at the most important positions like DT. Why does no one talk about that and the fact OU has the most returning on the defensive side in the SEC? We arent talking about returning a bad defense either. We have high round draft picks at every level for this next draft and every single player that will play on defense are NFL caliber players they just won’t be eligible for the draft yet. There is a lot more to be positive about rather than constantly talking about we have to replace everyone on the OL. We aren’t playing guys on the OL that haven’t been high production starters because we are. We aren’t talking about playing a bunch of freshmen without any experience. Every guys who will play on the line are highly rated and/or have been highly productive college players already. So sure we replace everyone on the line but we upgraded at a couple of places and we have talented guys who will be playing even if they haven’t started full time yet. Everyone who will be on the OL will have starts under them with a couple that have been 1st team all conference guys as well as all freshman teams nationally. There won’t be a young inexperienced guy who will start so it’s not nearly as bad of a situation going into the season that most people make it to be. Sure they haven’t played or started together but they all have played and some have started. We will be just fine especially with a top 3 OL coach who does nothing but put elite guys into the NFL that are also elite NFL players.

    I think the reason why everyone is so much more interested in Texas than Oklahoma is because of the UT fanbase. They have always been massive, loud, and obnoxious, but in between 2009 and last year they grew incredibly hungry. But now they have actual reason to hoot and holler all the day long about how UT is back and here to stay, and you have to listen to them based on results.
    Oklahoma fans are fewer in number and they don’t feel the need to talk as much because their record speaks for itself. Also OU is kinda in the position Oregon is in where everyone knows they can be a contender but unless they get to or win the natty it won’t create the same impact as the drastic improvement of UT.
