Thank you for keeping these cars alive Mark! There are so few people who know how to repair them!

They are not complicated cars , but rather misunderstood. Unfortunately a large number have been poorly maintained in the past. But those days are hopefully over as people are starting to realise just how special they are !

I love all the kit you have knocking around your workshops, the odd spare engine or two!

Most of the Dino engines are customers but a lot of the shame is on me.
You see I have a bit of a habit.
      A Maserati engine habit !
Only thing more shameful is my FIAT fridge habit.
      I have many vices ……..
The worst is collecting vintage vices !

      Glad to be of service.
There will be more soon on our theory of the timing of the changes.

Fabulous edition Mark - thoroughly enjoyed this! Great cinematography from Ladislav too! As you asked, I have a question for you - your passion for and knowledge of the Fiat Dino is supreme and unrivalled in the UK I think it's fair to say - is this also the case that there is a passion for the cars, in Italy especially, but also other countries? Also, will you ever consider doing a video with the Fiat Dino historian? Keep up the great work!!! 🖖

The intention is to make a more academic film utilising the current research. We are in contact with the Pininfarina archive and my friend in Italy has the FIAT Dino archive. There is also another FIAT Dino enthusiast who is doing great work with this project. So we are very close to being able to forward our findings.
My part of the project is really about the hands on experience with the cars and the ability to film the details. The academic part is really about what cars should have what parts fitted and what colours and finishes are appropriate.
The end result will be an ability to state the correct specifications of any given vehicle from its chassis number and spares number. There is also a body number that we are researching.
These cars are getting more attention from collectors so it’s becoming more important that they are correct.
We might be able to do a collection video to explain our findings.

It never ceases to amaze me how many changes were made to these cars during their short production life. FIAT surely had longer term plans for these Dinos at the outset.
The things you highlight in part two are all there on my Dino (415). I bought it from Iain Tyrell who was very knowledgable about them back in the day when they were relatively unknown. Have you swapped notes with him?

Yes I do remember your Spider, a very nice example. I often forward the thought of just how expensive it would have been to develop and then produce the FIAT Dino . It’s not just a matter of counting the investment in the entire project and then dividing that cost into the number of units sold which would have been an enormous sum . But also the revenue lost in stopping the machinery and changing the tooling that was working flat out to produce other products like the FIAT 850 and 124 or for that matter fridges !
That manufacturing might all brought to bear on this exotic little car. Fully production ready to be constructed with a monocoque chassis. to the level of sophistication found in any large car company. Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini could almost be thought of as cottage industries by comparison.
I personally think it was all about ego, Gianni Angelli wanted to show just what his firm was capable of and what that manufacturing power could bring to Ferrari . Funny, mention Ian Terrell as the spider in the last two videos is the one from his video . He has called me in the past for FIAT Dino advice and my opinion, on a car, he was looking to purchase . This wasn’t your car as you already had yours . I hope you are enjoying the channel and watching the non Dino stuff ?

Yes, I do enjoy your channel especially the quips: “There all like that sir” and “Rust never sleeps” - do you think Neil Young’s got a Dino?

@@FiatDino1967 Most of his contemporaries had Corvettes so perhaps he went off the reservation and got something Italian. Because that line didn’t come from nowhere !
