Defense is improved. Whether Holl is a healthy scratch or not, he's a non factor. That leaves mo, Ed, Albert, chairot, gus, maatta and petry. There is nothing more to be done. That is an improvement from last year because of the arrivals of Ed and Albert

@@williamaaron8177 I don't believe so, but he's a RFA. My guess is he'll get another low-dollar one-year deal. I think I'd bring him back. He has some size, he's cheap, he's versatile, he has NHL experience, and there's no need to try and rush a center prospect like Kasper or Danielson. Rasmussen and Fischer can play center, but I think Veleno makes sense at 4C next year. With Motte-Veleno-Fischer, you get a lot of great NHL qualities at bargain basement prices. You have to save money somewhere: this is pretty nice fourth line, so I'm shifting my focus to an upgrade on the right side of the defense. After Seider, it gets BLEAK (think: having to play Petry and Holl every night, unless you move Chiarot over there). Speaking of Chiarot, one of his best attributes is versatility - the metrics don't really capture that. He had a nice bounce back year, so let's try and keep that momentum going by thinking positive thoughts!!!

Unfortunately if you do that, you'd have Copp at 5.6m on the fourth line unless you moved him to one of the wings, and then there would be a logjam at center and Kasper and Danielson wouldn't have the opportunity to break the roster

@@joextreme Still have to lock up Seider and Ray Ray, I would think there's at least another 14-15m in cap hit sitting there with around 5m-ish leftover to play with and have a good cushion. There's very little chance Marner signs with anyone for under 11m/Y.
@@VermilionMk.1 Yeah, not sure what we have thus far is any better than what we had last season although tarasenko can bring somewhat of an offense, but BErggren wasn't playing as good at the beginning of last season and was sent down for development, hopefully he can add more of an offensive punch, but he will be stuck on the 4th line. I liked Daniel Sprong, not sure why he isn't our 13th forward with Motte, but I heard St Louis may sign him.
@joextreme The team this year is extremely similar to last year, but we've traded some offense for a bit more defense. If Cat can convert more expected goals into goals then we may be looking better on that end, but defense wins games. Personally I think we're going to be in the 87-93 point range this season, just based on what's on paper, but I'm also hedging some bets that Cat has a breakout year and we get some more scoring from Seider.
Wouldn't say I'm one to drink the coolaide, but I have faith that Stevie is setting us up for long term, sustainable success.
Tarasenko is a mercenary, but he delivers when it counts.

And Compher doesn't set the world on fire as a 2C but I thought he did great work 1st half of the year last year that a was part of our offense rolling like it was. It's a great addition.. you can't form a championship team having nothing but young guys.. at some point you need to surround your younger guys with winning veterans to teach them and to also carry a certain portion of the weight.. that's with any sport.. simple hockey analytics
