    Hi Jeremy, I purchased your power box. I know little to nothing about doing electrical wiring. I wanted to do this as a learning experience. I must say watching your video made it possible. I put in 2 12v 30ah lithium amp batteries. My biggest problem was the lights,one doesn't work ,but the real problem was the wire is very fine and the insulation was to thick for me to get a good crimp.Thumbs up great box. I plan on using this for some camping, kayaking,and when I am able to get a Garmin use it for that.

    I just finished the Deluxe kit, with box, SAE connector, wiring kit, and the 3 amp lithium charger . I build lots of kits...modules for my synthesizer, radio kits, etc. and this was a real pleasure to put together. Following along with this video was just too easy and more than everything you need is included so I give this a 10 out of 10 ! I am using two
    Expert Power 12V 10Ah Lithium LiFePO4 Deep Cycle Rechargeable Batteries to run my QRP mobile ham radio rack. After searching many places for a diy build to power it I landed on Ice Hole Power and am totally happy with the results. If you are doing mobile HF comms, this is the ticket.

    Videos are awesome, as an electrician super easy for me to follow, maybe for some guys that don't see this stuff (wiring) everyday, you could put a drawing on screen momentarily as you do each switch, the animated ones you use are sweet. Sort of build a wiring animation as you go, with a finished diagram at the end.

    What would be a great accessory for when you don't need the glow hole would be to replace it with an LED bulb and some kind of telescopic frosted shade that could be pulled up to make a mini top of box lantern. This could light up around and above the box and pushed back down flush when not needed. You would have to design it...If telescopic frosted shade is too hard just make it threaded so when you need it take it out of the box screw it on over the hole...turn off unscrew it and throw it back in the box to store. You could even make a red, green, orange ,and white color option.

      I am a year late to this game. Did you use this for the Garmin? I just bought a Garmin Striker Plus 4. It has a 4-pin connector to the Garmin and an inline fuse leading to bare wires on the pig tail end. My Expert Power charger comes with an SAE to ring connectors and an SAE to alligator clips as choices to connect to a single Rebel battery. The flush mounted SAE looks like an attractive way to charge the battery externally to the box. I could also use the posts. Is there a way to rig an SAE or even a 4-pin end on the Garmin pig tail so that I can plug in the Garmin externally into a clean, flush-mounted spot on the box? I am looking anything other than a running the Garmin wire into a gaping hole in the box (I do have some rubber grommets). I think I would like this small box to be dedicated solely to the Garmin with the exception of a voltage meter with USB Type C.

    • @iceholepower8012
      @iceholepower8012  Před 2 lety +1

      Nice work. With those wires being so thin, when you crimp them, sometimes it will cut the wire. I am guessing you did not put a bit of solder on them to stiffen them up?

    • @michaellasley3092
      @michaellasley3092 Před 2 lety

      Correct. I sensed the issue as I assembled, but tried like heck to pull wires out and they were crimped tite.Going to do a long run test on all to see batt life of 2-18v ah amp batts and recharge time.Great product Jeremy.

    I'm building one as a solar powered battery box for Ham radio, but it will be similar in construction, using many of the same outlets and switches. I've watched a number of videos to prep for it, and I have to say this is the most educational for process and wire management. I will be using a Bioenno panel, battery and controller. I will also be using a RigRunner for fusing in between all the components and the battery. Overkill? Probably. But anything worth doing is worth overdoing.

    My only suggestion is to save money, use vice grips instead of buying the crimper which most people will only use to build a box or two. I have 5 different crimpers for various connectors and most of those are necessary to not waste or damage the connectors. Other crimpers do not work as advertised and they go back and I use a standard, do-all crimper.
    Just place the right-angle connector just at the tip of where the vice jaws end. You will see the crimp metal tube so you can just where to place the jaws. Before crimping, screw down the vice grip adjustment screw to where the jaws take a little pressure to close. Close the grips and you are done. No damage to the connector unless you do it wrong. I burned through 3-5 until I got it right. After that, get it right almost every time. Passes the pull test.

    I've got a build this week that I need to get done before we go camping the week after that. Need a battery for my trolling motor and will be using recycled 18650 batteries, 3s90p configuration, which should give me 200Ah / 2000+ Wh. Need something that will last a week while fishing running a 30lb Minn Kota without having to be recharged until I get home or can get some solar panels and a good solar charger. Being up here in Canada on the West Coast, I've bought all my stuff off Amazon but using parts from your builds as recommendations.

    Just watched your video. Spot on and the way you ran your wires are clean and tidy. So I have had my ammo box for almost over a year, but I am running a 60ah Amped battery, I've been charging the battery with the adapter that came with the battery. Will this kit fit my 60ah battery?

    I would definitely use to take some of my veteran friends out ice fishing with me and then install speakers to use for shore fishing in summer and charge my Deeper Chirp fish finder when needed

    2nd time I've watched this video and learned something both times, on one of your videos you were showing the proper way to fuse batteries and I've been trying to find the proper size fuse for the 30ah Amp Outdoors battery

      Hey Ernie, thanks for watching! I am glad you're getting some value out of the videos! When thinking about a fuse, we need to consider what we are running more so than the capacity of the battery. The boxes are all fused for 10 Amps.

      @@iceholepower8012 I'm running a GLS10/LVS32 and a126sv both with Garmin recommend 7,5 amp fuses, which I think is a little high. The amp draw of the 126sv is approximately 2.5 amp but Garmin wants a fuse 3 times larger. Is the fuse I need coming from battery going to be 15 amp? Thanks for any help you cab offer!

    Do you have a link to the stainless screws and nuts that you use on the SAE port, I am curious if the head sits down in the recessed area of each hole and how long they are. Are you using locking nylon nuts as well?

    Can the sae kit be used to plug in my Lowrance? I am using a sla battery and will be using alligator clips on the binding posts. I assume this will work.

    Just built my box, these instructions are spot on!! I would suggest having a flag crimper, I'm not sure how to actually crimp those without one. If there is a way, maybe post a how to?

      If a guy didn't have a flag crimper, I bet he could get by with squeezing it down with some vicegrips.

    Thanks for posting this (and all your other videos). I'm installing a Garmin Striker 4 Plus in my drift boat and have a 12 amp Rebel battery coming (thanks to your review). I'm an old AGM guy and was thinking I needed a voltmeter to keep track of my charge-but it dawned on me that perhaps that won't be of much use with a lithium iron phosphate since the voltage doesn't drop off so much... So I was curious to see you put a volt meter in your box. Is this just to catch the tail end slide of the battery charge? Thanks again.
