Despite having a lot of hours in this game I never realized that I could just give my front line ranged weapons and the importance of placing strong guys in the flanks

Placing strong units on the flanks is something I learned from Sun Tzu and ancient armies. Hannibal Barca defeated the Romans at Cannae with inferior numbers too, but placed his stronger soldiers on the flanks.
@@CptZhu as I understand, enemy units charge for the lower defense stat guys, so having the weaker guys in the middle and the stronger guys on the side creates a kind of bear trap funnel that you can close in and surround the enemy easily. It also protects your weaker range hybrids like in this video.
@@sci7zo correct. And those hybrids are indeed better protected and being bought more time this way if they get through your formation. The nice thing is that pure ranged builds would absolutely get ANNIHILATED in this same scenario, while my hybrids tanked and dodged a good dozen of hits, and fought back fiercely
Never thought to give crossbows to the Frontline. Makes so much sense since it's only 3 ap. Gamechanger.
Exactly! And they can be shot in pointblank range, unlike bows and throwing weapons.
@@CptZhu is it worth it on lower stat brothers? Like the early game "you're lucky if you get 40 range" frontliners?
@@sci7zo if you have quickhands, yes. Especially early game when rounds are usually over and decided after 3-4 rounds, and stamina isn't that important yet
It's more for pulling enemies to you so you may have a stronger formation when the fighting starts.

I really wish they would add tiers of banners just like everything else. It's such a lousy late game weapon.
@@raifsevrence It should be upgraded as the prestige of your company grows imo. Inspiring the men even more. Just like a legionary standard the Romans used. Maybe give things like +3 melee defense in an aura or something!

If you like hybrid builds, there is a utility mod for bb that allows you to switch items quickly with numeric keys, without entering item menu during fight, along with many other improvements. Name is Autopilot, hope it helps!

Nice Fight!! you where very lucky triggering the mass rout, luckily the warlord was not positioned on the left flank the fight may have taken to the worst if he buffed the majority of the fighters. The fight was great thank you for sharing !!!!

Every frontliner in my team gets Quick Hands and Pathfinder to maximize offensive ability....yet I never thought to equip ranged weapons to start. I always either waited or moved to a more advantagious position on those awkward turns where the enemy is outside of one tile movement plus reach weapon range. And I equipped a dagger in the extra pocket (which I never used!).
But ranged weapons make so much sense - if the enemy is out of melée range you can take a free crossbow shot and when they do come into range, Quick Hands to Two Handed or Reach Weapon. Even with 30-40 range skill on the whole frontline, you'll get some lucky hits - completely free damage! Brilliant!

Interesting to see ranged weapons on the front line. I use old tactics of spear and shield on the front and javelins in the rear, so I learned something new.

I just tried for 4-5 hours to clear 22 orcs with same type ratio on day 150 and couldn’t do it. Learned a lot from this video! Makes me feel like I need to find new bros. I only have 3 pure ranged that die quick. Not all my 2 handers have the ranged variant wep. Also not all of them have quick hands. A lot I gotta change :( it’ll take a while to find good bros like the ones I saw here. Looking forward to watching your other vids too! Really interesting ideas
What a great vid! I never realized a ranged hybrid like the ones you showed were possible. I would just assume they are too stat intensive.
Probably one of the more rare builds which indeed does require a good brother with good base stats. These kind of brothers are rare, but once you spot them, you can build them into these hybrid beasts.

Oof bows against heavy armor orcs sounds rough. at least you can overwhelm them a bit
i got Crossbows too but they went through my Backline anyways due to Bad positioning
A man splitter ended my game about 87 days in, rolled a perfect 1 on my main char head and deleted him on the 2nd round while on quarter hp.
my guy rocking 108 hp, 210 helmet, steel brow n battle forged, absolutely decimated.

Im always trying to learn more about this game. Why would you have crossbows in the front and give them two different non equipped items with the heaviest of armor? That sounds like a recipe for constant fatigue
The idea is that you want your bro's to be fatigue neutral. If you're not familiar with that it means that they don't use more stamina per turn than what they would gain, which let's them act every turn. Balancing that means you can have really low fatigue on your heaviest armor bros and they'll never have to skip a turn.
Usually the fight ends in the first 3-5 turns. I like being able to fire a volley of deadly crossbow bolts into the enemies and injuring them or softening up their armor/morale before they hit my line. You can even shoot crossbows from point blank range, which only costs 3 AP. An attack with a 2H weapon usually costs 6 AP, so usually I get to shoot another and then one pointblank, quickhands into 2H and get another attack. This fight was an exception as the fight was very long, but I still wanted to showcase this playstyle. For the 3rd weapon, it's a 2 tile ranged 2H (poleaxe, polemace or polehammer) which synergizes incredibly well with quickhands, and gives your 2handers incredible mobility and reach.

@@CptZhu Watching this through a second time to look more closely at the builds and breakdowns to fully understand the theory. Finally noticed Wilderich has 13 perk points. Have you gone the other way with the Sunken Library ? I haven't beaten it yet on my current playthrough. I am pretty torn on whether I want the shield or the potions. I only have 1 real tank at this point in my playthrough and I only bring him out when I fight lindwurms or big groups of unholds.
@@raifsevrence Wilderich has some flair perks like executioner and crippling stikes, which aren't that important or game changing. I too always have 1 dedicated tank for lindwurms. Those things are a menace.
Man I remember my first encounter with the orcs I was very surprised there were orcs in the game then they proceeded to obliterate my ass cause they can run towards you and stun you very scary experience

Will you at some point make campaign playthroughs (extreme E/E/L or based V/V/M) with various scenarios (gladiators, militia, barbs etc)?
Or something that might help new players to understand what to do in game(or at least to not immediately die)?

loved the video, should i keep equipping my first line with shields and maces or should i switch to two handed weapons and maybe mix it with javelins, i started playing like three days ago so any advice is welcome lmao
In the early game, shield as frontline is fine with a few polearms in the backline. However you want to transition to BF 2handers in the lategame or you will get roflstomped by these orcs, and undead
Just speaking out for desires. You should make a play through video with a little more stress on rp. I would totally watch that

Carsten 'the Swordmaster', runs with a massive 2H mace.
yeah haha. swordmasters were probably Ser Arthur Dayne's or Jaime Lannisters back in their prime days. But when they get old, I think Roleplay wise they still have the hand coordination and strength, but not stamina anymore. So they choose a big weapon to smash with one time for devastating damage

I am shocked that your brothers actualy hit and the orcs miss the attacks, man i think i am very unlucky, because with a brother 90 attack and 40 defense he missed much more than hit, and get hit much more than evade... Even on easy mode.
i know im late to the party here. im new to the game so im not sure on all the mechanics or whatever but some of your guys with xbows have very little ranged attack. Do they still get good hits or mostly miss?
And Kurt has 12 perks? did he also sample the jug?
No wonder you can't use quick hands to switch between two two handed melee weapons in Legends! xD
just one question, how does your lone wolf have 13 perks? The only way I can think of getting another perk beyond veteran level is through the mysterious jug, which i think is a one-time use item

Overcapped lvl, mod for extra perks or something. Not a big deal
I had the lonewolf with the moderate veteran buff (1 extra perk every three levels). The rest were not benefitting from this, I still think that the tips in this video are helpful. Hope you still enjoyed the video, and sorry if you didn't.
