The 3.6 l V8 diesel engine (368DT) which has 2 turbochargers can be often found in the first generation Range Rover Sport and in the facelifted Range Rover L322. This engine can have numerous issues like the split intercooler hoses, EGR issues or faulty turbochargers. But the valve covers of this engine can have their own issues as well: specifically leaking valve cover gaskets and cracked valve covers causing a boost leak. This video focuses mainly on the valve cover issues and the pitfalls of removing them, but air suspension problems, rust issues and gearbox issues are mentioned as well.

Well...i have had lr322 tdv8 for 4 years now with no issues. The car has 276000 km on it and works perfect. The ride is classy, car is silent and it is almost impossible to get stuck in mud or snow. You just have to take care of this fine cars and they will last as long as any other cars.

Air strut wear is a common issue in all cars with air suspension. It is so common that traditional manufacturers of air struts for heavy duty vehicles are now focused on light cars (here in Spain there are several companies)

      I have a 2010, it’s an amazing car
YES it WILL go wrong and that’s a reality you must be prepared for.
If you can find a good mechanic who can look after the car it doesn’t need to cost a small fortune
I had to replace the transfer box, it cost £900 for a 2nd hand part all fitted.
I still love the car. It’s like having a relationship with an abusive girlfriend, you love her but you just hope she will stop kicking you in the family jewels. Things can only get better right?

Easy fix to prevent 3.6 TDV8 turbo failures is an EGR delete -basically remove EGR valves and fit blanking plugs together with a software tweak to prevent engine limb mode & engine check light conditions - available cheaply on eb-y via cheap shadowed Ford software
this simple EGR delete Improves fuel consumption to a genuine regular 30-33 mpg @ 50 mph on long runs - turbo failure is known to be caused by the EGR valves sooting up and overpressuring the turbos - excess soot is probably due to running on cheap supermarket diesel 😬🤦‍♂️
If You can afford to run on expensive BP Optimax diesel it will probably overcome this scenario 🙃
These high mileage 3.6 TDV8 run noticeably better on BP Optimax eliminating smoke on cold start altogether & making them noticeable more responsive when towing hard 👍
My favourite 2007 3.6 TDV8 was regularly obtaining 36-39 mpg ( not when towing)
for over 20K + miles- I had tweaked her with EGR delete-CAT delete & straight thru s/s sports exhaust which achieved these genuine mid 30's mpg figures & it sounded awesome 🤠...

It's a complex car. When bought used, people either don't service it properly all or at or use cheap Chinese parts that fail early. What do you expect if you do that ? No car is perfect, even Japanese ones. They have problems too. It's easy to be negative when you don't own one isn't it ? I have had various Land Rovers for 30 years. Nearly every fault, and there have not been many in 300,000 miles - 500,000km has been due to lack of servicing or incorrect parts.

1st thing. Remove the oil and flush then good new oil on new ownership.all of it. In everything. Diffs . trans. Engine. gearbox. New filters. Put acf50 in the rear tailgate. Rear archs etc. Get the egrs blanked off and mapped out asap. Never get it chipped. Only get the l322. Never the sport.check the rear brake line jlr recall has been done. Never spin up the turbos and key off. Or boot it cold. Ecpect electronic gremlins. But a fault clear on a diagnostic tool will usually sort. Keep it standard. No " upgrades" i had a vouge se up to 174k sold in jan 2020 on original turbos!! The car dealer is STILL using it as his personal drive at 217k. The plug under the probably come out.. once your ha e a l322. Regardless if whatever.
Nothing does do much so well. Loads. Fits 4 x 6ft + adults fine. Off road. Floods. Towing. Heavy building equip in boot. Easy loading. No drooping under load in rear. So comfortable. Budget 15k

Because if it were reliable and affordable it would be more commonplace on the road. But keep the ownership costs high, and it’ll remain a wealthy man’s vehicle. It’s just an ole ploy, like expensive restaurants: too rich for the average guy. So clientele are the wealthy.
