#42 Big changes! Interior walls are going up in our italian stone house!

  • We bought this stone house in Italy during the pandemic in 2020. The house was a ruin and we saved everything we could, unfortunately that meant only four stone and clay walls 😊 The back wall, against the terrain, was close to collapse; the roof beams were eaten and basically reduced to dust; the inside separation walls were easily taken down and the whole project turned into a heavy renovation/rebuild.
Follow our journey as we turn this old stone house into a beautiful home 😊.

Watching these en-masse, today. When #46 was new. Been trying not to scream, "Buy and impact driver." for several episodes, nothing beats them, but I'm a bit late. Lovely job, so nice to see it coming together so beautifully.

Every struggle is a learning experience. Tip. Always secure a frame plate to the wall first and then work away from that for the wall framing, easer to secure the wall frame to the wall plate with screws. The framing build looks very good and strong.. But you are moving along. Bravo.

Tip - put a bolt on before you cut the threaded rod. It will restore the thread after you cut it

That looks like difficult work. A suggestion. Use a steel threaded wall plug with the same size inner thread. The plugs are mortared using the same method. This way, you can place the frame with existing hole against the wall and simply push the threaded rod through and screw into the wall plug, counter fasten it with a nut.

I don't think it would have mattered which wall you put up first and having to spend all day to put both walls up, I understand. You are dealing with rock walls that were not plumb and straight to start with. Great job.

Hello, when you cut threaded rods, you have to grind the edge of your cut all around the screw thread. You take your threaded rod, you start your grinder in your left hand, you apply while rotating with your right hand your threaded rod at 18 degrees (you remove 1 mm all around the edge of the thread of your cup) It's easier to put the nut afterwards.
For your partitions you get bored. You position it, you drill the wood with a wood drill and you change for a concrete drill of the same diameter and you drill through the wood and you inject your product without moving your partition, you put the threaded rod with the washer and the nut. The partition is still in place. You wait for it to harden and you tighten. It's the washer and the nut that do the work.
If it can help you. Regards.
Cordialement.

Did you consider putting the wall in the final position, drill the hole through wood and into the stone at the same time, and then glue the rod into the wall, while the wooden frame is still in place? there are also anchor bolts, that you dont need to glue, you just hammer them through the wood into the wall and then just tighten the nut.
    Thanks for the video!

It's a great project what you do there - a pleasure to watch every episode! There's one thing I would improve at installing the walls: If you would left a little bit of space (around 3cm) between the wall and the last vertical stut of the wooden frame you can place the frame at the correct position, fix it with clamps (or somebody hold it) and drill larger holes into the frame stud where the fixing points should be. After that you can drill the holes for the threaded rods through the existing holes without removing the wall element, inject the bond and next the rods. During pushing the rod in you have to mount a large washer and a nut on it in the space between the wall and the stud. When the bond is hardend you can mount a second large washer with a nut on the other side. This process allows you a much faster installation, a very easy adjustment of the frames and has less problem/ aggrevation potential.
I hope somebody unterstands my horrible english... 🙈

Walls are looking nice, that lumber is so nice and straight, almost a shame to cover it. When you pound the all thread rod or anchor, put the nut at the end so your rod doesn't mushroom out or deform. I also use the grinder wheel at a 45 degree to take any burrs or you can but a nut on the cut line. The addition of the impact is a must, you will be able to use that all the time for other projects.
